I like the different themes throughout this home (1350 Panache) and the professional oven. I also really like the half bath on the main floor, I think the decor is very pretty. Sadly, for me it stops there. You can tell that this was a really nice property at one time, but now it's dated in comparison to a lot of the properties in OBX - namely the ones surrounding it on the same street. This house is not up to par with other houses we've rented on past trips to ONX. It is extremely neglected and poorly maintained. The photos are old and are deceiving in relation to how the home looks today. The whole house needs a power wash and lots of fresh paint outside, which you would think the owner would do before renting for the season. The outside kitchen cabinets are full of bugs - spider eggs, flies and other insects - both dead and alive. You could not use that area if you wanted to. The front porch is covered in spider webs, spider eggs, dead bugs, live bugs - it's horrendous. There were also a ton of bugs inside! They looked like gnats and were everywhere.. the ceilings, window panes, both upstairs and downstairs. It seems like this house would do good to have a bug treatment because it was close to unbearable. When you looked up at the ceiling at night, it was covered with these bugs. If this is a result of being near the marsh and sound, this should be noted in the listing. Inside, dirty floors, dirty walls and dirty furniture are the norms. A lot of the furniture could tend to be replaced just for the simple fact that it's dated and worn; the hardwoods could use either a good wax or a really good cleaning and the carpets need shampooing. The carpet in the theatre room is full of bleach stains. The upholstery is visibly in need of shampoo. Several bathrooms smelled like urine. The kitchen has a refrigerator that is barely appropriate for a family of 4, and definitely not large enough to accommodate a vacation home for 16. It's VERY small. The house is dusty! In the week we were here you would not believe the amount of dust that accumulated on my laptop sitting on the dresser. I noticed it on other things too and you could literally see it floating through the air. I'd be willing to bet that the filters haven't been changed in a long long time judging by the other maintenance issues. The double bunk beds look like they need to be trashed, the air hockey table doesn't work, the ice machine is broken, the espresso machine is broken, there are dust webs and cob webs everywhere, water stains on the ceiling and patio, plus the patio furniture is dirty, rusted toilet paper stands in bathrooms, there are slow drains in bathroom sinks, blown lightbulbs and the elevator is in need of repair or updating. I received a call to inform me that the elevator would be unavailable less than a week before arriving. I knew then that this vacation was not off to the best start. Theresa at the rental agency stated they are waiting for a part to bring the elevator up to standard following the law that was passed in late 2022. However, other rental agencies in the area still permit use of their elevator but post a warning about children using it unattended. Something about the way it's being handled by Resort Realty seems shady. We thought the home was cheaper in price because of the location on the sound side of OBX versus the ocean, when in reality it's because of the condition the house is in. When we arrived we found that the theater room had not been cleaned. Thankfully one call to the office got that squared away. Also, the faucet in the kitchen was loose at the base and wiggled each time the faucet was turned on and off. I did inform the rental company of this and they sent someone out to fix it pretty quickly. I'd say the office was responsive when I called about the carpet, faucet, as well as a hot water issue and hot tub issue. However, due to the numerous other issues and unsightly appearance of this home, this was a very disappointing arrival and it was not even close to the standard of prior stays we've had in this beautiful town. As a matter of fact, on our previous vacations to OBX we have never had to call the rental company for incident, nor have we had issues with the homes we've rented from those other companies. I would not recommend this property to my friends and due to poor experience definitely will never use Resort