I've used them for 6 years for my small office. Started off at $80 month for trash and recycling, now is $700 / month. They auto renew you (Legal in mass) every 3 years, so your stuck paying or buying out of the contract. Amazingly, when I called to terminate service ( which is an endeavor in itself) I was offered $80 a month again! This of course would only increase back up to $700 in 6 years again due to the details of the contract that allow for small incremental changes month by month. Now that I have finally rid myself of this horrific company, I am about to go into collections for a bill I received for the month of service after my account was closed. I don't even have the dumpsters anymore, and I am billed for pickup services. This as a perfect example of unethical dealings from a company that likely overbills large corporations that don't care and squeeze every little cent out of small companies and residential customers. Wish that I could give zero stars. Over the past 2 years, Republic has had the worst customer service I've ever seen. They rarely pick up trash on the scheduled day. I usually had to call to schedule a missed pickup since they just did not show up. This would result in my trash being at the curb for days, if not a full week. Sometimes, they never came until the next pickup (2 weeks later). I finally called to cancel and scheduled a bin pick up. They did not show up on the scheduled day to pick up the bins, so I had to call to reschedule. They've finally picked up the bins but are charging me $80 for bin pick up. I've called 4x to complain about this excessive fee (which was not disclosed when I cancelled and I was not given an opportunity to drop the bins off). They were supposed to call me back after 2 of the 4 phone calls, but no response. Find a different trash provider! Republic Recycling dropped 4 large recycling bins at my residential property; I did NOT request them. As it turns out, they had the incorrect address on the order -- yet still threatened to charge me for bins I neither ordered nor used? On my own, I determined who the correct recipient of the bins should have been (a commercial construction project in my community) and the customer actually picked up the bins -- not Republic. Run, don't walk away from this company. We have been a customer for 15 years. No problems. Over the last four months they started coming whenever they felt like it. Then, not coming until we called. Then not coming at all over the last month despite calling. They are sorry, they will be there tommorow . Nope. Trash still at the end of my driveway for a month now. To anyone looking for a trash service, when I say "stay away" please heed my warning. I paid this company up front and in full when I first bought my new home, (there were and still are a ton of trash companies that I could have and still can use) but I chose Republic because the previous owner recommended them and I figured "meh trash pick up is trash pickup". There has been nothing but issues with this company, and trying to get things rectified is beyond a joke, I have called them 5 times in the last 3 weeks, had my case "escalated" spoke to "supervisors" and I'm now going on my FOURTH week without my trash being picked up. I have FOUR weeks of trash on my front lawn.....my bill is paid, I have no outstanding balances...and all they can tell me is "due to unforeseen circumstances we were unable to pick up that route.......1 week I can understand.....2 weeks is vexing....but 4 weeks and no answer? Unacceptable. I was lied to 3 times being told my trash would be picked up the night of the phone call (it wasn't) I was told they would expedite a truck to my area (they did not) and I am still left with my garbage on my front lawn with no resolution in sight. Once I get this squared away I will be cancelling my account with Republic, I will hop on Twitter, and speak with my friend who writes for the local paper and ensure no one else within 20 miles of my home use this company for their trash services. And on a side note.....I have a very large driveway and I always ensure to put my trash inside my buckets and drag it to the curb.....one day I came home and my buckets were both missing.....after some research I get a rude phone call telling me the truck drivers "took my buckets because I never put my trash inside them so they assumed I didn't need them". Let that passive aggressive move sit in your mind for a second....I paid for those buckets and I ALWAYS put my trash in them.....and they took them back because the driver was too lazy to pick up the overflow bags (which I paid for and have a statement for) then stole my buckets out of spite. I have spent so much time calling in and escalating missed pickups. I had recycling out 3 weeks in a row and they didn't pick it up. Spent long amount of time on 2 phone calls for them to actually get it together and come pick it up last week. THEN, the regular trash truck didn't pick up the same week! Here we go again, I had to call and escalate ANOTHER missed pickup. They promised they would send the truck by end of the following day. But, nope, still nothing. Then was told I had a refund check being mailed back to me only to find out the charges for removal of the trash containers magically totaled the exact amount of my proposed refund check of just under $90. I just moved into a house where the owner had Republic Trash services and they still haven't retrieved their trash cans from my property. I've called 3 times and submitted a claim through their website with no success. I'm going to try to get them to pick up their cans one more time and then I'm going to ask them to pick up their cans in the woods because that's where I'm going to throw them. Terrible, unreliable service in my experience. Most of my pickups are cancelled. My recycling pickups have been canceled for six weeks. They keep telling me that they will come back on my next scheduled pickup day, but then they cancel that pickup too. I find their call center to be useless. The people that I speak with don't have the authority to fix the problem. The people with the authority to fix the problem do not return my calls. I wish I could rate zero stars. read more

