I was curious when I saw this store while walking around the outlets & had asked my friend if we could stop inside. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were greeted by an older lady who was very friendly & very informative about this store.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Once I heard her mention that a % of sales purchased goes towards taking care of the animals for adoption I just had to purchase something. I also saw a big table with homemade cat & dog treats and heard the lady telling a customer that a local lady makes them. I ended up buying a packet of cat treats for my boys & a package of chicken doggie treats for my Mom's dog. All the cats for adoption were so cute but I always feel bad for them being caged up. This place doesn't have your normal cages that you find in those pet stores in the mall. They were pretty neat, clean & looked well ventilated. There were two big dogs for adoption in their cages & 3 cute puppies in an enclosed place on the store floor. What I didn't like is that they had it so you're not able to pet them.....my guess is for liability issues & to keep customer's germs aways from them? Their adoption fee's are affordable too! Definitely think about coming here if you're thinking about adopting/rescuing a dog or cat. Friendly staff, well organized, clean store. No stinky smells here. read more

Amazing rescue! I adopted an adorable 7 yr old cat on July 4. They had already spent over 2k on just her dental care. She was found outside a feral colony but wasn't feral. She was emaciated when the rescue got her. They got her up to 8 pounds in the 3 months she was there. The rescue followed up with me after I brought her home. She's the perfect, most loving cat. Rescue Me Marana (RMM or RMT), Nancy and Allen, and the volunteers are amazing people. They work tirelessly to help the partner rescues find wonderful adopters, collect donations for food, crates, pee pads, etc. to share with rescues in need, and they use their decades of experience to keep the animals healthy, clean, happy, and safe. But most importantly, they have a thorough vetting process for potential adopters and make the best decisions they can all day every day to ensure the animals go to a loving secure home. I first went to RMM four years ago to adopt a kitten and my daughter and I fell in love with two 3-month old brothers when we saw them on Facebook. We couldn't wait to go in and meet them. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nancy was so helpful in deciding if we should adopt one or both. No bias, just facts based on the concerns I mentioned.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I am so glad we adopted both and they're now happy healthy 4 year olds who we've bonded very closely with our family, especially our resident lab mix who had never been introduced to cats. They absolutely respect and adore each other! Based on my experience with adopting and getting to know the rescue better through Facebook posts, I started volunteering at RMM. I had been a volunteer foster for a rescue in WA State and wanted to continue serving animals in need. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It took a while for my volunteer application to get a response (hey it's a busy place, 24/7 the animals are number one priority) and when I messaged them they immediately set up a training shift for me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was obvious to me by the training that each and every process in the rescue operation has been carefully and thoughtfully established for the health and safety of the animals. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nancy brings all her knowledge and experience to the cause, educating everyone who comes through the door asking for help in finding a new furry family member.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]RMM doesn't always have what someone might be looking for, but Nancy can provide guidance, referrals, and a wealth of local knowledge to help potential adopters find the best fit, and help other rescues looking for wonderful adopters.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] RMM is not funded by tax payers. Their retail items are reasonably priced (maybe too good) and every penny goes to the overhead costs and care of the animals. The choice to rent in a mall is genius! Our community members have a choice and don't have to fall victim to backyard breeders, puppy mills, and pet stores with their outrageous profits and predatory lending. A couple of years ago, I was at the center on a Saturday afternoon volunteering during store hours and helping counsel potential adopters. We received a call from a previous adopter that a family member would be returning a dog they adopted at RMM at 12 weeks old because he said she is a "bad girl". Nancy immediately set up a time for them to bring the pup in that day just prior to closing and I watched as this little dogs heart broke into pieces as her owner for 5 months walked out the door without her. That sweet dog is now part of my family and she is a wonderful girl! She loves everyone and everyone loves her. Is she perfect? Of course not, she's a dog. But our family is so fortunate for her unconditional love for us and her crazy fast fetching style that blows everybody away. So now I have four awesome furkids, three of which I owe to RMM and the rescue partners who brought them to RMM. And four years later, I still volunteer for RMM whenever I can on top of having a full time job and being a single mom to a developmentally disabled teenager. I wanted to share my experience at Rescue Me Marana so others can make informed decisions. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My daughter submitted an adoption application, and after more than 48 hours we had not heard anything.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]My mother stopped by to politely ask about the status of the application. According to her, she was told they were all busy volunteering and no one had time to review applications.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Later, I went to the adoption center with the intention of asking if I could volunteer to help, thinking that maybe additional help would make the process easier.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Before I even mentioned that my mother had been there, Nancy told me she already knew my mother had stopped in. She then told me that because of my mother's visit, she was going to deny my daughter's adoption application.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]As I left the building, Nancy continued yelling at me outside. I have video of that interaction.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'm sharing this because I was disappointed by how the situation was handled. I understand that rescues depend on volunteers and that everyone is busy, but I believe applicants deserve to be treated with professionalism and respect, especially when a child is excited about adopting a pet. I have been volunteering for over a year mostly dog walking and sometimes the cat care. If you are young and live in a walled development home maybe. We are older live in the desert and have a fence - three strikes and we're out on our ear. I don't know the lady's name but she is the obvious BOSS there. We went to them to find another companion for our dog Trixie and met a brick wall every dog that we showed interest in she turned us down ! She said we were too old for a young dog ! Basic age descrimination ! We have A Home in the desert that is fully fenced and secure she had multiple excuses why we could not adopt the dog. We both found her condescending and rude. With Lot of nonsensical excuses . I would not recommend this rescue to anyone that I know unless you enjoy being verbally abused ! read more

