It's towards the top of Old Montreal so we had a nice walk to and from the restaurant. We were greeted by the host and sat down immediately. The restaurant inside was very pretty and had low lighting to make it look very intimate. I'd definitely consider Veranda a fine-dining Indian restaurant. We ordered the samosa tarts and malai chicken tikka from the appetizers and both were absolutely delicious! We also ordered mango lassi, butter chicken, and garlic naan (all automatic orders for us when we go to Indian restaurants) and none of them disappointed. However, we were a little disappointed that they didn't have a few menu items that we see back home or at other Indian restaurants like onion bhaji, pakora, biryani and tandoori chicken. The only complaint we had was the service wasn't that great. Our order was taken a few minutes after viewing the menu and the staff was very friendly but after we finished our appetizers, we felt neglected as other tables were served their food and we were waiting 25-30 minutes to get served our main dish. We had to let the server know that we were done our appetizers and ready for the main dish. I'm not sure if this is normal in Montreal or at Indian restaurants in Montreal? Other restaurants we were served our courses immediately one after the other, with maybe 5-10 minutes in between. It wasn't busy either for a Wednesday night where they only had 3-4 tables. Regardless, we would recommend Veranda to anyone craving Indian food who wants to eat in Old Montreal! The food is delicious!

I didn't expect much of it at all and had only wanted to fill my belly. Little did I know, but I had the BEST butter chicken ever!!!! I'm usually quite picky when it comes to butter chicken as I usually find most plates quite spicy/too sour/not creamy enough/or is seasoned with too much spice. The butter chicken here is simply amazing! It fits all my criteria- it offers a hint of spiciness to kick off my taste buds, it's creamy and it's rich in flavour. Most of all, it's affordable (for only $8!) and comes in a perfect ratio of rice, butter chicken and naan. It was so simple and so delicious. Definitely will return for the butter chicken and will try everything else on the menu!

I got the Shrimp Tandoori plate which came with a small salad and spiced rice on the side. Everything was cooked well and was packed with spices; I just wish the portion was bigger. I also ordered Vegetable Curry (If a restaurant can do that well, then you can bet that their more "exciting" dishes are delicious!) This restaurant nailed it! Just the right amount of salt, spice, creaminess, tang, and I also loved the addition of fava beans. I've never had them in a Vegetable Curry before! I'm looking forward to trying some of their meat curries and breads the next time I order (which is soon hopefully). Overall, I would highly* recommend this restaurant for affordable and super flavourful Indian food!

Our Order: (1) Traditional Masala Chai - perfect on a cold rainy day, excellent aromatic notes. (2) Grilled Cheese Paneer Tikka - the sandwich comes with a slaw inside and on the side, the slaw is dressed, so the entire grilled cheese was soggy. So soggy that it fell apart as soon as you lift it. Even the banana chips on top were soggy. Either order without the inside slaw, or get another dish. The pieces of Paneer Tikka that we could taste was okay. Not much flavor. (3) Rosa's French Toast - The spiced panko breadcrumb french toast had me very intrigued! The texture was great with the crisp and softness of the french toast, but there was absolutely no flavor in the breadcrumbs which was a let down. Cocktail Menu - HUGE! so many unique South Asian inspired cocktails that we didn't know how to pick. Overall, we were disappointed since the modern fusion flavor didn't match the food.

They have quite a bit of variety on the menu and it was difficult to choose but I finally decided on the sampler platter and my mom ordered a dish with black chickpeas. The black chickpeas are typically spicy but they toned it down for her and it was perfect. My sampler had six small dishes and a dessert with rice in the middle. Every dish was better than the last and the dessert was perfect, not too heavy. The service was very attentive, friendly. The restaurant seems very clean and had a cozy and comfortable ambience. I'm no longer in Montreal, I will return here when I am back and I have already told my Montreal friends they must try this place.

It is a small menu, but everything looked very tasty. Between 4 of us, we odered a thali, a Lasooni Dhaniya Tofu, Vegan Butter Chicken and Vegan Tikka Masala, along with mango lassis. The waiter let us know that since it was close to closing, they would only make us tofu, not the chicken substitute. Disapponting, but we understood. The lassis came out and they were by far the best mango lassis I had ever had. So favourfu ad vibrant! The dishes arrived and all the sauces were divine! We all sampled each other's and were very happy. The tofu, however, was underwhelming. They did nothing to it, just added it to the lovely sauce. It wasn't seasoned or marinated, it was very gelatinous, which wasn't appetizing (especially for non-vegans, which two of us are, who are not used to that, but happy to try it). The place is small and charming, and the food came out quickly, and fresh. Minus points because the bathroom was actually quite dirty and needs a realy good scrub and a coat of paint.

The lunch buffet had both vegetarian and non veg offerings. I took a picture of everything but the basmati rice which was good. The standout items would be the mulligatawny soup, the butter chicken curry, the tandoori chicken which was super tender and well spiced and the lamb curry which was perfectly cooked. For dessert they had three choices and I tried them all. Gulab jamon was nicely spiced and not too sweet with a firm crumb. And the rice pudding was standout delicious with large green cardamom pods visibly floating in the pudding. There was a melange of other spices too. It was very nice. I want to mention there were layered spices in all the food which is the mark of a good chef. The price was very reasonable at $30 cad. With tax it was $5 more. Perfect for a super fresh and delicious lunch. I could not eat all the offerings but what I had was all good. I did not like the samosas. Too much potato. And I would have liked more peas and spices. The fruit in the fresh fruit cocktail was fine and chilled in an ice bath.
