Wish that I could give zero stars. Over the past 2 years, Republic has had the worst customer service I've ever seen. They rarely pick up trash on the scheduled day. I usually had to call to schedule a missed pickup since they just did not show up. This would result in my trash being at the curb for days, if not a full week. Sometimes, they never came until the next pickup (2 weeks later). I finally called to cancel and scheduled a bin pick up. They did not show up on the scheduled day to pick up the bins, so I had to call to reschedule. They've finally picked up the bins but are charging me $80 for bin pick up. I've called 4x to complain about this excessive fee (which was not disclosed when I cancelled and I was not given an opportunity to drop the bins off). They were supposed to call me back after 2 of the 4 phone calls, but no response. Find a different trash provider! Update: After posting my review, someone from Republic did reach out to me to resolve some of my complaints. Bumping up to 2 stars because of this. read more

This review is not for trash pickup, recycling or billing (all of which also get a 1-star review). This review is specifically for the Republic Services **response** to all the 1-star reviews, when they say they would "love the opportunity to resolve the issue. Please send us an email." I sent them that e-mail. Issues I raised included missed pickups, overbilling relative to our contract, fraudulent penalty charges, unresponsiveness, false information, etc. They first confirmed that our trash had been picked up (for the first time in two weeks) (it had been) (with no refund for the missed pickups). Then they said they'd have my rep reach out to me for follow-up. I pointed out that one of my issues was our rep had repeatedly blown off explicit commitments to follow up, and had ignored all attempts to contact him for a month and a half. I asked if they would be willing to address ANY of our other issues, and if anyone at Republic would be willing to take responsibility for our account. Have them with an HOA of over 200 units... it is common that they fail to show up for any number of reasons, they have not shown up and not communicated in the past... I have seen their drivers drive off in the middle of pickup never to return... Avoid at all costs read more

This is the worst trash removal company every, they are trying to leave the trash in our yard for an entire month without offering any option for return. We asked for removal immediately they have yet to come and not offering a solution. Will never use this company or recommend to anyone else. Horrible service for the price you pay. read more

AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS If you move to or are in an area where you have competing waste haulers, simply avoid Republic. We had them in Sherman (Springfield area), Illinois and my wife and I agree they were probably the worst service we EVER had, of any company. Besides charging exorbitant prices, they raise prices substantially without any prior notice. The drivers were at times wreckless. It was not uncommon for them to tip the bins into the truck and slam them back on the ground. We watched once when they slammed the bin down so hard, and so rapidly that it fell over and nearly went under the truck. The tire did make contact, but fortunately didn't damage the bin -I'm positive they would have charged me to replace it had it been damaged by their careless driver. The worst though is that Republic engages in what seem like Shady business practices at best, and at worst predatory or even illegal practices. When we called to inform them we would be moving, and gave a date to cancel, they stated that they could not pick up the bins after the final pickup. They informed us that, due to their own anticipated delays, WE would be charged, potentially for several extra weeks of service, even though we would no longer live at the serviced address. Further they indicated that if the new resident did not make the bins available on their undetermined pickup date, we would still be charged. Finally, when my wife and I called separately to argue that the above was unacceptable, and asked to speak with a manager, they continually put us on hold for 20+ minutes, as if just trying to make us go away. After my third time on hold, I asked to talk to a manager, again, but said if I was not connected within 3 minutes I would reach out to the Illinois Attorney General's Office to make a complaint about predatory business practices. Miraculously, I was connected to a manager almost immediately. Finally, while the manager confirmed to me (verbally, so it remains to be seen whether they will still process final charges accordingly) that our service charges would end on our move-out day, they informed me they would charege over $37 per bin to retrieve them. Just be aware, Republic has many ways to over charge, and may continue to try even after you move away. read more

