This experience was just perfect! The drinks were delicious, the food seasonal and tasty, the interior design hip and unique, and at a cool tourist spot!

Restaurant 1796 is a beautifully decorated spot, perfect for a romantic dinner date or an upscale family meal. Set on the historic grounds of the Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville, famous for its haunted lore, this restaurant delivers first-class service in a unique and elegant setting. The kitchen features a wood-fired hearth, and the open flame cooking is on full display from the dining room, adding a rustic yet refined ambiance. The seasonal menu is built around fresh, local ingredients used only at their peak ripeness, ensuring rich flavors in every dish. Starters like the charred Caesar salad, cornbread, and especially the rabbit liver (when available) are standout choices. For entrées, they excel with both steaks and seafood, cooked expertly over the flame. Also, don't forget about their decadent bread pudding for dessert! It's a 30-40 minute drive from Baton Rouge, but absolutely worth the trip for a special occasion or just an exceptional meal in a beautiful setting. Ghost sightings aren't guaranteed--but incredible food certainly is.

Just 40 minutes north of Baton Rouge, located at the historic Myrtles Plantation, Restaurant 1796 is a delicious gem that adds to the culinary jewels in our area. I first made it here for a rehearsal dinner - they did an amazing job with both food and service, they were easy for the family to work with, and it was the perfect evening for all. Most recently, we celebrated a birthday with a large crowd. We were tucked in a back room that was cozy with just a few other tables. Joe stole the show with his amazing suggestions, impeccable service, and infectious smile. I don't think anyone could have done a better job with our group. First, the cocktails were creative and very tasty. I had both a bloody mary and mango salsarita. My friends enjoyed bottomless mimosas (which Joe legit did not let the bottom be seen), old fashioned, and a few mocktails. No one was disappointed. We ordered just about all the apps from boutique oysters to hush puppies, peppers (from the gardens on site), deviled eggs, St Bruno bread, and some other delicious items. We also ordered the famous brussels sprouts and cauliflower dishes, which were removed for a slight period of time from the menu, but they have made a triumphant return. For my main course, I ordered the redfish tacos - a more seasonal dish with the freshest fish and delicious slaw topping. Others enjoyed steak, truffle mac, the strawberry french toast, and other dishes. I don't think anyone was disappointed. I can truly say, Restaurant 1796 went above and beyond to make our meal a truly memorable experience. I can't say enough great things about the food, the location, and all the staff members who we encountered, especially Joe, who put up with our someone hectic (but loveable) group!

Restaurant 1796, located at 7747 US-61, St. Francisville, LA 70775, featured Southern cuisine during the last Restaurant Week. Seeking a romantic ambiance and lovingly prepared food for a date night? Restaurant 1796, with its oak wood-fired dishes and enticing aromas, is an excellent choice. I highly recommend a return visit to explore the diverse menu offerings. (Wasn't part of the restaurant menu item, but i just had to order it!) Andouille Gnocchi sweet potato gnocchi, ewing farms goat cheese, pomegrante seeds & pepitas. (Highly recommend) Course 1: Fried Venison Backstrap with jalapeño spinach and artichoke dip. Course 2: Hearth-Blackened Redfish with blackened crab gravy, grit cakes, and asparagus. (Highly Recommended) Oyster Carbonara: Fried oysters, bacon, vermicelli, shallot, and cream sauce. Course 3: Bread Pudding with white chocolate sauce and raspberry sorbet. Ambiance was great as well as the food! We had the focaccia and the Brie dip as appetizers which were a 10/10. The oyster carbonara was perfection! The oysters were light and crispy and the carbonara was light and didn't feel greasy and heavy.

What a beautiful restaurant and bar! We enjoyed our drinks at the bar before our tour very much. The pimento cheese with the focaccia bread was awesome. Will be back! Service was great, friendly, and professional

