Shelly is the most selfless woman I have ever known. She does what is right for the Rotties and does everything she can to ensure that the adopter and the dog are a suitable fit for each other. She is honest, and sometimes honesty upsets people. But her honesty is what helps keep both people and dogs safe. It's not easy to be in rescue, especially when you can't always give people what they want, but Shelly never quits. I really wish more people understood how difficult rescue is. She genuinely loves these dogs and wants them to go into homes where they will succeed. Not everyone gets approved, but usually that is because the dog they are applying for isn't going to be a good fit for their home. It isn't a personal attack. Placing a large-breed dog that is powerful and intelligent is not as easy as it may sound. If you have never owned a Rottweiler and want to adopt one, Shelly is the person I would trust to tell you honestly whether a Rottie would be a good fit in your home. Rottweilers are very smart, and if they aren't given boundaries, they can become very difficult to handle. Making sure the right dog is placed in the right home is incredibly important. Shelly doesn't make any money from these dogs. I have seen people complain about adoption fees in reviews, and I think it is important to understand where those fees actually go. Many of these dogs take a long time to place, and they cost a lot of money to feed and care for while they are waiting for their homes. There isn't a bank account with unlimited funds in it. The majority of the dogs need medical care and training, and sometimes they need both. The rescue does not receive free veterinary care. They receive a small discount, but the veterinary bills still have to be paid. Adoption fees help recoup some of the cost of caring for that particular dog. When a dog's care costs less than its adoption fee, that additional money goes toward helping cover the cost of another dog whose care may cost five times its adoption fee. This is not a money-making business. There is no money in rescue. This rescue is run out of a genuine love for the breed and a commitment to doing what is best for these dogs. Shelly puts the dogs first, even when doing so means making decisions that people may not always understand or agree with. Yes the application is long and repetitive , yes you have to pay a fee - how else do u think 20 some dogs get fed. We have been to some of their special events and they are awesome! Nobody is more dedicated to finding loving homes for Rotties than Shelly. Our last two rescue dogs came from Rotten Rottie. We brought the first dog into a home with an 8 year old mastiff mix who welcomed the new addition by urinating in his face. We tried to give him back to Shelly fearing that there was no hope for them to get along. Shelly gave us emotional support and practical tips to get through that initial phase and we never looked back. The best rescues around ran by the most amazing people. Don't listen to the bad reviews!! The best things that ever happened to me was getting my application rejected because that forced me to start volunteering with them. I am now a member of the board, have adopted 2 dogs through them, raise money for them, and will do anything for this rescue. It's crazy to me that some people would give a 1 star review because their application got denied! We receive tons of applications and sometimes you just aren't the right fit. It happened to me and i didn't cry about it and try to ruin the reputation of the rescue. Shelly has done more for the breed that anyone else in the state of Arizona and maybe even in the entire United States. She has devoted her life to helping these dogs and you attack her and the rescue because you got denied. I have been going to our weekly pack walks for the past 5 years and have never seen any of the people who leave bad reviews show up once. Just a few weeks ago we had to put our Rottweiler, CoCo down. She had bone cancer. We were hoping to adopt MONA. Could have been a very happy situation for us to have her with out other 3 dogs. Pretty sure this application process is a scam to get donations. We saw a puppy last Thursday and had to pay $20 for the application. We had to give ages, financials and vet info, which we did. We lost our family dog last September and it took us awhile but finally decided to share the love with another pup. We got a text this weekend stating the Shelly's client how had already adopted 3 dogs with her, was given the puppy. I was wondering if she had decided on an existing client, why was the puppy listed for applications? So I went back to her site and found the puppy still listed and accepting applications. Checked again today and the puppy is still listed. How many people are being taken for that $20 with no chance of getting that puppy? read more