My mother began an application here to adopt a dog. She put in an application, went in person, and noted the facility was well taken care of and the animals seemed happy. At the time, we could not start the adoption process because our current dog is recovering from a CCL tear and it would not have been a good idea introducing a new dog at that time when the application was placed (completely understandable). After our current dog's surgery, my mom called in about 6 weeks later to follow up on the application and see if the adoptable dog was still available. The woman at the helm of this issue is named [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nancy, who seems to be their lead volunteer of some sort. When asking for the application to look up the file, she became indignant she had to look up the application and loudly commented "IT WAS SIX WEEKS AGO" as if this was something bad, making my mother uncomfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She then followed up with a question about our current dog's weight and my mother commented it was somewhere between 50-70 lbs but she was not sure entirely and that she had put the info in the application and gave her info in person when visiting. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Instead of trying to work with a potential adopter, Nancy decided to scold my mother saying "How are you thinking of putting two female dogs together, ones with different weight and expecting that to work??"[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My mother was in shock because she was not expecting to be scolded for trying to ask questions or point out the fact she had provided this information before for her to look at the application. Immediately after saying this, [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nancy decided to have the final say and said "I don't have time to deal with you, I am busy with too many other things" and hung up the phone on my mother.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I made a point to call the business and confront her about this, was I rude because I was upset? Probably so! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Was the person representing this business completely out of line in the way she speaks to people without reasonable provocation- ABSOLUTELY![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We understand that there are policies to protect the animals - but this business needs to understand, that people will ask questions, and maybe those questions annoy you because you hear them all the time (I get it, I worked retail), BUT - you do have to deal with people and treat them with respect. [[HIGHLIGHT]]You don't go on a tirade to berate potential adopters and lecture them for their lack of knowledge or questions.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You aren't the arbiter or sole authority on animal welfare. This woman and her histrionics are not a good look for this business or the animals they are supposed to adopt out. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's one thing to screen people - and it's another to scold, berate, lecture, and make people feel bad.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I know I may be passionate but, if you look at other reviews this business has across Yelp and Google, it tells me I am DEFINITELY not paranoid as they back similar sentiments. I just recently got let go from my volunteer job at this place from this volunteer who I felt like Janice she didn't treat me well I kinda of talked too much, I told about her that I am a christian and as a greeter. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I didn't like it when she judges and criticizing me as a Christian, with a disability and as a greeter[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I kinda of said something. I didn't do anything wrong. I just wanted them to get to know me as a Christian and as a church goer. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I felt like she thinks I am not good enough as a volunteer.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I didn't like the way she talks about my disability like that.I do feel hurt, angry, betrayed, rejected and discriminated[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]I had a hard time getting up off the floor when I was cleaning the cat houses for the cats[[HIGHLIGHT]]I feel discriminated as a christian, as a thyroid cancer survivor, who has a disability and as a greeter at church[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I don't like the way they mistreated me because of my disability, as a Christian and it's not right to make fun of me because I am disabled and taking my rights away[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Shame on you. I would never get a job who doesn't support people with disabilities. I am a self advocate for people who have disabilities and I am against discrimination. I would never hurt a cat or mistreated an animal like that. I love all the cats that I have been taking good care. I was so excited when this rescue opened. I have a very high functioning autistic 28 year old son who works very well with animals. I thought this would be a perfect opportunity for my son to serve his community in some way, have fun and get out of the house. I asked Nancy about volunteering and she seemed put off by my son's disability. I thought I could help put her issues at ease by introducing her to my son and showing her that his disability would not get in the way of his volunteering and I would be will him every moment of the time he was at the rescue per her request. She told me to fill out the forms online and she would get back to me. Both my son and I felt she was trying to suggest he volunteer elsewhere but this rescue is a small one and is perfect for his needs. He spent a lot of time there trying to convince her he would be okay helping out there. On our way home, he told me she wouldn't respond to our applications. One more person who only sees a disability and not the person. Sure enough, at the beginning of February I filled out the forms and guess what? No response. Shame on you! You rescue animals but you won't give people with a disability a chance?! It is your loss! My son and I would have been excellent volunteers. I just want people to know that you showed my son no compassion. You looked at him and treated him like he had a contagious disease. You proved once again how rotten people can be when I keep trying to tell him there are good people in the world. I'm sad for you. I hope some day your eyes will open and so will your heart. update, I did hear from organization and even went through volunteer training. after training day I was told I did a very good job and then never heard another word from them. three weeks after my training I sent an email suggesting it would be a nice courtesy if they let people know if they're not really needed. got a response less than professional back. if they treat their animals they way they treat people I feel sorry for the pets. very disorganized and extreme poor communication. I think they need a new volunteer coordinator, one who can keep track of things and actually respond. owners should know what's going on, or maybe they do. read more
