It's towards the top of Old Montreal so we had a nice walk to and from the restaurant. We were greeted by the host and sat down immediately. The restaurant inside was very pretty and had low lighting to make it look very intimate. I'd definitely consider Veranda a fine-dining Indian restaurant. We ordered the samosa tarts and malai chicken tikka from the appetizers and both were absolutely delicious! We also ordered mango lassi, butter chicken, and garlic naan (all automatic orders for us when we go to Indian restaurants) and none of them disappointed. However, we were a little disappointed that they didn't have a few menu items that we see back home or at other Indian restaurants like onion bhaji, pakora, biryani and tandoori chicken. The only complaint we had was the service wasn't that great. Our order was taken a few minutes after viewing the menu and the staff was very friendly but after we finished our appetizers, we felt neglected as other tables were served their food and we were waiting 25-30 minutes to get served our main dish. We had to let the server know that we were done our appetizers and ready for the main dish. I'm not sure if this is normal in Montreal or at Indian restaurants in Montreal? Other restaurants we were served our courses immediately one after the other, with maybe 5-10 minutes in between. It wasn't busy either for a Wednesday night where they only had 3-4 tables. Regardless, we would recommend Veranda to anyone craving Indian food who wants to eat in Old Montreal! The food is delicious!

Another BYOB Indian restaurant but this time in a more " elegant " dining setting. More expensive…read morethen all the other Indian restaurants that I go to (perhaps rent is ridiculously expensive in St Lambert) I personally don't know if I like it or not. We chose vegetarian table d'hôte for two and to be honest it was bad. It was just not that good either. Ok. Ok. This is just MY opinion (I grew up and work in the restaurant business). So here's my problem. All three main dishes seems to have the same base sauce that has been tweaked with by the addition of different spices for each of them. The texture of the sauce (that's what gave it up) is exactly the same as those bottles Indian sauces that you buy at the grocery store. Like it has been thicken with some sort of commercial emulsifier. It felt like they had tubs of it in the back. Something wasn't right. Another thing is that it wasn't spicy at all! We had to ask for hot sauce. Probable because the place is in St Lambert and they try to cater to the clients taste buds. Americanized menu?? I think so. Another thing is that I could taste the fake powdered chicken bouillon in the food. Everything seemed to be on the sweet side as well. Like I said, not bad but not good at all. Not worth the price. I guess it's like the Chez Lien but Indian version. The service was shall I say...weird!?! They were polite but I felt like I was being served by robots. One of our waiter, because we had the whole wait staff (5) waiting on our table, only pointed things. No one word came out of his mouth. One last thing. WHERE IS THE STAINLESS PEOPLE!!!

Ordered Dahl soup, chicken tikka masala, Chana masala, Tardka Dahl, 1 basmati rice (none comes with your meal, rather odd) and 1 garlic naan bread. C$79.33 I can't say we have ever been to an Indian restaurant where you have to order and pay for the rice at all. The complimentary cracker, papadum is quite salty on its own. I am not loving the onion salsa or the yogurt chia dip so much. Their complimentary items are not for me. 1 order of Naan is literally 1 piece of naan for the two of us. Best to assume everything is a la carte. The basmati rice is flavored and topped with crispy onions and peas. It's ok. I do feel for the 3 dishes we ordered, at least one rice should have come with it as an accompaniment. The garlic naan is good, chewy and warm. The lentil soup isn't so good, it's quite runny, as water and doesn't have much flavor to me. The Tardka Dahl is good. The Chana masala is good as well. The chicken tikka masala is the best part of the meal. Rich and super flavorful profile, sauce is fantastic with the bread or the rice. Huge chunks of chicken and not a lot in the dish. I could easily have eaten this on my own. Service was good.