Sold my home 3/21/25. Paid for Jan, February & March 2025 with their 90 invoice. They owe me refund of 10 days and it's been 4 months now! First my refund was $1.10, then they billed me for April 2025 when I didn't own property. This is the worst trash pickup company I've ever dealt with. They managed to pick up my neighbor's trash from the same building, but somehow missed my trash in the adjacent bin. I called them on Friday to pick this up and they had me scheduled for Monday. Well it's Wednesday now, and they keep scheduling a late pickup later and later until it will just fall on the regular pickup day. My regular driver is great. Consistent time, puts lids back on, etc. Either he has quit or is on vacation. Trash wasn't picked up Tuesday. I called the end of the day. Scheduled Wednesday. Still not picked up. Called early Thursday. Told it can be picked up between 3am and 5pm, and scheduled for Friday. Left cans out since. It's now Saturday, still not picked up. Plus, the raccoons (as expected) ripped open one of the 2 bags set out in addition on Tuesday. I had better get a credit or every single bag picked up Tuesday, if they want to retain me as a customer. They don't credit when they do call that they will miss, and sometimes I'm away the next week, so I get 3 weeks piling up. read more

I just watched a republic services truck drive up my street, back down in reverse, back around the corner to another street, then come forward again, picking up recycling. They did not take mine. I was standing on my porch waving at them. I moved my bins so they would be visible. Still nothing. Customer service says they'll come back for it Monday. This is constant, happens once a month or more. Any towns, cities, businesses or private individuals looking to hire this company will be seriously disappointed. The huge amount of taxes paid in this town (Arlington MA) should not require weekly calls for missed trash collection. Zero stars should really be an option. read more

Absolutely the WORST company we've ever had. Never seen our town so united as they were in their hate for this money grabbing disgrace of a company. They bought out the prior company (who was fabulous for decades) and assumed their contract and within a month every week trash was all over the streets cause they were too lazy to dump the barrels into the truck (they'd kick them in the streets and leave the trash that fell out) and broke barrels constantly. The worst was when they failed to pick up trash or recycle so it sat in the rain all day and after multiple residents called, they came two days later, only to pick up wet boxes of recycle and have the contents fall out and then they LEFT them all over the sidewalks. We called nearly daily and each time spoke to nice service agents who promised theyd be back same day or next day but no one ever showed - and the soggy magazines made for a super hazardous sidewalk resulting in multiple falls and devastating, life altering injury. They didnt care. They never came and cleaned up the mess THEY created - even the next week when they came by they failed to clean up or take away or do anything about the mess they single handedly created. Neighbors eventually had to clean it up because unlike them, we have basic human decency and didnt want anyone else to be severely injured. I have never in my life witnessed the degree of incompetency that this company brings to their "work". I have told everyone I know to RUN and never let their towns and cities engage with such a deplorable disgrace of a company. Their lack of humanity and basic care and consideration was appalling. People went through so many high quality barrels because of their abuse. They were also rude and obnoxious, blocking streets completely unnecessarily while they kicked barrels around for absolutely no reason. Once the town notified them that their contract wasnt being renewed they just stopped picking up trash and recycle all together with no notice. Thankfully our town contract is finally up and our town is full of top tier attorneys that are volunteering services to go after them for their complete disregard for their contractual obligations and violation of numerous fair business practices laws. Blatant disregard for contractual obligations, human decency, and utterly disgraceful operation. $0.00 would be too much to pay this joke of a company for the complete lack of service they provide. read more