Realty again. Everyone in our group was very disappointed at the condition of this home when we arrived, and upset that there was no option to locate another rental at that time. I had to hear their complaints about the issues every day of our stay. Not fun for me. Due to this experience we have already started planning for 2024 so we have a better selection of rentals using another rental/management agency we've had great experiences with in the past. From the moment we arrived we knew that Spare Time was going to be a disappointment. We immediately noticed the poor condition of the exterior of the home, as well as the weeds and overgrown, and unmaintained landscape. There were random rocks placed in unexpected spots, one of which got run over and damaged one of our vehicles. By comparison, all the homes surrounding Spare Time have nicely manicured landscapes as well as clean and painted exteriors. Spare Time is badly in need of painting. The exterior railing, with all original spindles, haven't been painted in years. Most of the post caps are missing, and many of the spindles are broken. Not only is this an eyesore, but it is also quite dangerous especially on the upper deck levels. None of the lights surrounding or in the pool are operational - this proved to be a challenge at night and a big safety concern since we had little children in our party. Except for two lights on the lower back deck, none of the exterior lights work - the house is pitch black at night. The door to the outside shower has rusty and broken hinges, the door to the back gate to the pool is also rotted and broken. The hose rack was rusted and broke as we attempted to wind the hose after use. Once inside, we were appalled at the condition of the interior of the home. While the entry has what seemed to be newly installed flooring, unfortunately covered by filthy runners, the rest of the flooring in the home is in awful condition. The home still has the original Berber carpeting - it is badly stained everywhere, and many areas of the carpeting have buckling and lumps. As if the disrepair wasn't bad enough, it seems the housekeeping staff had neglected to clean! After a frantic call upon check-in on a Sunday, Resort Realty did send out two cleaners at the end of the day. These very thorough women did what they could in 30 minutes, but even they couldn't fix what appears to have been years of neglect. All the curtains have layers of dirt and dust, most are difficult to open and close. The window blinds are un-matched, and most are dirty, and a few are broken. All the windows are dirty, and many with broken seals. Many of the window frames are rotted from years of moisture. A few of the sliding doors have broken locks, and all of them are dirty. Every hanging light has cobwebs, with layers and layers of dirt making them quite visible - especially over the dining table, which still had crumbs from the previous occupants. The shower in one of the bathrooms would not drain, and the shower head didn't operate properly. All the shower doors had black scum at the sliding base, and one of them had a broken handle so the door could not be opened or closed. The furniture is stained and dirty - there were crumbs and dog hair under the cushions, and piles of it under all the upholstered furniture. We needed to vacuum before we could use any of it. I didn't dare to look under the beds. The area rugs are old and dirty and badly in need of replacement. The wall-to-wall carpeting had not been vacuumed - there were crumbs, dirt, dead bugs, human hair, and dog hair everywhere. We know this because my husband vacuumed all the carpeting, baseboards, interior railing spindles and filled two large vacuum cannisters - and this was after the second set of cleaners attempted to clean what the first cleaners apparently missed. The wood and tile floors had not been cleaned and had food spots, as well as hair, crumbs, and dirt. Lest there be doubt as to the accuracy of this review- we have many pictures we can share with you. In the end, we all agreed that dated is acceptable, which this house certainly is, but the disrepair and filth are not. Resort Realty, as well as the owner, should all be ashamed of the condition of this home. The $7296.84 (includes taxes and fees) paid for this home is well-above what is reasonable and fair for a rental in this condition. read more