This group is blatantly ageist. Nobody over 60 should adopt one of their dogs?? Really?? My sister is 65 and a CrossFit athlete and a marathon runner. She has dogs and is stronger than most 20 year olds. But she's not good enough for this group. The ageism is right on their web page, loud and proud. I don't know how they get away with it! I guess no one has sued them yet. In addition they demand people have grass yards. Hey, this is Arizona! It's the desert!! So people with responsible landscaping are not allowed to adopt either. This group is an absolute joke and they straight up drive people to go to breeders. Rescues like this are why breeders are in business! People try to do the right thing by adopting a rescue but this group turns good people away. They really make me sick. Shelley is a very rude person as well. If she rejects you and you try to plead your case, she gets verbally abusive. They scam people with their application fees! Great dogs to choose from but unless you are exactly what the owner believes is a good dog owner you stand no chance getting one of these dogs. Just a 25 year old that just purchased his first home and finally feels I can provide a dog a good life. Lived in apartments before and refused to get a dog because I did not want a dog to live that life. I have had dogs my whole life but was judged off the answers on the application. Was my application perfect of course not but they never even gave me the chance to meet a dog in the rescue. No need to drop any names just read the other reviews. I love what they are trying to do just not handling it in a professional/fair manner. I just saw a few other reviews about Shelly. Take note that every time someone puts a bad review on her she then turns it around and makes them the bad person. I believe she is a con artist that squeezes as much money as she possibly can out of these dogs she gets for free. When I met with her I did not see a person that was in love with animals by any means. Since my First post on here I have had five different couples contact me through my email address telling me just how terrible she treated them. I am happy to say that those people have now found proper breeders in the area. Do not be deterred by her words, not everyone that breeds Rottweilers is the enemy. So after filling out the (long) application and paying the fee to adopt a puppy, we were notified in less than 24 hours by a form email that our application was denied. We have had Rottie's for over 40 years, live on 8 acres of land, one of us is retired and we are financially secure. What was Shelly's reason denying our application? Because we lived in New River and she didn't want to (possibly) have to drive that far (Gilbert), if we didn't follow her rules. I happened to find Rotten Rottie Rescue through the website when I was looking to adopt a Rottweiler back in January (They have all ages, but only one color of this model!!). I have had several Rottweillers in the past, so I knew what I was looking for. I first called Shelley, and spoke with her for almost 30 minutes about my background and what I was looking for. She asked that I fill out an application. She then followed up via email and gave me a lengthy explanation, background and pictures of the 3-4 dogs that best fit my lifestyle. She did say that one, was almost a perfect match, and of course she was correct! (Tessa, 6 yo female!) We met the dog at the foster family house, and arranged for a home inspection 2 days later, and we had our girl!! Since then, I have fostered 4 different dogs for Rotten Rottie Rescue, and have helped with transport. I have fostered for anywhere from 12 hours to 60 days, and the experience is incredibly rewarding. Even for 12 hours, Shelley arranged for food and a crate! We first contacted Rotten Rottie Rescue to foster a rottie. We loved the breed and wanted to help, but we wanted to make sure the rottie we foster would get a along with our current rottie, Samson, and our ten-year-old son at the time. Shelly was careful to select a rottie that would do well in our environment. We met Shelly on neutral territory to introduce Samson to Thor. Thor was a very scared and untrusting boy who showed this through aggression. Shelly brought Dave from Empowered K9 (who is amazing at what he does) to assist with the introduction. After a long, intense session, these two ended up riding home together in the back seat. Once home, Shelly ensured we had everything we needed to foster Thor - a bed, crate, food, collar, leash, treats and toys. She was very responsive to our questions and gave great advice. She had Thor neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. When Thor saw her, you knew he just loved her! There was a potential adopter for Thor, and we were afraid he would be adopted. When Shelly told us he was not adopted, we were elated and knew we had to have Thor as a permanent member of our family. So, we were foster failures, and adopted Thor! Today, almost a year later, Samson and Thor are best of friends. We could not imagine our family without him. He is a happy, playful, loving pup - and I say pup because he never had the chance to be a puppy and now he is a 140-pound puppy! He is truly the sweetest most loving soul. I know we are thankful for each other, and I can't imagine the life he would have had if it weren't for Shelly. We continue to support Shelly and her organization as best we can through donations or volunteering. She holds socialization and fundraising events that are extremely well done. I was wanting to visit some pups, possibly adopting one. So I drove over expecting to see a animal shelter. Instead I see a residential area, As I get closer to the address I see a Rottweiler a few houses down unattended taking a poo in a person yard. I see a