American Legion Park - This is a beautiful sun perch.. catch and release

American Legion Park

American Legion Park is probably the iconic park of Stockton. I'm not saying it's the best park,…read morebut it is the park that most resembles "old" Stockton in that the entire city used to congregate here for the 4th of July decades ago. First, Stockton wasn't always on the wrong side of a population 350k or more. I remember when we were about half that in the early 80's. This park was the premiere location to hang out and just relax. There really isn't much for facilities here. There is basketball, a kids playground and that's about it. The grassy bank protecting the 'hood from flooding is kinda cool because it provides an interesting pathway around the park and the Smith Canal. There are some concrete tables and benches if you want to throw a quick BBQ or just share some beers during COVID. You can fly a drone and get some great pics of Stockton from about 500 feet. You can throw a frisbee and lose in said Canal. You can talk a dog for a nice walk around and double back or shoot all the way to Pershing and make a loop. In short, this isn't the largest, most beautiful, or even the best facilites, but the location matters and this place used to the heart of Stockton when times were a lot better (kid of the 80's, greatest decade ever)!

Going to this park was nostalgic. I used to go to this park all the time and fish a long time ago…read more It was surprisingly quiet, I don't know why but I thought it would be more active. I visited this park on mother's day. They do have lots of green grass area, a lake or the pond ...I don't know if that's the body of water from the delta. Anyway, it's a cool spot to take the family to, if you don't want to go to the sometimes overcrowded Victory Park down the street.

We got lucky, we were the only ones here so we had the whole playground to ourselves. The place is really big and their jumpy things are in great condition! They have lot of little areas to jump and play. The girl working the front desk was very friendly and informative and helpful. The bouncy houses are so much fun! The smell of cleaning solution is very faint but still enough that you feel confident they clean often which is nice. This place is great if you need to kill some time with kids on a hot day!

Only your party can be there during your time block so the place is all yours. All little kids must wear their own grip socks (that they sell). Adults must wear socks in the play area but they can be regular socks. The place charged to bring outside food, but there is plenty of parking that is free. The set up inside has a small area for little kids (like 6 months - 2 years). The rest is like a little kid ninja warrior set up. Of course my kid was the one who busted his lip but the staff gave me a baggie of ice. They are pretty strict about leaving on time since they have back to back parties on weekends.

Looks like you have to reserve picnic sites but plan accordingly, I rode up on a Garden Club having a flower show in one of the buildings, I went in and was welcomed with open arms. The flowers were amazing! Their meeting was going to start so I left and rode over to the beautiful rose garden! Highly recommend

We were invited to a birthday party and it was located at Micke Grove Park. We were not familiar…read morewith it so I had to get directions. This park has an entrance fee before you can even go in. We paid $6 per vehicle. This park has different areas of picnic areas. The shelter type areas are reserved areas. You'll have to rent these in advanced. If you have a large party with the inflatable jump houses, you'll need reservations as well. For the smaller areas of picnic tables, it's first come first serve kind of thing. Driving around the park is pretty. You'll have to pay close attention for the curvy roads and one way signs. Inside this park, there's a Micke Grove zoo! I heard it's a small one but we didn't have time to check it out. There's also a Japanese Garden. We're very intrigued and will have to come back to check it out. There is also Fun Town, an 18 hole disc golf, water play feature, a lake, and much more. I am sure I've left out quite a bit. You'll have to check out their website for the latest updates and information. Overall, we enjoyed our day here!!