This management company does not follow industry standard COVID-19 cleaning protocol. Upon arriving at the Sea Glass Shack with my husband and 1 year old, we were greeted by a filthy, clearly unsatitized condo. There were toe nail clippings, pubic hair, dead insects, sand, food particles and other debris all throughout the home. To the point where our bare feet we visibly sullied when walking across the floor. The management company was clear that they do not provide deep cleaning after each guest checkout and this level of cleaning is only conducted twice a year. In fact, they used words like "tidying" and "sanitize" interchangeably in our discussion. We ended up having to run to Walmart for cleaning supplies and cleaned the entire home ourselves - which was gross! While the owner of Sea Glass Shack has done a lovely job of stage the home, I recommend that either the property owner require more standard cleaning requirements or going with another property management company. read more

e chose to stay at a house that we had previously rented on our last trip to the outer banks, the house itself was as good as it was the first time around, the difference this time is that we chose to come during peak season to be able to accommodate everyone's schedules in our group at the expense of double the price ( $4200 ) vs our last visit in September that was half the expense ( $2k ) we reserved our house through " RESORT REALTY " back in January in the beginning of the year. Everybody was looking to get away from all the noise and be at the outer banks enjoying the peace and quiet of our rented vacation home. Well, this is not what we got upon arrival on this trip, instead we arrived to find that the owners of the property next door were building a house almost right on top of our vacation home. So instead of peace and quiet, we get to wake up early every morning to air compressors and nail guns and saws and hammers banging. When I emailed " RESORT REALTY " to express my issues about this, there response was " SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE " but there's nothing we can do about it and that they don't have to notify me of the construction prior to my arrival as it states in the fine print of my rental agreement. Fuck common courtesy right ! To worried about losing a $4200 rental for that week. So this is to warn others that if there thinking about renting a house on the outer banks for there vacation ? They better think twice about renting from " RESORT REALTY " or you could end up staying on a open construction site for your yearly vacation instead of having a peaceful vacation. Also, my wife just informed me that yesterday during the day that maintenance decided that it would be a good idea to come into our rental home while we were actively renting the property for the week and change the air conditioning filters. Can't hear knocking over the construction, Just let themselves in and scared the crap out of my wife and our 87 year old mother that was home at the time. Two couples with their babies (8 months and 18 months old). From day one we had huge issues with the cleanliness of the place. Bugs everywhere, "Clean" sheets wrapped in plastic were covered in hair, dust everywhere, spider webs everywhere inside and out, water dispenser on fridge literally had mold in it (My 8 month old and I got sick from it, that's how we noticed), carpets had not been vacuumed in months, the jetted tub had a completely blocked drain and black scum coming out of the faucet. I notified resort realty the first night of the bugs and sheets and they sprayed for bugs the next day, snaked the tub drain a few days later, and dropped off new sheets but the initial cleanliness was absolutely unacceptable! They don't allow for early check in/late check out because of COVID and it's apparent they think the germs just disappear after 6 hours because they sure are NOT cleaning or disinfecting anything. I absolutely will not ever stay here again or even stay with any resort realty property. I contacted them about the mold on the water dispenser and their response was a mild "Did a doctor tell you that your illness was because of the fridge?" ABSOLUTELY no remorse and she laughed when I asked for a simple cleaning fee refund. Her repeated response of "well I just don't know what you want me to do now that you've checked out." infuriates me and I have already contacted the Dare County health department. BEWARE FUTURE RENTERS! We stayed at Seascape (2869) in Duck, NC "managed" through Resort Realty last week. Never again will I use this company. I arrived at this 8,000$ a week rental and hauled all my groceries up to the third floor "fully equipped kitchen" and found a dorm refrigerator sitting on the kitchen counter of this 20 person rental. The battered looking full sized refrigerator sitting next to it had been obviously out of service for some time based upon the mold growing inside. A call to the rental agency confirmed this and after 5 more calls and 24 hour delay we were told by a very rude property manager named Theresa, "sorry, nothing we can do, part is on order" response. When we suggested moving a first floor basic refrigerator up to the kitchen, we were told that they didn't have anyone that could do this within their agency. When we suggested hiring a moving company to do this, they scoffed at the idea. When we responded that this was unacceptable, Theresa said that there was nothing she could do blaming the property owners repeatedly and indicating that she had "experienced worse rental situations" (WARNING, future renters of any property with this agency) and we should be happy with what we had. I then went outside to the extensive decking and was met with what can only be described as disgusting (see pictures). None of the decking had been power washed or even sprayed down in weeks (maybe months). After getting no response, my first morning was spend spraying the 2nd and 3rd floor decking and windows to remove in some cases 1/4" deep of dead bugs and cobwebs. It was still very unsightly, but at least my guests would be able to sit on the porch. Just as a side note, properties on both sides of our rental appeared spotless. Other issues included a broken dishwasher, broken grill on the kitchen porch, showers that filled with water as you showered, dirty towels left in a bathroom, a loose railing on the second story, a badly stained pool that needed vacuuming, a single kitchen towel, and no back up generator for the elevator when the power went out (which of course it did the morning we left). Getting our handicapped guest down the stairs to leave was very difficult. No one was at the rental office the entire time we were there so there was no way to go in and talk to anyone. There is no ability to write an honest review on their site, as that is filtered by the company. After three days of back and forth with the agency, we decided not to let the issues ruin our vacation and enjoyed our guests. They, too, were all amazed at the management of the house and the how little could have been done to address the issues but was ignored. read more

This is the first time that I've ever posted a negative review. My husband and I rented a condo in a place called Duck Nest at 117 Sea Colony Drive, Duck NC. After recently losing my father, we thought it would be good for my elderly mother to get away and join us. While unpacking we all began to notice things weren't very clean and it just got worse. This condo hadn't been cleaned in weeks/months. All surfaces in the condo were dirty including the TV screens. Being a nurse, COVID-19 was and still remains a big concern. We also found both toilets to be dirty and the seats were broken and chipped. The shower curtain rod was rusted (ended up ruining a towel). We called Resort Reality and they wanted to try to rectify the problem by sending a cleaning crew over. They told me that they would not do a big cleaning at that time. We declined and requested another unit or our money back. It would've taken days to clean the place. No other unit was available so the next day we informed them that we were leaving and made reservations at a hotel. We have never had to do this with any other rental company. I could've taken many more pictures but it just made me too upset. The reality company was more concerned about whether a sanitizing strip was placed across the toilet seats. They obviously have not been overseeing their cleaning crew. Unacceptable with a pandemic going on. We had to cut our vacation short and they refused to refund any of our money. read more