different person going to get the pup from a different home. I assumed it was their pup. As I get to the address, its a home with the front door wide open. I knocked, no answer. I rang the doorbell and you can hear Alexa throughout the home saying someone is at the door. No answer. I hear someone approaching me from behind and see its that same person I saw earlier with the pup saying the it belongs here. So I and a neighbor were standing there knocking and banging on the door for about 15-20 min with no answer. We called the police to check it out as its very awkward situation. So we were starting to walk away and get into some shade when people magically appeared and claimed they were in the back yard. I think they are full of shit. We recently adopted a Rottie from this rescue. We have been active in the rescue for a while waiting for the right fit for our family. The owner knows more about Rottweiler's than anyone I have ever met and her love for the breed truly shows. I previously read reviews about the adoption process being long and difficult... I think that is because the owner works so hard to ensure these dogs are going into appropriate homes and matches the dog with the family's needs. I adopted my baby Titan through Rotten Rottie Rescue on July 4th of 2011 they were awesome Shelly was very helpful and knowledgeable and offered me all the information I could possibly need to address any training he might need and any issues that he might have from having been a stray and mistreated. He has grown into an enormous boy 31 inches tall at the shoulder and 175 pounds of muscle, healthy as a horse ,strong as an ox and a huge part of our life. Titan has overcome having valley fever which is a very very long bout of liquid medication twice a day everyday and he was so patient and tolerant and he came out the other side just fine. He is the sweetest kindest most loving dog I've ever had and I've had dogs all my life. I give Shelly a lot of credit for the way she treated him immediately after rescuing him.she taught him he could trust again and then when he came to me he bonded like super glue. My family cannot say enough great things about Rotten Rottie Rescue. As long-time Rottie lovers, we'd been looking for ways to help the breed. We first got involved with the rescue in January of 2013, when we had decided to bring another dog into our home- but wanted one that NEEDED a home. We filled out a thorough (understandably so) application, and also went through a home check, where they made sure our home was the right place for a second dog- it also gave the opportunity to meet our other Rottie, and judge his temperament. Shelly worked with us personally to find the right dog for our home. In June 2013, after following the rescue's facebook page, I noticed the rescue needed an emergency foster home for a sweet boy on the edge of being put down for no good reason. My husband and I, although hesitant, volunteered. Shelly brought everything we needed- food, a crate, his medicine, everything. It didn't stop there- she supported us through the first week (with 3 rotts in the house), set up a special training session with Dave at Empowered K9 to whip Romeo into adoptable shape, and even sponsored a huge adoption event at her home that included 50 calm rotties in one space! Shelly cares about the welfare of every single dog she brings into her rescue; it's clear that every single dog knows it, too, as evidenced by the pure love and excitement they all show when they see her again. Completely shut us down in adopting a second dog into our home because of my illness and not being able to guarantee that I could walk a dog on a daily basis due to that illness. I have a German Shepherd (now 2 GSDs), who do just fine without being walked daily because we play ball in the backyard, do command training, puzzle toys, etc. They get plenty of mental stimulation and exercise without me physically having to walk them daily. Unfortunately this rescue missed out on one of their dogs having a terrific home, but we adore our second GSD, so their loss was our gain. read more

This rescue does amazing work for the breed. We love them! RRR saves dogs from poor living conditions or euthanasia by taking in and rehabilitating the lost, sick, injured or mistreated rotties. We support this rescue financially and through volunteerism. They advocate tirelessly for the breed. RRR thoroughly screens applicants before allowing adoption to ensure the living conditions are optimal for their rescues. We were thoroughly screened, including a home visit, by RRR before we could adopt our dog 3 years ago. This process was absolutely necessary to ensure that we knew the characteristics, healthcare and exercise needs, training requirements, and were financially secure enough to adopt and take proper care of this large breed. Rotties are not for everyone. RRR makes sure you are a good fit with your dog. Thank you to RRR for educating us on the needs of our dog and for setting us up for a lifetime of love and companionship with our "little" Buddy. RRR is amazing! Shelly does her best making sure that the dogs are well taken care of. We rented our home in STV and didn't have a problem rescuing Sparky! The questions regarding finances are for a reason. Sparky has allergies and is constantly going to the vet for his medications however it didn't start until he was probably a year old. Properly taking care of an animal isn't just about "giving it a roof and some dog food", the questions the rescue asks is making sure that the dog is going to have adequate care in the future. The fee for adoption helps ensure that the rescue can help other dogs. Instead of getting a call in a few months and having to once again rip the dog out of its environment, questions are asked to ensure that doesn't happen. Instead of basing your decision of the rescue on your 10 minute opinion, maybe get out and volunteer on "Thursday Night Pack Walks" and other events to see what goes on behind the scenes and also let the rescue know you. read more

