10/9/24 Well my trash was spilled a few weeks ago and a Republic Services Business Manager contacted me and said if I emailed them my location information they would make it up to me. Horrible time restarting service after a vacation hold. Because I was gone more than 3 weeks, they took my cans and told me to call upon my return to restart service and have my cans returned, no charge. I could have given them a date then but they did not want a date until I called upon my return. This cannot be taken care of adequately on line so I have now wasted over 3 hours,speaking to a total of 7 people to restart service and return my cans,-still no luck. I keep getting promises,hearing excuses and even claiming that "someone" called and cancelled the cans. Yet they also claim my service has been restarted and will be billed as of 4/8, and as of today, 4/13/26,I am still without cans or pickup service. I do not want anything more than my 3 cans returned and I demand an adjustment on charging me for a service that I have not received. What am I supposed to do with the food waste that is now rotting in bags. If I put them on the deck, the wild animals will rip the open and create a mess for both me and my neighbors. The garage will attract rodents and ants- this is terrible service for a customer that has never missed a bill. I can't believe that a company this large can be so inept in solving what should be, a pretty simple customer service problem. I'm turning to my City and County for help. The Republic services driver missed our Blue (Recycle container) Pick-up last Thursday, "Driver Didn't pick-up the whole block" I called the office and the person said they would send out a driver, By Friday 5 Pm. This is Monday Morning and we are still waiting for our Thursday Pick-up. This happened the week prior and they did pick-up By Friday !at 5 pm. Not a very efficient way to run a company ! read more

It sucks that we can't pick our garbage service. You have to go with the one the city provides, which is this awful service. They went on strike for 2 weeks. We get it - you have to strike, we're not complaining. But we got our bill - and it was the full bill. Why are we paying for your strike? When I called when the strike was resolved, I wanted to make sure we were not going to get charged for the two weeks these people were on strike. I got a "beat-around-the-bush" answer. Of course. Because we are paying for their strike? Why are people okay with this? Not acceptable at all. I called again today and got the run around about how "cities were meeting." Who cares? Take off the two weeks we didn't have service, that simple. She said maybe we'll see it on the next bill. If it's not, I'll just take it off myself. I'm not paying for their strike. And to top it off there was an extra 12.91 charge for an "Extra Can, Bag or Box" Look at my photo. Eight inches above the top of the garbage can. Two small bags. They're charging us 12.91 extra for that. We've had a little extra garbage in our can many times without issue. It's never overflowing - it's maybe a little bit higher that it won't but it's not even that much and if I wanted to I could crush it enough that it would close - I didn't know this was an issue. $12.91 for this. WTF? What an absolutely scummy company. EDIT: I have been informed by a lawyer to contact the PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION and the city Republic has a contract with (your city). I did and the PUC says they don't handle this stuff and my city, like Republic, doesn't care. If anyone else has any other options please let me know. read more

The bill for ALL of your customers needs to be adjusted... We the customer(s), are paying for a service you are no longer providing. When you resume service, then you can resume your billing. Giving the option to drop off bags at your station is not part of the contract. Most of us have to leave the house before the drop off station is open and get back home after the station is already closed. Keeping bags in my property for you to pick up at a later date does not sit well with raccoons, opossums, rats and other wild life. What about your disable customers? How do you want them to take care of the extra bags? read more

Scheduled a Xmas tree pickup almost 2 weeks ago, was told they'd pick it up on Monday as part of normal trash collection. I ask if I need to cut the tree to a smaller size or do anything else with it, am told "no, that's what you're paying extra for." On Monday they empty the bins but don't pick up the tree. I call them, they say they'll pick up on Wednesday. Wednesday comes and goes, tree is again just sitting there on the curb. I call again to ask what's going on and this time am told that the tree needs to be under 6 feet or else they might not pick it up (which the first customer service rep said specifically was NOT required and which is not mentioned on the website), and they'll pick up Friday. So I cut the top off the tree. Friday comes. At 4:45 pm I call to tell them no one has shown up (6 am to 5 pm is the window they gave) and am told they'll pass a message to their supervisor to have a crew pick up the tree by 6 pm. It's Saturday morning and the tree is still there. Why offer this service if you're not going to do it, FOUR different times? I've had to drag the tree back and forth to my side yard every time because I don't want the tree blocking parking or just sitting in my front yard for days. read more