RUN, don't use this company. My daughter and her new husband rented a condo for a quick honeymoon visit to the outer banks. We have gone there for years and used many rental companies. They arrived Sunday - the $2,000 a week condo was run down and dingy. First night they went out on the rickety deck sat down and the arm fell off the chair. Next day my daughter noticed the water damage all around the slider and roaches. Called the management company immediately. They put in a "work order" - many many calls and nothing. They just tell her there's a work order in. Today is Thursday and they are still waiting. My daughter is having some respiratory issues from the mold in the unit. She file a complaint with the BBB and took photos of all of the damage and bugs. There are much better companies to rent from, stay away from this one. read more

Resort Realty A Promise Kept 1425. Corolla, NC - Whalehead Beach area. First let me begin that everyone that I was in contact with through Resort Realty during the entire rental process was very responsive and courteous. When we arrived at the house we immediately found filth. After a long day of driving and being exhausted we immediately immersed in 2+ hours to clean the house to allow us to feel comfortable to begin to utilize the house. The following is just a few examples of what we came in contact with..Every kitchen drawer, cupboard, dishes, silverware, glasses had to be rewashed. Half bath toilet seat completely broke off as someone sat to use it. Cannot describe the amount of filth on the toilet itself where the seat resided. Nothing vacuumed, floors included the past occupants hair and dog hair.. Understandably the house is "pet" friendly but at least furniture could have been vacuumed before our occupancy. Hot tub had a film of fungi no one could describe.. hard to tell what it was. Cover was completely dry rotted and should not even be in use. Electrical cover in master bedroom completely cracked off with a years worth of dust behind face plate. Spider webs years in the making clinged to every light fixture not to mention the fur of dust on ceiling fan blades. Kitchen faucet completely sprayed and leaked at each use causing a pool of water on the entire counter... I contacted Resort Realty concerning the faucet, toilet seat and hot tub the next day. They were very responsive and did send someone to fix the issues. In the interim however given the amount of water filling the sink we did make a trip to Ace Hardware and bought the necessary tools to fix the leak.. Also fixed a completely broken bar stool that the seat was just placed on top with no screws.. To the owners: You really need to monitor who is cleaning and maintaining your residence.. If in fact it is Resort Realty you really need to review these legitimate complaints seeing that there are many and address these issues with your home. Extremely unacceptable conditions. I feel confident the next family renting after us will find the house in somewhat better conditions then what we were left to address and sanitize to make it livable for us as adults plus my young grandchildren..THe f read more

My family and I rented Dream Inn in Kill Devil Hills, for the week of July 11-18, 2020. We normally stay at Croatan Surf Club, but we felt "safer" staying in a single family home with our own pool during the pandemic. We arrived at the office to get our key for check in at 4:00, well aware that we might have to wait for the extra cleaning measures that they were supposedly taking due to COVID-19. We were fine with the wait because we wanted a safe, clean property. At 6 PM we were notified that our home was clean, inspected, and ready for us. Upon entry to our home it was evident that very little cleaning had taken place. This was very concerning because I am immunocompromised and we had our 4 year and 9 month-old grandchildren with us. Our "pet-free" property was covered in dog hair. The "touch points in the home were grime covered. The kitchen had dried food on the counters, cabinets, and floor. The bathrooms were filthy; mine had dried urine on the toilet seat. I purchased and placed a shower liner over the moldy one, as well. Due to the pandemic, we brought cleaning supplies with us. So, instead of enjoying the pool and beach, we spent our first evening-- well into the night, properly cleaning, dusting vacuuming, and sanitizing. (Good news, the vacuum dust holder has finally been emptied by us). I wasn't comfortable with calling the realty company to solve the cleaning issues because it was evident that cleaning properly wasn't within their skill set. Additionally, our paperwork from Resort Realty stated that people might have to vacate the property for cleaning or maintenance. With two young children and high heat during a pandemic this would be difficult. I wish I would have read reviews about this company before renting from them. Our home wasn't properly cleaned and we all felt uncomfortable because of it. It was obvious that customer safety and happiness wasn't a priority with Resort Realty. Never again! read more

