Lots of parking, seating areas, bathrooms (with a changing station), various animals, lots of information to learn and a vending machine if that's your thing. Definitely can't wait to come back!! Don't expect there to be zoo keepers in every which direction, it's a very quiet laid back soon. Better than the Merced zoo in my opinion.

Fast forward 10 years later, and the wife and I traveled to Lodi to visit Micke Grove zoo, excited to see what improvements they have completed over those 10 years. What an utter and complete disappointment. 2/3rd's of the habitats were empty, not full of shy animals, but completely void of any animals whatsoever. The grounds were very unkempt, and a 1/3rd of what used to be animal displays, including a at one time beautiful bird rotunda have been removed and/or fenced off. Sadly, what was once a very lively, well kept, active animal exhibit now looks like it on its last legs and ready to close down all together.

The park has plenty of open green space, mature trees, and shaded pathways that make it a pretty easy walk even on warmer summer days like today. It has a really chill vibe and there is usually a good mix of people and families hanging out in and enjoying the space. There's a lot of community in this area and it definitely shows at the park. It's been a while since we've visited, and this is my first time here since they reopened the pool last year. It was incredibly busy in that area of the park so we made sure to wander over toward the rose garden where it was much quieter. The roses are in bloom and I took a cute photo of my dog in front of them this afternoon. Even though there were a lot of people at the pool area, the rest of the park had plenty of open space. It can definitely get crowded on the weekends or when there are big events, but typically you can find parking on the street all around the park or in the adjacent neighborhood. Just a few steps away. I did also notice the new self-cleaning restrooms that they installed at the park as we were walking by. You can see the digital displays from the sidewalk, but I did not need to use the restroom so I didn't check them out for myself. It's a very interesting concept however and I applaud the city for doing their part to try to create clean, safe spaces for the community.

Basketball with enclosure so you don't have to chase down every stray missed shot, thank you. A nice walkway to run or walk for better health and get your vitamin D from the California Sun...check! Baseball field to sharpen your skills or just get some exercise, or to coach up your little league team...check again. In short, this park has everything including the music in the park series. And if that's not enough don't miss the Haggin Museum which has some nice pieces in there including the stunning painting of Yosemite Valley. I'll be visiting this park frequently over the summer!

They have cute little imagination play areas set up and rotate them weekly plus a small play structure that is so fun. It's very clean and they have a clean up station set up too. Right next door was an escape room. Suddenly the group stood there staring at each other trying to decide between brains or brute force. Naturally, the most sophisticated decision-making system known to mankind was deployed... Rock. Paper. Scissors. Guys vs. girls. The battle was intense. Honor was on the line. Pride was at stake. The guys won axes... the ladies won the escape room. And judging by the fact that I'm writing this review about throwing axes... you already know who claimed victory. So in we went, channeling our inner Vikings. Beers were grabbed, shoulders loosened, and suddenly a group of adults began grunting and laughing like a tribe preparing for battle. Honestly... we probably shouldn't be left unsupervised. One thing that really stood out was the staff. The young man helping us was actually on the job training, but you wouldn't have known it by how well he handled everything. He did a great job, and his manager stayed right there beside him coaching and guiding him the whole time. It was honestly refreshing to see a manager taking pride in making sure her team was trained the right way. Then the throwing began. Axes flying, laughter echoing, friendly trash talk everywhere. It was one of those experiences where everyone relaxes, lets loose, and just enjoys the moment. The lanes were super clean and the whole place was immaculate. But believe it or not... the unexpected highlight of the night? The bathroom. The ladies came out laughing saying "come here!" Naturally we rushed over thinking something had gone wrong and we were about to save the day. Nope. There's a button in the bathroom that basically dares you to press it... something like "what's the worst that could happen?" You press it and suddenly music starts blasting and a light show kicks off like you're in a tiny bathroom nightclub. Absolutely hilarious. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, the entire experience was professional, clean, fun, and full of great energy. Limitless Axes & Ales absolutely nailed it. And if you go... don't skip the bathroom button. Trust me.