Had a nice dinner at 1796 after our tour at Myrtle's Plantation. Rather than getting big plates, we opted for doing small plates to taste the variety of foods which in some cases were nicely unique. I started out with a grilled caesar salad that came with crispy cornbread crumbs and pepperoncini peppers. While the cornbread crumbs worked well, the acid of the peppers with the dressing was a bit too much and overpowered the nice balance of the tangy dressing with bread crumb combo. 4 stars Next we ordered the fried rabbit livers. I have had a lot of liver in my day but never a rabbit liver. This was fantastic! Lightly breaded you really had nice big bite sized pieces of liver server on top of mustard greens with a pepper jelly sauce. This was great. Super tender, no heavy liver flavor but a nice mild flavor. 5 stars The fire roasted Brussels sprouts with Gochujang aoli and picked red onions were good but over salted. A few pieces were way too salty but take away the salt and the sprouts were delicious. Leaving the salt out of my evaluation this is a solid 4 stars. The final dish was the the Hearth Ribs with white bama bbq sauce. The ribs were very tender and sauced perfectly (not too heavy) and almost fell off the bone but not quite. 5 ribs for a side was a nice size portion. 4 stars Finally for dessert I had the Peanut Butter Mousse with Strawberry Compote and Bacon. The Peanut Butter and Jelly concept is sort of the rage in many dishes now but in this case, it didn't work for me. The bacon and strawberry did not mix well with whip cream and peanut butter. I would of left out the strawberry and added just smokey bacon or leave out both. The mousse alone could stand on it's own very well so I think adding to it actually detracts from making this dish really shine for me but I am sure others may love it. 4 stars Service was very good and I would definitely recommend going here for a menu that is unique and different with numerous choices for both small and large plates. 4 stars

Amazing experience. Let me first say, I don't write reviews usually unless I was very impressed. It was my wife and I's wedding anniversary and we did lunch and went on the tour after. When we were seated there was a hand written card from the restaurant wishing us a happy anniversary and we got complimentary champagne and desert (which was delicious). The restaurant itself is beautiful and really elegant. You can tell there was a lot of thought put into it. It was lunch, so my wife and I split a few small plates (Brie dip and tuna dip) and had salads. Everything was delightful. We will definitely come back and for a dinner. And service was top notch!

Leaving another review because I didn't know they changed the menu for the seasons. This was from the spring menu. First off, the island in the sun cocktail was what dreams are made of! It's a MUST try! Then we got fried rabbit liver, so yummy. Has a mild liver taste but so tender. I also love their take on a caesar salad but I like light breadcrumbs. For entrees we had the ribeye and redfish. They cook fish to perfection, it's always so juicy and flavorful. For dessert we had the marshmellow strawberry fluff. I wanted to try the carrot cake but they didn't have it that night. Always great drinks, food and service!

The ambiance of this restaurant is its highlight. The restaurant is cozy and homey. The outside is beautiful and has great grounds you can walk off your meal on. I went ahead and mostly ordered small plates which included the corn bread and rabbit livers. The livers were okay but nothing special. The slaw was its highlight. The cornbread is cooked on the hearth (according to the menu) but as a result feels very dry. The highlight is the half salad which is a perfect portion of veggies.

I looked around and saw that all of the tables inside were reserved and we were lucky enough to be seated on the patio, where there were also a good number of tables reserved. It wasn't too bad being outside because they had some space heaters, and the table we were at had a nice view of the sunset. There was also live music, which to us was a huge plus. Our server was Chloe, and she was great! Attentive enough that we never had to wait for anything, and very pleasant. We started with a mule for me and an espresso martini for my friend. She says it's one of the best, if not the best, espresso martini she has had in Baton Rouge. My mule was the just strong enough to hit the spot. As far as our food goes, we loved how fresh the bruschetta tasted and how the meatballs practically melted in your mouth. My friend preferred the Lil Peppa because she liked their red sauce a lot and I preferred the salsiccia con potate (mozzarella, Italian sausage, roasted potatoes and rosemary with a white sauce) because I found the flavor combinations interesting. I favored the tiramisu, while she favored the cannoli. We were both in agreement that we would come back and get all of these again, so they were all winners to us.

Both good choices. Overall, the wine pairing was okay. I like the appetizer pairing of a nice light, white bubbly prosecco. The second was a classic red wine to pair with a steak. The last wine is where I was not impressed. It was a dessert wine that had a smell similar to a distilled whiskey. I took a sip and decided I rather another glass of prosecco. Shout out to the server who was accommodating and swapped out that glass for what I requested. He didn't have to, but he did! The food was mouth watering delicious. We started off with the sauteed shrimp and the piquillo peppers. THANK GOD the piquillo peppers are a Solera regular. I will be getting them again. The shrimp were just okay, nothing out of this world. Second course was the filet with polenta. It was absolutely delicious and packed with flavors that complimented each other well. Final course we had the rum bread pudding and the manchego cheesecake. The manchego cheese is definitely a rich and an acquiring flavor. Without the blueberry sauce, you would think its just a slab of cheese. The rum bread pudding was spectacular. I have never loved a rum sauce with my bread pudding, but the Solera one kept me wanting more. Overall and enjoyable experience, with a couple minor foods that lack the razzle dazzle of a 5 star review.