HORRIBLE house cleaning. In fact the house wasn't cleaned at all when we received the text and went inside at 4:00. Dirty sheets and towels were on the beds. Piles of dirt on the floors. Nasty things in trash cans. Food on dishes. Half drank bottles of water on table with a roll of used toilet paper. We waited for 3 hours for someone to rectify the issue. No one came. When I called at 7:00, everyone was done for the day. Not acceptable for checkin day. When I finally got a person on the emergency line, I waited until someone called back and was told that it was unlikely someone would be available to clean until the next day - during a pandemic. I was told no one would clean the house and I needed to stay there with my family in other peoples filth during a pandemic. I told them I needed CLEAN accommodations and was again told I either needed to find some other place to stay on my own or sleep there in the filth. Of course everything was booked. You advertise enhanced cleaning protocols but what I found wasn't even close to the standard I had received at other realty companies in the outer banks. Light switches were so dirty, there is no way they were disinfected EVER. They ruined our first day of our vacation and other than finding someone to clean good enough that I wasn't afraid to touch everything, delaying our use of the house for 6 hours they did nothing to rectify the issue. read more

More specifically, I am rating the exquisite 3-story beach home "Retreat", where I am relaxing right now and listening to the rolling waves. This home is right on the beachfront. With the Nor'easter the past couple days, the surf came right up to the private walkway to the beach. On the first floor deck, there is a hot tub and pool. On the second floor deck, there are chairs and a wicker couple's swing. On the third floor, you have several deck chairs to choose from. Inside, when we arrived, the home was immaculately clean. There are clean towels and hairdryers in the bathrooms. The kitchen is fully stocked with cookware. There are cute, original pieces of art hanging in the living/family room made with buttons and cute phrases like, "Just a kiss can keep you swimming." There are great additions to the home that I've never seen anywhere else like a a game room on the first floor with a wrap-around red microsuede couch and track lighting on the carpeting! We have been playing some epic Rockband in there. Upstairs, there's a telescope to admire the stunning, humbling night sky and binoculars to spot the dolphins that are often playing in the surf. We've basically only left the house to eat and shop, and this has been one great beach vacation. read more

The house we rented in Duck was offered as a "premium " property. You would think that would mean it was taken care of. It was so dirty on the outside we are not able to use any of the outside spaces. Inside the floors are dirty, some with dead bugs. The drawers have dead bugs too. The utensils were disgusting and they did supply new ones. There are flies all over inside and out. The cabana is so disgusting it is an eyesore and smells. Definitely not worth the "premium" price. We rent a house every year and we have never had anything like this. read more

We were disappointed in the house (Papa Duck) we rented (July 2019) through Resort Realty. It has a great layout and we were looking forward to it fitting our large party. The house NEEDS MAINTENANCE and Resort needs to focus on customers and return calls! Upon arrival, we spent 4 hours cleaning-not the way to start a vacation. We had to buy cleaning supplies to clean the house before we could enjoy our vacation. There were cobwebs and long term dust and dirt in the ceilings and blinds and under the beds. The house needs painted-I think it was only ever primered as the smashed bugs can't really be fully removed from the walls. Towel bars were barely hanging on as were a few shower curtain holders. One of the beds was held up with a pile of shingles. The linens and carpet need updated. The pool liner is ripped in the corner and there were weeds and thorn bushes all around the exterior of the pool. We were looking forward to the 'new' outdoor furniture but several of the chairs were so dirty, they couldn't be cleaned and several others were cracked and dangerous to sit in. The dryer takes at least 2 cycles to dry a load. Surely an indication of a blockage and fire hazard. The smoke alarms do work - they went off for about 3 hours one morning starting at 4:45 am. There were also ants in the kitchen when we arrived and some kind of bug collection in the corner of the cathedral ceiling that we couldn't reach. This was supposed to be a "premium" property. I don't want to think what surprises a standard property would hold! Resort Realty was not quick to respond and never called us back though they did send a lone maintenance man to replace lightbulbs and the extermination company showed up 3 days after we arrived to deal with the ants. (They were impressed with our Gain dish soap treatment though that seemed to have resolved most of the issue.) We found a pool company traveling the neighborhood who showed us how to hook up our pool vacuum and clean it ourselves because it was so dirty. Resort NEVER called us back about any concerns we raised and didn't respond to the emails we sent of the pictures of damage and dirt. Really a shame because we spent a lot of money and the layout and location of the house is great. WE WON'T STAY IN A RESORT REALTY PROPERTY AGAIN. read more