We have been on the phone with them FOUR times, emails, The ENTIRE city of EASTHAMPTON has not had their trash removed in over THREE WEEKS. Nonotuck Park is hemorrhaging trash, we are running out of clean barrels. We keep being told tomorrow, tomorrow but yet NO ONE has removed the trash. They told us it was a lack of drivers at one point, except the driver came through the park and missed two dumpsters. I honestly do not know what we are paying for. It has been nothing but trouble with them! For the past year, I have been skipped more often than not simply because I'm the only one at my end of a dead end rd. They pick up the first house and turn around and leave! Today, I called after watching it happen and told them I would be canceling my service if it was not picked up today. She told me it was still early and she would put the "request" in because they have no way to contact THEIR drivers about a missed delivery. 4pm I call back because my trash is still sitting here full. I'm then told it's showing pick up for MONDAY. So as promised, I canceled my service. Upon doing so, I was told there would be a $45 charge to pick the can up?! Here's where the only good thing they did happened, after stating my case again about being skipped numerous times I asked if it really seemed fair that I pay them to pick up a can their drivers can't seem to pick up when I am a customer....the fee was waived without further questioning and I'm moving on to a new company. After reading all of the yelp reviews- I'm canceling my service with this company. Originally, I was going to call today to let them know that we pay an extra $25 for recycling, yet the driver doesn't separate anything (even though there is more than one chamber in this truck). Why are we paying more and doing our due diligence by separating everything if this company isn't doing their job? We have actually recorded this happening. It seems like we are just going to have issues in the future judging by these horrible reviews so I'm canceling before it gets to that point! I've also seen how the company replied to some Yelp comments with a cut and paste reply. So impersonal! I scheduled a bulk pickup of two items. A squat rack and a dresser. Republic services picked up one of them because a customer service person put down "chair" instead of squat rack. I was told they would come the next day to get it. Surprise, surprise. They didn't. It's now day 3 and they've "escalated" my request. I cannot even begin to adequately express the frustration they have caused our homeowners with missed pickups time and time again. Arizona has no idea what is going on in Massachusetts, and frankly, they don't seem to care all that much since nothing ever changes. When we call Auburn to complain, they either 1) Don't know we pay for their services and are current customers; 2) Think we're on a different pickup schedule than what we are; 3) Don't answer their phones in a reasonable amount of time so we can even speak with a live person. The information online is different than the phone message when you call in. What system of record are we supposed to use for accurate information when they're all different? Why is there no proactive communication for paying customers? We've had an issue every week in May, and many more throughout the earlier part of 2018. We certainly understand that issues arise once in a while - but every week? This makes them a completely unreliable partner for a service that our owners depend on them to provide. Never any proactive communication. Never an apology. Just more excuses. I can't recommend enough that you stay away from this company if you're looking for a reliable curbside trash pickup service provider. Z E R O STARS!!!! This is hands down the WORST company I have ever dealt with in My life. They steal money and do not provide a service. When asked to reimburse for services not provided, they claim they are unable to do so because they will pick up all trash and recycling at the next visit.... whenever that may be! We've had trash sitting at the curb for 6+ weeks and our recycling hasn't been picked up for 4 weeks and we just got a call that they won't be coming for ANOTHER TWO WEEKS!!! WORST SERVICE EVER - 5+ weeks since trash pickup, 6+ weeks since recycle pickup and not even a bill service credits. Called customer service and they say they don't see any missed pickups, yet I get calls every week about a "driver shortages", "can't complete my route", "will clean it all up next week" but it never happens. Can't even tell me when my last pickup actually was. Local office central Massachusetts is playing games with their customers and hiding it from corporate. Terrible customer service. They have missed three recycling pick-ups from my house in Arlington in the past year. I ignored the first one - nobody is perfect. The second one I called customer service and they promised replacement pick up the next day. They never showed up. On Dec. 13, 2023, they missed recycling pick up. I called. They sent someone on the 14th who picked up one cardboard box but ignored the 2/3 full recycling barrel next to the box. I called again and they promised pick-up on the 15th. They never showed up on the 15th. I called at 4.30 pm on the 15th and complained again and they ducked and dodged responsibility. read more

We would call, but just got bounced around from agent to agent, sometimes spending an upwards of over an hour and half on the phone. When we would finally get an agent, no one was ever able to help. Finally we had enough and called and canceled our service. Only to get an invoice for the next quarter three days later. Upon calling back, it seems they had no record of us canceling our service. Bait you with a low price, then you get all sorts of Admin and environmental fees which double the price, on top of outrageous barrel delivery charges $65. Then they miss their service, called them 7 times, wasted 6+ hours of my life and they only credited me $1. 1 freaking dollar for missing several pickups!!!!! Now that I'm cancelling they are charging me $65 to pick up the barrels. Republic Services was once a reliable company. In the last 6 months, they have missed pick ups consistently. The customer service rep says "they are coming" every time I call (yes, it has gotten to the point where I start calling at 2 to give them notice). Because our pick up is at the end of the week we often have to sit with the garbage and recycling until they can come on Monday. I don't appreciate being consistently lied to by the reps, nor do I appreciate trying to find where to put 2 days worth of trash and recycling when I am paying to not have to do that.