They regularly miss our pickup and then act like it's no big deal when we call about it. And I just saw on the news that these incompetent fools want to strike for more money. How is it possible to consistently be so bad? They offer schedule bulk pick up. When you schedule it, they won't pick up if things are a little off. The bags are supposed to be a certain size. 35G is the limit, good forbid if a couple of bags are 40G, they won't take anything. Then, it has to be right next to trash. 15 bags right next to trash, can't be 6 feet away on the other side of the driveway. Nope! This is the second week in the row they haven't taken bulk pick up. No one calls you. You have to call to know what was wrong this time. Meanwhile, the prices consistently go up. If your lid is open even a little bit, there's an extra charge. Of course, what can people do, they have a monopoly. Perfect example of why we need more competition. It's run so poorly offering no service. Drivers are rude and people on phone talk to you like they're paying you and you're not doing your job! read more

Since moving to Richmond, CA. I've had a horrible experience with this company. Along with it being overpriced, numerous times they haven't picked up my trash or recycling on the scheduled days. Even worse, when I call them to say they missed my pickup, they say they'll come the next day. But of course they never come. But here's the worst, there has been at least 4 times where they literally leave the trash from the bins on the street. I'm not too sure if it's overflow from their truck, the machine doesn't pickup the bins properly etc. It's absolutely disgusting. It's so bad, my neighbors and I had to call the City to enforce them to not leave trash on the street. These people have horrible customer service, overcharge because they CAN. Let me first state that if I had the ability to leave 0 stars, I would do so. There is no accountability for their trash collectors. Many times, the trash is picked up 2-3 days late with no notice. When they do come, often times they leave trash on the street and don't bother to pick it up. Residents of Richmond see this as normal and not able to do anything about it. When we call to complain to Republic Services, they write a ticket and say a supervisor will call. They never call. When we complain about getting a credit for a trash collection that happened 4 days after the original pick-up date, they say no. The reasoning is because they came out to pick up the trash after you complained. Thats false logic. In any other industry, they would refund money for services not rendered. There are no "f"s given by this organization and they clearly don't care about the community they are servicing. If I could 0 stars I would. I am a new resident of an area Republic Services "serves." They say they are dedicated to serving our community but all they do is MISS trash pick up days, and when we call to ask what happens we are gaslit that they are coming 2-3 days after our allocated pick up day and missing pick up days does not justify a credit. WHEN they pick up our trash, they leave trash in our streets. I've called about this too, only for Jessica or Maria (the customer service team members who I've had the pleasure of speaking to) to tell me the men who pick up the trash weekly have brooms and are suppose to use them if trash ends up in the street. I work from home and have never seen a broom used once when / if they pick up on the correct trash day for my location. I've come home after trash pick up to see trash all over our street. I have photos and videos with time stamps as my car records everything. Additionally, when I call and ask about when trash is picked up and if we can get a credit for the 3-4 days missed, I get told a supervisor will call me back. Days pass and I never get a call from any supervisor. I call back only to be told there was never any note in my file for a supervisor to call me. They not organized and clearly do not care about the community. So much work for someone who is PAYING for a service. Let's not talk about how their auto pay does not work and they consistently try to tack on late fees for the crappy service they provide. I lived in Berkeley, I lived in Albany and those cities would never allow this but my city has a ridiculous 20 year contract with republic services so they can pretty much do whatever they want. It's very disappointing that we as customer pay for a service that is NOT SERVICED AS CONTRACTED. It's crystal clear the employees of Republic Services from the leadership to the people on the group who literally are responsible for keeping our community clean do not care at all about us. I've never been disappointed in the quality of service from top to bottom as I am in this company. Unfortunately the rest of the block seems to just accept it as normal. Updated credit card information via telephone call with customer service. As a result, Republic Service missed trash pick up three times in one month. Drive trash to dump myself. Called every week and inquired about trash pick up. After the third failed trash pick up, called customer service (three days in a row) and asked when garbage can would be emptied? Some cans were emptied and one was not- left full. Every day during the customer service phone call, I was assured the trash would be picked up same day or in the morning of next day. Staff are friendly and drivers are courteous but their website cannot handle UI or new information. read more