I have had nothing but problems with Rotten Rotty Rescue, first I wanted to adopt a dog and they told me I had to take a different dog, that the one I wanted was taken. I found out later it was not. Then I fostered a dog that was suppose to be picked up on a certain date and was never picked up. Shelly is a very bad dog person, only interested in the money and not the dogs. I would recommend staying with the Humane Society for honest treatment. read more

I adopted a Rotti from Rotten Rottie Rescue in December. They had me fill out a very thorough application, then came to my home and did a walk through of my place to make sure I could provide a good home for a dog. This process took less than 5 days, and they were very professional. Shortly after that I got a call that they had found a dog that fit the criteria I had asked for (yes, you can tell them you need a dog that is good with cats or other dogs, etc.). That evening I met Finn McCool (formerly called Kane), and he became a part of my family. Finn had his shots and they had gotten him neutered, so I knew my new pup was in good shape. Rotten Rotti Rescue has e-mailed me periodically to make sure everything is going well for Finn and for me. They always offer to help if I need it (they have resources for dog trainers if you need one). This is a wonderful dog rescue group. Please do not believe the reviews from people that call Rotten Rottie Rescue a 'joke'. Those people need to understand that these dogs are RESCUED from intolerable circumstances. The questionnaire, is thorough and yes, it takes some time to fill out. There is a reason for all those questions. They are not discriminatory. They are factual and ask important things about your lifestyle. Quite frankly, if you can't or don't want to answer the questions, or feel like you are discriminated against, don't apply. Rottweilers are discriminated against every day. They are misunderstood and treated cruelly because of the reputation created by those that should not handle them. Shelly is only doing what is right for the dogs. She does not want them to go thru the terrifying experience of losing their home again. If you are looking to adopt a Rottweiler, you should be willing and able to take the time and put forth the effort to show that you are capable of handling one. Shelly has saved over 750 dogs. I can not even give a star...well, Yelp wouldn't accept this without 1 star - but I would give them minus stars! I am hoping whoever is looking for a dog from this rescue will read this review and know that one of her rescue dogs, Katie killed my 15 year old Yorkie-poo that was just going to the bathroom in her own yard. The owner was outside and has another Rottweiler - Katie ran into our yard, totally unprovoked and viciously killed my dog. The owner had no control of the dog and they tore my little dog apart. I called animal control and since my dog was not on a leash - even though she was 10 feet from the front door and I was standing near by there is nothing they said they can do. The owner had been told he needed to return the dog to Shelly during the first year. She told my husband that she was "rehabilitating" the dog, and if it passed, which it looked like it would, she would again adopt this dog out. Our concern is for any other innocent family that would deal with this dog. Our Vet told us that he was sure this dog had attacked before (which we found out that he had broken through a screen door and run after a dog before) since the reward was in the kill. Please do not support this rescue. Reading other reviews some describe Shelly as not a very nice person - this is the side of her that my husband talked to. We feel the dog needs to be put down - I was standing near by with my 2 month old Granddaughter and thank God the dog didn't go after me... it happened so fast - my dog wasn't running to have attention drawn to her - she was just a slow moving 15 year old that didn't have good vision or hearing and I am sure she was as shocked as we were. We are looking at this as our little dog was the sacrificial lamb - we had no idea there was a dog with this temperament living next door. We have other small dogs in the neighborhood and other Grandkids in the streets - thank God this dog didn't go after the babies. There are too many nice dogs to rescue ... especially ones that don't have the ability to do such harm. We are trying to go forward with this with the police and I hope to put something on her website to let people know how irresponsible Shelly is acting by possibly adopting this dog killer dog out again. read more