We booked Golden Goal #3980 in Duck, NC, in the Poteskeet community. We had not been to the OBX prior, but loved the location being walking distance to everything. Resort Realty provides minimal photos of properties, and upon our arrival, we realized why. First, we paid for early check in. This was $140+ change for the fee and tax, plus a $29.95 processing fee to process the payment. They have a text service that you can register for that will alert you as to when the house is available. We were nearly there when I received a text stating that the unit was ready. I drove to the office and was greeted and given the keys to the unit. As we pulled up, we saw cars in the driveway. My husband got out to see what was going on, and came back to say that it was the owner and a maintenance man doing a repair, and that housekeeping hadn't been there yet and would not be there for another hour. I called the office, where the manager, Fran, apologized and said that he would refund me the early check in fee. I asked if they would alert me when the unit was ready and he said yes. Four hours later, I called the office back to see if our unit was ready. Fran said it was. In the meantime, we had to find something to do with our 2 dogs that we brought with us and we were tired from driving all night from Pittsburgh. There was one restaurant that allowed dogs on their outdoor deck and was very nice but very expensive. Not the kind of place you want to go to in your travel clothes without a shower! But they were very nice to us and even brought our dogs water. When we walked into the unit on 8/29/15 at about 4:30pm, the 6 bedroom 4.5 bath house with pool and hot tub was dirty. There was dried pizza sauce smeared on the kitchen island, a piece of red candy stuck to the couch, a ring around the tub in one bathroom, dried food on the dining table and coffee table. I called and spoke to Fran again to let him know, and he offered nothing other than to send a cleaning crew over again. We were tired, and just wanted to get showers, but before we did anything else, we ran to the market to get cleaning supplies to clean. I had no confidence that the cleaning crew that had been there would care much to make it any cleaner. We took inventory of the kitchen, and found a skillet with a thick coating of bacon grease in the bottom of it, stacked up in the cabinet. Another mixing bowl had water and a grasshopper in it. You just can't make this stuff up! We were told that those dishes were left by the previous renter. No apologies, no offer to do anything for us, we were just supposed to clean it ourselves. As if this wasn't enough, the carpets were stained and dirty. We went to run the vaccuum cleaner that we found but it didn't pick up any of the dirt. We wore our shoes in the house all week. When we went to load the dirty dishes into the dishwasher to clean them, the whole dishwasher pulled out from under the counter because it was not mounted! Two screws was apparently too much time and expense for Resort Realty to bother with. Now for the outside. We noticed cobwebs all over the deck areas and the rafters outside. I went to brush some down, and spiders ran out of them. Fran's explanation was that spiders are really bad this year and no matter how many times you pressure wash, it will still look that way. Funny, because friends of ours were just down there a week prior and didn't have that experience, and most places we went to didn't have cobwebs covering them either. Maybe because they clean and maintain them? That would be my guess. There was a spider in front of the hot tub, I am not exaggerating, that was about 5 inches in diameter. There were two of these in the pool area and two by the front door that I saw. At this point, I requested an exterminator and an outside cleaning, which was never responded to and never happened during my stay. We did not use the pool or hot tub because of this. I don't want spiders crawling in my towels! So, nearly two weeks after my check in, i called Fran to find out about the status of my early check in refund. He said I would receive a check sometime in the month of September. This was a contradiction to what I was told previously, which is that I would receive a credit back to my card that I used for payment within 3-5 days. I told Fran that I also wanted to receive reimbursement for the processing fee. He at first said he couldn't, but I told him that I should not be out money for a payment for a service that I purchased that they failed to provide. He agreed to that reimbursement. I just received an email stating that I would receive a refund for $140. This is $30 short, and obviously does not include the reimbursement for my payment processing fee. People, do yourselves a favor and NEVER book your vacation through Resort Realty. They are dishonest, falsely advertised the property and services and do not respond or follow up with requests. read more

Only giving one star because it's not possible to give zero. My family stayed at Beau Soleil, an oceanfront house in Duck, in July. The house is in terrible condition and is wrought with safety issues. Most significantly, the balusters on the third floor deck were so rotted that at least 10 were no longer connected to the deck at the bottom. We had two children under three with us, and luckily we discovered this before a tragedy occurred. The deck is sinking and rotted all around the hot tub, and the wooden path to the beach had may nails and board sticking out. The faucets were covered in black mold, as well as the water and ice maker. There was no functioning vacuum in the house and it was clear the cleaners hadn't vacuumed, as there was black dog hair everywhere. There was trash under the beds. Doors wouldn't slide open and the lock to the pool gate was broken. The pool deck was covered in sand and thorny vines. Too many issues to list. The realty company resolved some, but we spent HOURS dealing with the many issues, cleaning up, nailing down boards, removing sand and trimming vines so that we could try to salvage this dump of a house. The cost, all in, was $15,000 for the week. The owner refused to reimburse us a single dollar for the many issues we faced. We were offered a $125 refund from the property manager, which weeks later has not been paid. Theresa, the property manager, was incredibly rude. Do not stay at this disaster of a house or rent with this company. We have stayed in the Outer Banks for many years and have never had such an experience. read more