Nearly every week, at least one of our bins doesn't get picked up and we have to call to request a pickup, and we're never told why it wasn't picked up in the first place. No explanation. Now, we're dealing with a neighbor putting styrofoam into our recycling bin. I personally found it and removed it before pick-up, but Republic is alleging we still have styrofoam in our bins (just checked, we don't!) and won't pick up our recycling. It became clear in our last conversation with customer service that the drivers are claiming the styrofoam is in our bins (spoiler, it's NOT. It's in our neighbors' bins, and they DID get their bins emptied). We're being penalized for what someone else did. I have to think this type of contamination is a pretty common occurrence in waste management, but most everyone we've spoken to at Republic has acted completely incredulous that this can happen. A positive shoutout to Bianca at customer service who was more compassionate and helpful than anyone we've spoken with. That said, we still have no resolution from this company. We would work with someone else if we could, but our hands are tied in this neighborhood. read more

It disgusts me that there is no choice in who provides this service. Their service is non existent. What happened to the driver actually getting off his rear end to move a cart if need be, when we actually got the service we paid for. You service areas with a lack of parking - and residents have no control of how surrounding neighbors park because its a public parking scenario. Really not satisfified with their Bulb Pickup service. Comparing to Waste Management in San Leandro, Republic Services only pick up limit to 3 bulky items and charged in a high price for additional bulky items. After scheduling a bulky pickup, there is no confirmation number or confirmation email sent. It is not professional at all. Really wish if Richmond city can switch to a better company to service residence. Without competition, companies lower their service level to the minimum. read more

Anyone else being over-charged by these crooks? I had to change my credit card number due and one auto-payment was late. Now I'm told I over three times my monthly due amount. This company is terrible. It's such a disgrace that it's the only available option for our trash and recycling in Richmond. They are unreliable and do not do their jobs. It's impossible to dispose of anything even when sorted the way they request. Even though they say they are open till 5 PM, they will not take anything beyond 3:30 PM. We were gone over New Year's and our neighbors were out as well. I didn't know what to do about missing our Monday pick up. I didn't want to put our cans at the curb and irritate our other neighbors (and alert the universe that we were gone), so I pulled the cans up to our car parked in the driveway and hoped that someone would put them out Monday, or that the Republic would do it. By God, they picked up the trash and put the cans back. I don't see a whole lot of love being sent Republic's way, and in this situation they deserve it. It's not an easy job, particularly around the holidays, and I think they do a pretty credible job. read more

Absolutely ridiculous awful service company, twice in 2 months they miss pickup my brown garbage bin in front of my house , they pick up my blue recycle bin early morning but the brown one they didn't, when I called them next morning,, the operator said that maybe i didn't put the garbage out early enough , then she said they have to charge me extra for coming back to my house to pick it up, Are you kidding me? WTF...They want more money for not picking my garbage bin??? I called to get new service 2 weeks ago and until today have not been able to get the recycling and waste bin. Called customer service first time they did not come in was told by Friday. On Friday a very nice driver told me they were all out of the green and blue container called back same day they promised this week. Called today that hopefully next week. read more

As a 30 plus year customer, I'm have seen the decline of services provided by Republic Services. It takes all day, often late afternoon for service to be completed. As with previous years there was a pattern followed to pick up garbage and other containers, now it haphazard. Neighbor across street pick up completed morning other side up to 4 pm. I've had to follow the truck to remind driver pick up was missed. Containers that are over-filled when picked up leave trash on the street. Today my garbage container was not picked up followed truck driver said container was between cars. I placed container on street either street collectors or recycle truck pushed container close to car. Pick up trash in a timely manner and this would not be an issue. read more