I never leave bad reviews publicly but after 4 days on hold for over 45 minutes each time I've had enough. Our pick up day is Monday each week. We received (yet another) call that our driver was "backed up" and couldn't get to our home for our trash. (This happens at least 2 times each month). They then stated they would be here Tuesday. I called, sat on hold for 45 minutes and was assured it would be picked up on Wednesday. Same thing Wednesday. Same thing Thursday. Oh and same thing Friday (the beginning of a Holiday weekend), so our trash won't be picked up until Tuesday. They "simply didn't have anyone near us." Republic is located 2 towns over from us soooo, in order to not lose a customer (who's been with them for over 10 years) one would think they would make it work. Again, this is not the first time this has happened with them and this was just the final straw. Do yourself a favor and save hours upon hours on the phone and go with a local company that cares about service. read more

The absolute worst service. Every Thursday pick up and it is always a mystery if they will show. They are really good at cashing checks and collecting money. They never forget that. Terrible service; constantly miss pickups. We have called several times and customer service is located in PHX AZ and has no interest in resolving issues. Three separate times we have asked to speak to a supervisor and are told they will call us - they never do. I highly recommend not to use this service for your trash pickup - highly aggravating experience. 19 Mar 2018 I did receive a call today from a nice gentleman who explained that they have been experiencing some truck issues and along with the weather this has caused some of the pickup issues. He has assured me that a game plan is in place to improve service; I look forward to seeing the improved results. 04 Apr 2018 Despite multiple phone calls and assurances from local Republic team our trash was not picked up again. Not surprising we just paid our bill and there was no discount for the poor service and associated inconvenience. We called the main office but were told they didn't know why our trash won't be picked up but that it certainly won't be picked up this week. We are in the process of choosing a new trash service and will be ending our relationship with Republic Services as soon as possible. Edited 12/10/20 - Based on my original review, I was contacted by a representative of the company who got me in touch with a local account manager from my town who within a few days was able to resolve the situation. I wanted to give them a second chance and continue using them for my construction project, however the company closed/deactivated my account so I can't request another dumpster from them. When I called them, they said they can no longer service this location. They did resolve the charges in my favor, however, so I'm bumping this review from 1-star to 2-star. --------- Unbelievably bad! I'm doing a house renovation in Revere, MA and got a 30 yard dumpster in the driveway. In early September I scheduled a pickup online and the system generated the wrong pickup date (it was off by a few days). I needed a pickup the next day and not a few days in the future so I called customer service to correct that. Then the pickup came as I requested on the phone but they took away the dumpster AGAIN on the date that was generated by their faulty website (the customer service person instead of rescheduling the request, he created another request without cancelling the original one)! I noticed the container was gone at 7.05 am so it just must have been picked up, so I called customer service to try to reach the driver to bring back the container because it was essentially EMPTY. They refused saying "they can't contact the driver". I spoke with a rep who said they would bring a container back and that I shouldn't be charged for an unscheduled pickup of an empty container. They brought another container the following morning. After a few weeks when the container was maybe just a quarter full, they showed up at the property saying they gave me the wrong container that belonged to another company (??), and they needed to swap it for one of theirs. I said ok as long as I'm not charged for it. Then I got charged for BOTH pickups that I DID NOT REQUEST! I've been calling customer service every week or two weeks since September (it's Nov 20th now), and they just say that an account rep will call me to resolve this. Nobody called me back for 6 weeks and now they're even adding late fees! I just got an email from their Collections Department demanding payment for over $1500. And really, for over two months they have no one to call you back? read more