We've rented houses in the outer banks for years and this is the worst rental company experience we've ever had. Our house was not clean upon arrival, the refrigerator was broken the entire week, the toilet was not secured to the floor properly, the furniture on the outside deck was covered in spider webs and dead bugs and all was reported to them on the first day and they only fixed the toilet. On checkout day they changed the entry number on the door thirty minutes before checkout. read more

I was considering renting an event home for my OBX wedding through Resort Realty but their poor customer service, inflexibility, and price-gauging made me look elsewhere. I first called them a few days ago asking for the event fee for a particular house. The rude and unprofessional woman who answered the phone said, "The guy who handles that is out of the office right now and our computers are down. There's nothing I can do for you." Click. When we called back today, we spoke to the even coordinator, and they want $2,000 for the event fee, double what all the other realty places are charging! And it looks like charge all the way up to $2500 for some houses. Forget it. Too bad I loved the house, but there's only so much I am willing to get ripped off. Especially after seeing the horrible review from last August (see the filtered reviews) and comments from people on the Resort Realty Facebook page saying they were unhappy with their rental houses, too. I'll be using Village Realty since they only charge $1,000 for the event fee, check out cleaning is included, and their reviews are much better. read more

Terrible service! Waited 6 months to repair damage to a beach front house we've rented for a decade and so were not ready for us even though we booked a year in advance. Shuffled us off to another, more expensive house way off the beach. In the repairs, they removed beach access stairs and outdoor shower even though it was listed in the description. Made zero effort to make amends - well, offered us back $90 from our check for a 3 week stay. They were totally unapologetic. Never again! read more

My family and I rented the "Golden Drake" #3929 in Schooner Ridge this past week, Saturday, August 6-14, 2010. We have rented in Schooner Ridge for two years previous in properteries managed by Twiddy and Southern Shores. Both of these experiences were great. When I checked in @ Resort Realty I was impressed with the easy and relaxed staff who surprised me by saying the Golden Drake was ready. We quickly found the house and became increasingly frustrated at the obvious long term lack of care (ground in dirt) spider webs in every room, piles of dust and debris, as well as ground in dirt and stains on the carpets, furniture, floors, comforters and pillows. One pillow had obviously been used by someone very ill and not cleaned. Bugs and ants we in abundance as we found many ant traps and small ants roaming the dish cupbords. I was very concerned as this year our family has become 9 with the addition of our 8 month old Grandaughter. I immediately began putting loads of wash into the washer and called the cleaning office who sent us Mary and her crew to do the best they could to help us. They worked and worked even calling in 2 more family members to do as much as possible at the end of the day on a Saturday check-in. I was very impressed with the women and their hard work. Mary's daughter (Angie I believe) had just given birth a month ago herself and was on her knees trying to get up the dirt ground into the tilework in the bathrooms. When they left I continued to work and by Monday afternoon felt we had done what we could to make the place livable. This included having to clean the washer and dryer before use, doing 9 loads of laundry to clean all rugs, pillows and comforters; wiping down all walls and fans which we covered with dust and spiderwebs; washing all dishes (they had been put into the cupboards dirty) and cleaning out the refidgerator. We had to immediately go buy ice as the freezer part of the fridge did not seal correctly and frosted up. My husband discovered on Sunday that one of the reason the AC was not cooling the upstairs sufficently was that the filters were totally plugged. he removed and cleaned them but we suspect the entire line must contain trapped dust as the AC only improved by about 2 degrees. Several of the toilets need new insides and later in the week we found new innards in a closet and suspect the owner has it on his to do list and just didn't get it done before we arrived. Saturday am a man was walking around on the top deck. My daughter saw him as she came up the stairs and we asked him if we could help him. He said he had been hired to put on a new deck as the ones on the house were deemed too rotted to be safe. On Monday morning another man was up on the top deck and knocked (luckily I was dressed.) He was James Earl Neilson and was wearing a resort realty shirt but had no id other than his drivers license. He asked me if I was the owner and when I said no he said he was at the house to fix a sliding door. I wasn't sure what he meant but did show him the torn and loose screens which made the screened in porch unusable. He fixed those and then the next day I realized the screen door to the upper deck was unusable but by that point I was overwhelmed with the continual noise and confusion as the Landscaping crew showed up @ 7am Tuesday morning with a front loader, chipper and 8 man crew who worked until after 12noon cutting down trees and preparing for the sewage pipe installation. The lanscaper showed us where the raw sewage was leaking up into the volleyball court. Luckily with the smell and all the work needing to be done the "big kids" had not had a chance to play volleyball. The court remained unusable for the rest of the week and this was another disappointment as my son-in -law played for the Uof MD and professionally so we were looking forward to that particular feature of the house. At 7am on Wednesday morning the septic crew arrived using a back hoe and other equipment to repair the sewage field. The noise was again unbearable for sleeping or being able to relax in the hot tub or anywhere in the area. We had at this point not had any time to rest or enjoy the OBX. We saw other vacant properties in the subdivision but were told there was no other place we could go. Resort Realty has offered us a $500.00 rebate for our inconvenience. We payed over $3600 for our week stay and ended up with only Thursday and Friday which were even close to acceptable. I would DEFINITELY consider going somewhere else first than Resort Realty. The first house we were at, we found BED BUG shells. Resort Realty said that they would refund the money for the two days. They moved us to a new house at 11:30pm(we called them at 4:30) that had 4 rooms instead of the 6 that was paid for. THEN after paying for a beach house in Corolla, they moved us all the way to Duck and essentially said if you don't like it take your money and go home. THEN the next day when we were cleaning the old house out with our items, our clothes did not look like they were treated at all. FINALLY to put the cherry on top, The new house there were PILLS, bottles, COCKROACHES, and it's disgusting.... we had to reclean and rewash because we were not given any new linens, just the linens on the beds. When they called the office they didn't even care...finally they told us they were only going to give us $150 back and my husband(an attorney) had to call back. Thy finally agreed to refund us a better chunk. BUT THEN at the end of our trip at 8:00am the pool people came to start cleaning and they told us to get cleaning and things out of the pool. Then at 9:45 the cleaning crew came and WAITED outside the driveway. I just have never dealt with this many rude people in one company. And we travel to the outer banks every year. read more

