I saw just about every single animal when visiting. The quieter you are the more you will see in my opinion. Lots of parking, seating areas, bathrooms (with a changing station), various animals, lots of information to learn and a vending machine if that's your thing. Definitely can't wait to come back!! We used to love going to Micke Grove zoo. We would visit every 3 weeks or so when we lived in Lodi. Our last visit when we lived in Lodi had half the zoo closed off for improvements. Fast forward 10 years later, and the wife and I traveled to Lodi to visit Micke Grove zoo, excited to see what improvements they have completed over those 10 years. What an utter and complete disappointment. 2/3rd's of the habitats were empty, not full of shy animals, but completely void of any animals whatsoever. The grounds were very unkempt, and a 1/3rd of what used to be animal displays, including a at one time beautiful bird rotunda have been removed and/or fenced off. Sadly, what was once a very lively, well kept, active animal exhibit now looks like it on its last legs and ready to close down all together. read more

There's a small zoo within these parts where I was able to see a few animals up close. One of the animal caretakers mentioned either the animals' extinction, endangerment, or rehabilitation. Entry requires a minimal fee. The self-tour won't take more than a couple hours. During my visit, the snack bar wasn't opened. It was a pretty quiet atmosphere, and not busy at all. Outside of this zoo, there's a Japanese Garden, picnic sites, outdoor event venues, a golf course, a water park, and therefore some fishing. I missed visiting the Japanese Garden, but it would've been worth my visit. Micke Grove is another broad recreational area. Since the zoo in located inside the grove, there's and initial entrance fee into the multi-acreage park. The drive to get to the zoo goes right, and all the way around several parking lots - look for signage. Visiting here makes for a good random, but leisurely plan. read more

This zoo is absolutely sad, I don't see how it's open. Especially given that this park charges to enter the park grounds and the zoo is extra. The landscape wasn't done, it was dirty, a lot of areas were closed off and looked just abandoned. Most if not all animals there were hidden in their hiding places, they all just look so sad and almost like they're dying or just waiting to die. For them to make as much money as they do.. they need to invest more into that zoo if they plan on keeping it open and those animals alive!!! It was a fun experience for it to be our first time here, but it was extremely sad! read more

It's a very small zoo, but the $5 entry fee makes it worth a visit. You do have to pay the park admission as well -- $6 on weekends or holidays, or $5 on weekdays -- plus the $5 zoo charge on top of that. While there aren't a lot of animals, many of them are rescued and endangered, which makes the visit feel meaningful. Some animals are nocturnal and prefer to stay hidden during the day, and a few areas were closed off during my visit, so I didn't get to see everything. Still, for just $5, it's a nice little stop to see some cute animals and know your money is helping support their rescue and care. read more

We have been wanting to come here for years. Traveling from Sacramento area it was about 1 1/2hr drive. Micke Grove Zoo is a five-acre zoo with amphibians, mammals, birds, reptiles and invertebrates. The zoo opened its gates in 1957. With donations and admission they have upgraded several enclosures over the years and provide care for the animals. Admission when we went in Nov 2024 was $5 14 yrs and up, $3 kids 3-13. Zoo hours 10a-5p.They have successfully breeding several threatened small species. There were a few exhibits closed due to refurbishment when we came. That's no different than any other zoo. Loved watching the bobcat, birds and lizards. Lots of tree coverage above. And even a play area for the kids. If planning to eat, be sure to Bring a lunch to eat at the park outside the zoo as No food stalls open in the zoo at this time. They do have soda, snack and water machines near the restrooms & tables at the back right of the zoo. Don't forget to get your crushed penny while here as a Zoo souvenir $0.50 plus a penny. I love the fact this little zoo is in Stockton and it's so inexpensive! I've been a few times and plan on going again with my toddlers. If you go on a hot or cold day, expect most of the animals to be in their dens. It's still a beautiful walk, Japanese gardens across the way are beautiful too. I do wish the community would bond together and donate to enlarge the enclosures, refresh everything, or perhaps change it into a turtle, duck pond, butterfly atrium, exhibit you can walk through or just expand it and invest into it. There's not a lot to do in Stockton except eat so I appreciate this place and wish others would donate to its cause as well to help our city keep nice things! People who say the animals are abused and tranquilized on here are absolutely lying and immature. read more

A great first time Zoo experience. We took our toddler (20 month old) and newborn and it was perfect for what it was. We enjoyed it being quiet, not a ton of people and seeing the different animals they had. Our toddler really loves birds, so it was great! We also got to see Lemurs, a gecko, a snow leopard and tortoises. The playground in the middle of the Zoo, while small, was a big hit for him. There are a lot of play structures around the Zoo in the park area. However, they seemed a bit old for our toddler. We might try again next summer when he's older and come for a picnic. read more

