I'm pretty sure the owner runs the place alone or with very little help, so with that being said she's doing a great job. People really don't understand how hard it is to keep so many reptiles while also running a store alone. So for the cages to not be pristine at all times is totally understandable. Petco/Petsmart has a ton of employees and their animals are filthy and sickly. She's definitely doing a great job for running the place on such little help. It's a good place with good products but it's kinda smells if your not used to reptiles. It has a good selection of reptiles and spiders and some fish (2 kinds) the bettas are sold in cups with alarmed me and they had small koi in a container it's big but not big enough for all the koi they have and some of the big reptiles witch I have done research on the cages are too small and some cohabitation happens with bearded dragons and some others and some care requirements not being met and some exoterras being closed by pipe cleaners and the store it's dirty dusty and some cages are dirty and there were a few spiderwebs and the other person I was with said the women was rude but they didn't seem rude to me but other than that it's good and they have a good selection of reptiles and spiders read more

If I can give this place a 0 star review, I would. My name is Jasmine and I am a reptile lover, had a bearded dragon for 15 years. Let me start by saying whoever owns this place has 0 respect for the animals in there. I went in the other day absolutely disgusted by the conditions these animals are in. Half of these animals look like they're dead. It is absolutely horrifying how filthy these cages are, half of the cages had feces all over, flies inside of the cages, and the food for these babies have been there for days (soggy lettuces), and the water in these cages is dirty. I am going to be contacting whoever can help me rescue these babies. The owner really needs to dedicate her time and clean these tanks, and keep up with the maintenance, and if she can't then she needs to consider another line of work. Someone please help rescue these babies, I hope the owner reads this and really reconsiders how she treats these babies. She's disgusting. read more

Probably one of the best local secrets in Lake Elsinore if you own a reptile. The Den has everything you need as I've been coming here for years. Vicky the owner will make it a point to know your name and often she'll go out of her way to make sure she answers any questions. What I find amazing is she truly loves her reptiles and often you'll see her fostering or rescuing those pets in need. She's an angel and her prices are low and fair. She carries mice and crickets at probably the lowest price you'll find anywhere I recommend her and the Reptile Den as a must for your reptile needs. I bought a UVB light for our leopard Gecko about 2 months ago and it stopped working a week ago. I called the store to see if I could exchange it or return it and I was told by the owner and the other lady they don't do that. No exchange no discount on another one because that would affect their bottom line. No sorry that happened or anything. They could not have cared less. Told me contact the manufacturer. In the past 2 months I have spent about $200 there and that's what I got. So much for supporting a small business. Petsmart would have exchanged it for a new one. Won't shop there again read more

Hate to have to do this because I really love mom and pop places and would prefer supporting them... However, this isn't a good one. I've been a couple of times and disappointed both times. I purchased a double dome and lights which said would last a year. One went out in about 6 months which was upsetting considering how expensive they were. I went back and bought a replacement one and that one only lasted one week. I went back and told the owner and she was like "ok so you want to buy a new one." Like really! This is not good customer service. Then I told her that I was concerned that maybe it was the dome and if I should bother getting another light or what was going on. She gave me a rude response and said "it happens." That's not what I would expect to hear from someone as a customer that's supported their business and their product isn't adequate. You should have some pride in your business and back your supplies. I'll just ordered them from Amazon they're much cheaper and they deliver to my door. The Reptile Den is awesome, they have outstanding service and lots of varieties when it comes to reptiles. I buy mice here often, and I love the packaging she puts the mice in isnt a cheap paper bag it's sturdy so you can assure your mice won't chew their way out, and the prices are the best around and they even offer a rewards program so ask about it when buying mice or crickets. The other day I was in and there and she had a huge iguana on the floor and he was just hanging out. Great buisness love this place! read more

