Great food, great ambience, great decor, incredibly rude staff. Considering this is an American themed restaurant influenced by American culture and named after an American actor, you would think they would have a little more acceptance of Americans. Nope. The wait staff just looked annoyed by our sheer presence. What sealed its fate was when we simply questioned a difference in what we ordered versus what was on the menu and the waitress responded with "Well, you should have asked." As the wait staff and expert of the menu and food served, I think instead of me asking, she should have asked if I preferred or knew that all juices and lemonades were served with sparkling water, not still water. Especially since that wasn't specified anywhere on the menu nor included under the drink's description or ingredients. Wasn't aware I was supposed to know, or even ask, if my lemonade would include sparkling water. I travel all over the world and have even lived in several countries, and no other place that I've been to has ever used sparkling water for juice or lemonade. If this were some authentic Czech restaurant serving Czech cuisine, I would consider and accept the possibly of sparkling lemonade being the norm. But if you're going to name your establishment James Dean and have menu items called "Texas Burger" and "Burrito" I don't appreciate the attitude or lecture as if ALL lemonades are made with sparkly water and I'm the American idiot who should have specified that I wanted it otherwise...She offered to make me a new lemonade with regular water but made it clear that the untouched bubbly lemonade would still have to be paid for. Too bad, and ironic, that it just took one waitress in an American themed restaurant who had very little tolerance with Americans or else I would have gladly given this place 5 stars. read more

Hosts were nice. We were greeted and seated quickly. Food was served rather quickly as well. It seems hard to find American breakfast places in Germany but this was a pleasant surprise. This place was charming inside. It was decorated like a 1950s American Restaurant. The Marylin Cocktail was my and my friend's favorite drink. We also tried the Moscow mules, which were decent but not essential. The food was excellent. I got the Route Salad, and it went beyond my standards. The goat cheese was amazing, and it was delicious. The place was cute and lots of imagery and art of James Dean and Marilyn Monroe. The concept is cool, but has some of the most uncomfortably low and reclined seats I have ever experienced at a restaurant. Servers were friendly enough, but the service was very slow and the food was mediocre. Definitely better lunch spots in Prague. read more

My friend and I heard great things about this diner but as soon as we walked at 8pm in we were immediately greeted with a server who turned us away, claiming they were completely booked for the night (they are open from 8am-6am), and there were open seats around the restaurant and bar too. We then asked if we could make a reservation and were told "no", with no further options. We then asked if we could make a reservation for the next night and were met with another "no", and were sent away with the only option being to make a reservation the following sunday. I normally never leave yelps let alone bad reviews but this was an upsetting experience as we were not even offered another option. read more

This is one of the worst experiences I have had in a while , and not exaggerating at all. I would describe the staff as poorly trained, lifeless, anti-customer, and lazy - but this would be an overly positive description. They are more aptly described as very unhappy people who actively do their best to irritate and disappoint customers. Synonyms for the food would be boring, nondescript, forgettable. The only positive to this place is you can get a traditional American breakfast if you miss that, but there are other places in Prague to get that. Snd do many great restaurants in general, why go here? I travel and dine out alot. To sum things up: If you make one wise decision in your life it will be to never go to this restaurant. read more

Best American Style breakfast in the Czech Republic for 300CZK you can have a very nice breakfast that reminds me of roadside dinners I frequent when visiting the United States. A club is in the basement and seems popular but that is not really my style. read more

Okay, so this place is a bit expensive but that's what you would expect from the place right in the middle of everything. This restaurant is serves you with real American spirit and the food there is great. I enjoyed the fact that waitresses had a classic American diner uniforms and they also change depending on the time of the day. My conclusion is if you want to have a good time with great atmosphere and you don't mind spending a bit more coin then this place is just right for you. read more

I was here with a few of my friends on a Wednesday night. This place is located in a touristy area of bars/clubs on the street. The whole restaurant is set up as 50's diner with Marilyn monroe pictures, vending machines and staff dressed in 50's. We wanted to sit at one the empty tables but the waitress said "everything" is reserved. So we were asked to sit at the bar and were greeted by the bartender who made us pretty delicious drinks. I got an Old Fashioned and my friends got Cosmopolitans. Our drinks were pretty well made. I was a bit surprised as I was not expecting that from this place. I didn't get to try their food but it seem to look pretty good. We got 3 shots, 3 drinks all for 580CZK. It seems like they have a club downstairs which opens at 9pm. Next time I'm in the area I might give it a shot. =D read more

I'll start by saying this I had the time of my life here. The breakfast was amazing and I will definitely be taking another trip back to Prague just to go to the James Dean Diner. The waiters where nice the food was hot the drinks where cold and the flavor and aroma of a true breakfast which you can't find in Germany was definitely in the air and super delicious! James Dean Diner is in a perfect location as well right down the street from the clock and Prague most expensive shopping street. Definitely a must go if you are in Prague! read more

This place is horrible. The food was alright... but over priced. They charge for everything including water and take away boxes. I brought a water bottle with me but I was not allowed to drink it. Folks.................you are in Prague. My cousin picked this place because it looked interesting and we were tired from walking and so we had lunch here. It would not have been my first choice and I'd never go back. THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER GREAT RESTAURANTS NEARBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And food in Prague is so cheap. We came here on my birthday after an evening out. This place had a lot of room and we were a group on a friday night and in the area so we decided to go here. The staff is dressed a bit silly in my opinion and have tons of makeup on, so off the bat I can't say I was very drawn to going inside, but alas I did. They had a nice selection of alcohol, wine, beer, full bar and mixed drinks, and a menu of mostly american type fare. Food looked alright,I didn't try it since we had just eaten. I had one of their specialty drinks which was basically juice and costed upwards of 200 crowns. On a friday night later on in the evening this place does get crowded and good luck finding your server to pay, or order another drink. Or move for that matter. Overall I just didn't find this place so awesome at all. Weak drinks that were expensive, fake staff and the ambiance was alright but not enough to make me want to ever come back. read more