I have used Republic Services for almost 20 years and for the most part haven't had a problem, but recently, things have changed as far as customer service. It started a couple of years ago when I changed to autopay. I asked to make sure if my next bill was on autopay, and they said it was ready to go. When I received my next bill, it said I didn't pay and there was a penalty for it. I told them I switched to autopay and they said it may take two months to start. Well, I told them about my call to their customer service, but they didn't take the charge off. Then recently, I saw on my bill two extra bin charges so I called about that and they said if garbage is above the rim of the container, it's an extra charge. I said I've done this as many of my neighbors have and haven't ever been charged. She said it's up to the driver and it's stated on the back of the statement. I said if you're going to change policies or going to start enforcing these so called violations, you have to let your customers know about it with a note, otherwise how are we to know these things?! I received an invoice today for "Extra can, Bag or box" from Republic. I called them; I never ordered any extra can or placed any extra box or can. The lady who answered said the brown can was overflowed and that's the reason for the extra charge. We are two in this home and I never "overflowed" any can. She raised her voice saying it was. I mentioned it could have been the wind lifting the cap. The she yelled NO! NO! NO!. I snapped and told her this is not a ghetto, I was not her husband, and yelling at a customer is disgusting. Yelling does not prove anything other than making it obvious that you are a bully. Snap a picture with date and that is your proof. I don't have to believe republic We live in a pandemic time, with hot tempered, bullies and disrespectful people all around. We all know and see it every day. But not from a big company like Republic. They are a monopoly, they have no competition and don't care about customer service. Disgusting. Terrible service, that i have to say. I never got mad at anyone before like how i got mad at these sales rep people to order dumpster. I placed order for a 20 yards dumpster 4 times, never a single time they process my order and made me sign the contract 4 times and they still said that i never sign contract even i have email confirmation of my contract form. Then they would trying to avoid their mistake and said it their sale rep fault and tell me to contact sales rep and they would not give me any information of the sale person that helped with my order to contact them except email them and they have never respond the email. I then asked for their supervisor, then and lady name "Khy" said she was a relationship representative "she would not give out her real name as she said it confidential to give out her name" and kept on and on about it not their fault to not place the container at the site. My business hurt so much for those 4 times fault promised that container would be at the site, and when i ask them what wrong, all she said was the order never process, and never admit that their mistake. My boss had to paid those 4 times hired 5 temp workers to help clean out the stuffs. I have all the evident of signed contract 3 times with them and I also prepaid for the container, and had a confirmation email that i had sign the contract, but she would not want to listen to me, and still said you never sign :( This kind of attitude can not tolerate as to run a business, they can not conduct their business base on lies and SCAM with straight face. There is no one you can talk to to resolve the problems, not supervisor , no phone direct to the sale person that placed an order, the only thing they have is that person email and they never ever respond, when I email and ask them where is my container that i placed an order and paid for. Republish Services, you should not hire people like that to conduct your business, because of their lies and SCAM, you guys really hurt someone else business. This company is the worse. They always miss can pick ups. They can pick up the house in front of mine but it seems too difficult to grab mine because they are in the opposite side. It has been happening since we moved here. Every time I call they say they will come the next business day and don't. I believe it only happened once in 3 years. I have waisted so much time and energy calling customer service. Always get the same runaround. I hate this company. Yelp really need to add the no starts options so that companies can start to loose even more points on their average. If you are having issues it seems like the best thing to do is file a complaint with the city manager. I have spoken with "supervisors" and nothing changes. The only thing that seems to change is their service the constantly get worse. Even the on the days that my trash gets picked up the can are always dragged away or tossed all over they always leave more of a mess behind. Every time your trashed is missed document with photos/or videos and try reporting through the online "missed pickup portal" as you will get a confirmation email so that you have record on how many times this is happening. Amazing company always does their job, clean and tidy. Do what they ask of you, put cans on curb three feet apart and never have a problem. Trash in brown can, green waste in green can and all recyclables in blue can. Wish other garbage company were like these guys...never had a problem. read more

I called to upgrade my garbage bin to a larger size, was never explained what the process involves, so when I asked I was told I didn't have to do anything different on collection day. On collection day the bin was not collected, so I called again and spoke to a Mary who was very snobby, I gave her the address, she said the service was cancelled, I told her I'd been living at this address for 5 years, she typed in the address wrong. Real winner here. I was then told that a different driver would make the switch, and that I should leave the bin at the curb. I left the bin at the curb all day but no switch was made. I called again for the third time, Mary was there again, I gave her the address, again she said my service had been canceled, I repeated the address, she said they would be out on Thursday during regular collection day to get me another 35 gallon garbage bin... So I told her that yesterday, Tuesday, was regular collection day, that I didn't want another 35 G bin, but to switch my 35 G bin to a 65 G bin. She said she would see if a supervisor could make the switch today. read more

Horrible company. Really bad customer service. They charge $100 for 3 months of service. The most expensive I have ever seen. We have had the same bins for 13 years. They really needed to be replaced. They stunk! I tried cleaning them really good but they just needed to be replace. They wanted to charge $70 extra dollars to "swap" with cleaner bins. Not new bins but "cleaner" bins. Pretty pathetic. Absolutely ridiculous. I don't mind paying a service charge but come on $70 are you insane? I was told this was their "policy".
