The food was delicious! We tried a fish (mirchi masalla) and the meat was actually fluffy and light and scrumptious. The only thing was we didn't realize how spicy it was, to the point that I was hyperventilating a few times, but it was so good that we couldn't stop eating it anyways. We also got a lamb peshawari. It had a red sauce, wasn't spicy and was slightly sweet. It had nice cheese chunks too and almonds. Just delicious. Excellent food, lots of sweating and great naan bread too!

It's towards the top of Old Montreal so we had a nice walk to and from the restaurant. We were greeted by the host and sat down immediately. The restaurant inside was very pretty and had low lighting to make it look very intimate. I'd definitely consider Veranda a fine-dining Indian restaurant. We ordered the samosa tarts and malai chicken tikka from the appetizers and both were absolutely delicious! We also ordered mango lassi, butter chicken, and garlic naan (all automatic orders for us when we go to Indian restaurants) and none of them disappointed. However, we were a little disappointed that they didn't have a few menu items that we see back home or at other Indian restaurants like onion bhaji, pakora, biryani and tandoori chicken. The only complaint we had was the service wasn't that great. Our order was taken a few minutes after viewing the menu and the staff was very friendly but after we finished our appetizers, we felt neglected as other tables were served their food and we were waiting 25-30 minutes to get served our main dish. We had to let the server know that we were done our appetizers and ready for the main dish. I'm not sure if this is normal in Montreal or at Indian restaurants in Montreal? Other restaurants we were served our courses immediately one after the other, with maybe 5-10 minutes in between. It wasn't busy either for a Wednesday night where they only had 3-4 tables. Regardless, we would recommend Veranda to anyone craving Indian food who wants to eat in Old Montreal! The food is delicious!

I didn't expect much of it at all and had only wanted to fill my belly. Little did I know, but I had the BEST butter chicken ever!!!! I'm usually quite picky when it comes to butter chicken as I usually find most plates quite spicy/too sour/not creamy enough/or is seasoned with too much spice. The butter chicken here is simply amazing! It fits all my criteria- it offers a hint of spiciness to kick off my taste buds, it's creamy and it's rich in flavour. Most of all, it's affordable (for only $8!) and comes in a perfect ratio of rice, butter chicken and naan. It was so simple and so delicious. Definitely will return for the butter chicken and will try everything else on the menu!

The lunch buffet had both vegetarian and non veg offerings. I took a picture of everything but the basmati rice which was good. The standout items would be the mulligatawny soup, the butter chicken curry, the tandoori chicken which was super tender and well spiced and the lamb curry which was perfectly cooked. For dessert they had three choices and I tried them all. Gulab jamon was nicely spiced and not too sweet with a firm crumb. And the rice pudding was standout delicious with large green cardamom pods visibly floating in the pudding. There was a melange of other spices too. It was very nice. I want to mention there were layered spices in all the food which is the mark of a good chef. The price was very reasonable at $30 cad. With tax it was $5 more. Perfect for a super fresh and delicious lunch. I could not eat all the offerings but what I had was all good. I did not like the samosas. Too much potato. And I would have liked more peas and spices. The fruit in the fresh fruit cocktail was fine and chilled in an ice bath.

Since my stepsister is vegetarian, we all ordered a variety of vegetarian appetizers and entrées to share, as well as a few cocktails and glass of wine. I thought the garlic tandoori naan pretty good, but I REALLY enjoyed the yellow dahl tarka I ordered, as well as the samosas, and all the chutneys and sauces. The servings sizes are generous but not too much. We also had the paneer masala which was great. No complaints and I can't wait to return!