Rented Castle in the Sand for a first annual family gathering at the Outer Banks. Walked into a nightmare on the beach. I'm not sure how the house passed Resort Realty's thorough examination before the next guests arrive because as soon as you walked in you smelled stagnant moist air. Visible mold in 5 different places. Nasty carpets throughout. Don't go by the pictures of the rentals is the moral of the story here. The mgmt. company of course would offer to send in people to fix the issues but who wants that on vacation?? One couple left because the conditions were poor and they have a small child. Very embarrassing. Housekeeping didn't do a great job here at all. Disappointing for sure, use a different rental company if you can. read more

We stayed at Dabbling Duck. While the location of the house was perfect and the floor plan was nice we had a horrific incident that will prevent me from EVER staying with this company again. The pool boy came on a Tuesday around 11 am (because why would the children want to use it at that time) and upon seeing the back of the house which is fenced off he started screaming obscenities and using the "f word". Not only that but he began taking pictures of what he claimed was the worst mess he had ever seen. It was extremely unprofessional! I'm am amazed someone like that is permitted to work with the public. It was a family vacation with children all the way up to our Grandfather who is in his 80's. We did not need to be scolded like children. When we checked out the home was cleaned and everything was all in one piece. If management had a problem they should have handled it professionally. We were humiliated. Unless you like to be belittled with foul language I suggest finding another vacation rental! read more

Do NOT consider renting a vacation rental with Resort Realty. We reserved a oceanfront cottage named "Meyers" approximately 6 months in advance for our vacation week starting September 11, 2016. This decision was made after weighing a lo of different options for house including location and amenities. The reservation was made this early because some of the laces under consideration were being taken each timid we checked back. We signed the lease and paid for he rental well in advance and we're looking forward to our week at he beach. We've rented houses on the Outer Banks pretty much every year for over 30 years using a number of different Realtors but this was our first and last time using Resort Realty. All seemed to be normal until just TWO WEEKS before we were to begin our stay we got a call from Resort Realty saying "the owner needed the property and we needed to move". We had a signed and paid lease but that didn't seem to matter to Resort Realty. Of course with only 2 weeks left there were no comparable properities left available. The list of available properties provided by Resort Realty were not even close with only one oceanfront option provided and that property was located right next to a crowded hotel and was a bit run down. Resort Realty took no actions to make their unjust actions right of us. Their actions were clearly unethical and unfair. We were extremely fortunate to find a last minute alternative property that we were able to book for our vacation. Resort Realty was not able to follow through for us and made basically no attempts to make right with the situation Resort Realty caused. We had to find our own rental and get a full refund of the money we paid. Resort Realty was not willing to provide any compenstion for the trouble they caused us. Don't even think about using this realtor for anything. They are extremely untrustworthy and unworthy of your business. read more