I called the local customer support number and I'm talking to some lady in North Carolina; meanwhile, here in Central Mass. I've got a full bin out there and I'm waiting for the bears to start coming by. Called last week - no response. Called yesterday (my pickup day) and left my phone number. No call and no pickup. Made my third call in a week today and the best they can do is alert someone local "in the system". They don't have local phone numbers for the location that is 12 minutes from my house. Republic Services service is in the dumpster. Horrible!!! They have missed numerous weekly pickups and will not pick up until the next week...at least 4 times this year in Princeton alone. One time they robo-called to let us know but the other times...nothing....!!! And when you call...Arizona...you are on hold for 20 minutes or more. We changed services and when we cancelled they are now trying to charge us for an additional month...it is their "policy" even though we have never had a written agreement. I called Republic Services today (Jan 3rd) for some customer service assistance. I am currently house sitting for my mother while she is out of the country for a few weeks and the trash and recycling has been piling up at the end of the driveway. I called and spoke with a RS rep, "Josh." He was very friendly and helpful, confirmed my information and heard my complaint. My complaint being that we hadn't had any pick ups for trash or recycling in 3 weeks. I gave him the dates of missed services and he quickly provided with me a pickup date. Then he transferred me to a woman named, "Kenya" because I requested a credit on my moms bill for all the missed services. She had an aggressive tone so I felt like the conversation was getting more "heated" then it needed to be. She asked if I'd called before for the missed pick ups, I replied No, (hoping they'd be coming any day now...). She then said sharply, "you get one or the other that's it." It was clear she was not going to help me nor feel a spec of sympathy for me. So I politely ended the call with a "thank you, I'll let my mother know. Good bye." After sharing this experience with my mom, I found out this happens ALL the time. And unfortunately it's not her responsibility to have to call them and nag them for the services she's paying for. So she'll be switching to another provider ASAP! On Jan 6 @ 4:30pm I called RS to say pick up still hasn't come! Spoke with ebony who says they go until 6pm and my address is still scheduled for pick up today. It never came. So on Tuesday around the same time I was starting to think about calling again, and they finally came. It was like pulling teeth. Another frustrating issue we've been dealing with is changing the name on the account we have. My father dropped dead 2 years ago and my mother has asked MANY times to please remove his name from the account so she isn't constantly being reminded of our loss. Let me start off saying that our trash man is amazing! We have had the same guy for 25+ years. If it wasn't for him I would of ditched this company years ago. It's the recycle truck that is an issue. He is supposed to come every 2 weeks. Half the time he doesn't show up so that leaves me with 4 weeks of recycles. I am getting tired of this. He was supposed to be here last friday, never showed again(after 4 weeks). I looked at the schedule, it was postponed to monday. No show again, called on tuesday and the rep promised he would be there on weds, no show again. I called again on thursday and rep said they would try and get it collected but she wasn't sure. Monday is a holiday, I already have two overflowing barrels. I recently called to start getting a refund for the times he doesn't show up. Its a $5 refund for missed recycles. They still charge me a fuel charge whether he comes or not. When asked why I am still getting a fuel charge when the truck isn't coming, she explained that its a maintenance charge as well for truck repairs etc. How much maintenance is going on for a truck that hardly shows up? read more

We recently canceled our trash and recycle pick up with Republic Services. After several missed pick ups and after using them for several years they seemed to get worse over time. Not to mention their customer service is outsourced to a call service in some other part of the country and their offices are not connected through a computer network. Everytime I called they would give me a different answer! HORRIBLE SERVICE ALL AROUND! So after we canceled they scheduled a date to pick up their 2 bins. Well today we get a bill for $94 for removing the 2 bins! I would give them zero stars if it was possible. We went with Harvey and are now saving ourselves $73 a quarter, including recycles!!! They have been fantastic so far and when you call them you get a friendly local service representative. What a breath of fresh air and I only wish we had done that a few years ago. read more

I just cancelled their service after a year. One of the least dependable services I have ever experienced. No one has picked up my trash in a month despite them collecting 3 months in advance. I have wasted so much time on the phone trying to get resolved and my time is worth money. The service agents will offer a $20 credit for the next billing period but I have wasted more than that taking the time to call and figure out why I still have a biohazard in my front lawn. They when you call and cancel that charge to get there bins even if they do not pick up your trash. They consider that picking up the trash the following week is what you are paying for so they will not credit your for the missed pickup. They have fees that they charge that are ever changing.