This is a funny place! I loved it. The styling of this place is great! You get to sit in booths, black and white tilefloors, red leather benches, all sorts of 50s music (and sometimes they sneak in some other (newer) oldies, but that's ok.) The food's great, a bit on the expensive side, but I guess you pay for the experience. LOVED the burgers, the milkshake was a bit to milky (not much icecream) and we had so much fun trying all sorts of cocktails here... I think. ;) In the basement there's a club, a typical club that you see in Prague's city centre. But that's not really my kind of past-time so I just had a look around and went back up. Looked nice. I went here during the week for a late lunch. The place was clean, they have a non-smoking section, the staff was friendly, and I found the roast need sandwhich to be much better than expected. Cute atmosphere so try it but at night it gets busy so the experience may differ. A lot of locals come here too so it's a good place to mingle and make friends. read more

Nice decor but....high prices and HORRIBLE service, even by Czech standards - we had a large group and had to go track down a waitress for further orders, dishes brought were wrong and, weirdest of all, we were told that they have a rule of "no hats on men after 19h" (we had a friend who always wears a hat). That is the oddest rule I have ever heard. This place is confused - is it a diner, a restaurant, or a cocktail bar? Well, it is none of these things. UPDATE: Tried it again and they were even worse than before. Honestly, I do not know where this weird attitude comes form in Prague servers. Our waitress was a cute young girl that was extremely rude and must have been having a bad day because it felt like she was taking it out on us. Upside, the decor is interesting with lots of James Dean and Marilyn Monroe pics. The food was very tasty and the portions are quite large. For Prague, it's expensive as they seem to be targeting tourists. They let us know at check out, verbally saying that the tip is not included. This is the only place we did not tip our wait staff in our 2 week euro trip. Like many other have said service was pretty average. I think if more time was spent on hiring skilled worked rather than pretty young girls things might turn around with the service. The food was ok, but nothing super amazing. My favorite part of our dining experience was the cool decor and classic hits playing while we ate. Several recommandations from different friends, so we had to check. We arrived quite early on a Saturday evening (around 6pm) without reservation, it was all full for the night but a server (not the nicest guy but let's pretend he was a bit stressed) still managed to find us a table. What a wonderfully consistently themed restaurant! From the servers dressed in fifties outfits to the jukebox and old-school ketchup bottles. The music of course was the best - from Elvis to Armstrong and back. The food we had was really delicious as well, they made the burgers perfectly juicy. The servers, while pretty, were a bit unfriendly - but that is something we generally (though not always) noticed in Prague, be that in shops or restaurants like this one. read more

Came here based on a friends recommendation for late night drinks. The place is cute with a 50s theme. The restaurants turns into the bar/club scene at night and came for late night drinks. The bartender was well attentive to its patrons. Service was wonderful! Had a malibu bay breeze and my hubs a gin and tonic with Hendrix. Pricing was reasonably at 250 Kc before tip of 50 Kc or $11 us with $2 tip. Place is open till 4am and one of the few that's still open during the week. Definitely worth checking out. read more

We wanted simple sandwiches to mix it up from the Czech food we'd been eating. We were quite disappointed. We're used to non-smoking restaurants in the US, so maybe this was more of a cultural thing that we should be mindful of. Even though we were seated in the non-smoking section, it was really stinky. Our servers were nice and attentive. But the food was just average. The portions were huge, but the prices weren't all that low. I wouldn't recommend it. read more

The perfect American diner, in Prague. James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, and oldies blasting through the speakers, it was super cute! I had the turkey burger, can't really go wrong with those, and it was good. My boyfriend had the chili burger and enjoyed it. The onion rings are delicious! We followed up our meal with shakes, banana and white chocolate, they were yummy! The only bad part was the smell of smoke. Service was pretty piss poor, and the drink ran pretty expensive because it's a touristy bar in a touristy part of town. I guess they have food too, but no one ordered any. We came here for breakfast 2 days in a row. As Americans we wanted a hot American breakfast after being in Europe almost a week. It is a old-fashioned 1950's-60s-themed American diner that was very well done with great design and decoration. They obviously spent a lot of money in the design and materials. It looked pretty new in mid-2014. We were seated in a booth that was so large you must sit forward to eat without your back resting on the cushioned rest. Their menu is on their website. In the morning only breakfast is available to order on the menu. The servers were very attractive petite young ladies with 1960's mini-skirt uniforms. 3 of us ordered the bottomless American coffee and one ordered the iced-coffee. Our coffee was just above lukewarm as it was poured and waited on the counter while the iced-coffee dessert concoction (ice cream & whipped cream) was made. We ordered and 2 of us had omelettes and one had the meusli granola with maple syrup and almonds, one of us had an American breakfast with sausage. The sausage was different that what we were used to. The omelettes were really great made from high-end restuarant quality omelettes with all fresh ingredients. Even the onions were carmelized. Later that day we walked by the James Dean at around 9PM and one of the same waitresses was still working. Long hours they put in. The 2nd day it was later morning and there were more customers and just the 2 servers and everything took longer for service. We all enjoyed the food and would recommend it for American tourists for the food and other tourists who like a real 1950's American nostalgia feel. All the details seemed very accurate even the children's high chairs. The bathrooms were also designed with 1960's Warhol pop style airbrushed custom artwork and custom lip-shaped urinals in the men's room.
