Mostly quiet area. In a bigger rig turn at first left or you miss parking. Very nice attendant. Semi will not fit well.

Oak Mountain State Park - Flowering, parasitic ghost plants

Oak Mountain State Park

I visited Oak Mountain State Park as part of the Mammoth March Hike, fully aware it was going to be…read morea major undertaking--but it still managed to shock me. The steep climbs up and down the mountain were incredibly challenging. At one point, I even slipped and slid down part of the trail but thankfully managed to do so gracefully without hurting myself. Being from Florida, I was definitely not accustomed to the elevation gain I was about to face. There were plenty of moments throughout the hike where I questioned why I signed up for this challenge, but pushing through and ultimately finishing made it all worth it. Having the bragging rights to say I conquered this terrain feels incredibly rewarding. That day, I didn't notice much floral life, and most of the critters seemed to be hiding--likely due to the large number of people participating in the hike. That said, I was still lucky enough to spot a rattlesnake and a black racer, which made the experience even more memorable. There were a few noteworthy areas worth stopping for, including an open area near a dam‑like structure and several peaceful river and creek spots along the route. While the park is absolutely massive and I know there was so much left unexplored, the 23 miles I trekked over 9 hours was more than enough for one day. If I find myself back in the area, I might just dare to return and explore some of the parts of the park I didn't get to see. Truly a beautiful park and an incredible asset for those who live nearby and get to enjoy it regularly.

I absolutely love going out to Oak Mountain. I have been several times with my sister and on my…read moreown. There's plenty to keep you busy no matter your interest or the season. I personally love going for a hike and bringing my pup along. Plus, there's so many great spots to stop and enjoy a picnic My husband and I plan to come and visit the golf course soon. As well as pack our bows to practice at the archery course.

Disgusting place. Blood on the sheets when we arrived. Refused to change them. Refused refund.read more

Our stay at the Ole' English Inn was eventful. After…read morepaying for our room, I witnessed the manager on the phone arguing with someone inquiring about the price. He use all the 4 letter words except, 'golf'. Although one of his words had a HOLE in it. Upon seeing the room, I felt ashamed to have my wife there. She thought that we could make it work. We took the sheets off one bed so we cover the stained chairs to have someplace to set. We made short of it and went to sleep. The bed had no skirt, old see through sheets and cigarette burns in the blankets. Thankfully we had our own pillows. The floor was???, well we kept our shoes on. During the night, we woke to police or a bounty hunter capturing one of the 'extended stay' guests of the Inn. No shots were fired. We then held each other close until sunrize. The residents of this Motel are not the 'Let's Make America Great Again' working middle class kind. They are more of the self medicating with acohol and controlled substance type. And we suspect that there was some self employment involving sex and drugs. Just as the Vampires were crawling back into their crypts, we were eager to get going. I showered first, during which I as saw something slither past a hole in the bathroom wall. I stuffed a towel (rag) in it. A said nothing to the misses about it. It was probly as afraid of us as we were of it. She got shower without being bitten. We dressed and bailed. A couple hours later we got a nap at a rest stop to make for the fraught night at the Ole' English Inn. You know how years later in life, old memories become sweet, charming, laughable, romantic memories? Well we will remember this Motel. If you are visiting the Ole' English Inn, don't pull the towel out of the hole in the bathroom wall.