One of the saddest zoos I've ever seen... actually I've never seen a sad zoo until this one. I wasn't expecting a ton considering it's in Lodi, and it's only $5 for adults (free for children under 3) so how grand could it really be? Well to sum it up, we saw a couple big birds, lemurs, couple turtles, and some kind of monkey but that was about it, and we finished walking the whole thing in 20 minutes. This doesn't include the $6 parking so we almost paid a dollar per minute for our whole stay here! To be fair there was a warning up front stating the animals may be in their cooling centers at times due to the heat, but today was completely gloomy so I was optimistic. My family and I arrived around 11. Parking was 6$ and the tickets to get in were 16$ total. Right after paying there was a sign saying the animals may be inside due to the heat. To my surprised the zoo is very small, it's located in side Mickey park . My opinion this zoo is not well maintained and looks almost dilapidated , I know it needs fundings to help improve the condition that's it in now . This definitely the worst kept zoo I e ever experienced- the garden areas along the walking paths need to be raked and the old debris taken away. The animal enclosures are probably some of the worst I've seen- unkept for sure. Although it might be due to the "hot weather" hardly any of the animals can be seen other than turtles and a few birds- and it's like that every time I visit whether it's spring, summer or fall. I think this zoo is worth it for the price. You're not going to see giraffes, or lions like some Other major zoos but it's great for toddlers and young kids they just love seeing any animals! It's very well kept, bathrooms super clean and staff helpful. It's pretty small, but if u take your time you can spend a good 3-4 hours here. My kids loved the birds and the spider monkey, it's near the Japanese garden and a big playground. We made the most of an entire day in the Michele Grove area and the kids loved it! This is actually a really nice and quant spot to take the younger kids too if you are looking for something to do for the day. If your from Sacramento it's less than an hour drive, so perfect for kids under 3 who can't sit still. The Zoo is pretty small so that's why I saw it's perfect to the younger kids. We were lucky and arrived around 11:30 and were able to get in. No need to pre-purchase tickets like other places. But once the limitations is met then you would have to wait in line for the family already inside to exit to go on. I believe the limit is 100 folks bc it's small. We were able to see majority of the animals roaming around and it took maybe an hour to walk the place. We sat and ate our lunches so that's why it took a little longer. There is no food venue open so be sure to pack lunch for the kiddos. Overall would recommend for families with younger kids who want something to do. read more

Took my girls here for a nice sunny day and there was no where for us to sit and eat because the amount of duck poop all over the place. (we went to three different benches) The park is so so so DISGUSTING. I wouldn't even give it one star but looks like here I can't even unlike one star anymore. SAD clean up this park. I enjoy visiting this little gem. Yes, it is a small zoo, but it is very relaxing. In 2015 they had a Golden- Lion Tamarin, that was wonderful! Sure it may take 15 minutes to walk through, but here is your opportunity to sit and relax watching the animals. There is a Snow Leppard, Golden Eagle, Cotton- Top Tamarin, birds, black and white Ruffed Lemurs, tortoises, etc.. Bring a lunch or snack there is no cafe or never open when I have visited, but there are a few tables inside or outside the zoo in the park. There are signs saying, " shh" so respect the sign for the animals sake and others will appreciate you teaching your children to obey the rules for all to enjoy. There are vending machines, I have not used them. They supposedly have a gift shop or used to whichever I have never seen it opened. The bathrooms are actually very clean, too bad some visitors do not clean up after their use in public restrooms. Staff is friendly, informative, and helpful. This is just the right size zoo for small children especially or if you don't feel like rushing through a zoo. Bring a picnic, your camera, and relax. Oh yeah bring water and sun screen. Have fun! I used to go here as a kid with my family and over the years it has honestly gotten worse and worse there is more "construction " going on instead of there being animals. I get that it's supposed to be an animal conservation but it's still just sad to to see maybe 10 animals most of which are birds. Pretty small zoo. Like an hour maybe? Some sweet spots-- the turtles and the pretty clean pond when you enter. Otherwise, we breezed through here in less than an hour. If you have lots of time to read the plaques, you may be interested. Saw mostly seniors when we went on a weekday. Can't remember much else, so not a destination place, but if you're looking for something to do, not a bad option either. The zoo is super small so don't expect to see a lot of animals, when we came a lot of the animals were inside hiding, which sucked, but understandable. Perfect place to go when you have little ones, my 3 year old had a blast. We walked the place pretty quickly, even after taking a break to let my daughter play in the little play area, by the birds.