Literally, this place is a gem. The owner is super kind and informative. I'm a new owner of a leopard gecko and even though I didn't purchase my gecko through this location, she is always willing to answer any questions I have and help educate me. Not only is the staff here wonderful but prices are unbeatable. I use to pay $5-$6 for crickets at Petco for 20-40 crickets and now I pay $2 for 40 large crickets, such a great price. I'm only giving them one star because the reptiles they had were fairly priced. That's it. I went in with my two children who LITERALLY had their hands in their pockets or holding mine. They gave the animals space, no tapping, no close ups, no loud noises etc. Just because we will be first time reptile owners doesn't mean we are idiots. So walk in, no greeting no nothing; alright whatever. But then when I ask if a lizard up front was a bearded dragon ( it looked similar) she scoffed and just pointed to the back. Fast forward to walking around the store and noticing more and more how unhappy these animals look and how many of them are in gross dirty enclosures. While the lady up front, Vickie, just sat their twiddling her thumbs. When I got up as we are making our way out (probably had been in there a whole of 10 min), I noticed a skull shaped water fountain that was literally named "Repti-Rockfall" or something or other. It had reptile in the name. So I ask, "oh how cool! Is this something that just goes in their enclosure or...?" And her response was the BITCHIEST, most passive aggressive tone I've honestly ever had used in customer service. She said "ugh no, not if you're getting a bearded dragon. They are lizards, they are desert animals." So I reply "interesting because I read that they love the water and require daily baths." And I don't even remember what her answer was but then she barked at my kid for looking at some dumb plastic snake. I will NEVER give this place my business. read more

First off... to the negative people. Vickie is blunt. Ex military who devoted her time for 20 years in the service. Who gets no benefits for her time. She works alone because she can't afford the help. She works 13-15 hours. It takes almost 3 hours to feed and water everyone. Everyone is given fresh food and water every morning. Here's the thing about reptiles...they stink. A lot are protein eaters and as soon as they are given fresh water they drink it then poop in it! It's smells because a lot need wet soil and that gets smelly with the warm lights, quickly. If a product is bad. It's not her fault, it's the manufacture. She donates her own money for rescues that people bring in and are usually in horrible conditions. She pays for vetting out of her own pocket for her customers. She gives breaks to people when money is tight and they can't afford proper food and care. The part when she gets frustrated is she exhausted. She cares for her elderly mom who just went through battling cancer. She deals with people who make quick picks in animals cause as babies they are so cute. But, then people don't listen to proper care and diet. Also, the rat/mouse boxes are not cheep for her. But, they are also meant to be in there shortly as you are going to go feed that live animal to your animal. So, maybe , be nice. Help her out. Bring your own enclosure or buy one. She doesn't keep the animals in what looks to be nice bedding or substrate ( which is often the wrong kind)because it usually hold mites. So when you go some where else and see wood chips and it looks to be clean...it hold bacteria as mites but also helps prevent smell. Your not going into a perfume shop! Do you complain at the zoo when you massive amount of poop and can smell it? Nope. She works her ass off. She's genuinely a great lady. But, she gets sick of uneducated rude people. But, damn, she's only one person. Who works even when she's sick because she has no choice. So please, be kind. She really does what she can. read more

I love supporting small businesses but this place is disgusting. The whole store is covered in cobwebs and dust. All of the animals cages were filthy and I honestly felt bad for the reptiles they were selling. The prices are also a bit overinflated, they were selling regular baby bearded dragons for $70! The lady at the counter did greet me hello when I walked in. Even the handle on the door when you go in was wrapped in a filthy towel. I have no idea what the towel was for? I bought my leopard tortoise from here a little over a year ago. He (assuming he is a boy) has been healthy since the day I brought him home... eats like a horse. It's been fun watching him grow up and he is turning into the most handsome tortoise ever, with a great personality. Vicki answered the million questions I've had... even called her a few times with questions months after getting him and she was happy to answer. I followed her advice and he's thrived perfectly. The first thing we noticed was the rancid smell of animal urine and feces when we opened the door. The store and animal cages were filthy. We were not greeted when we came in and were treated very rudely by the lady working there. She acted extremely annoyed when we asked for help. The final thing we noticed were the inflated prices of the sad and dirty animals that they were selling. The little box turtle that my daughter was looking at was over $600??? I was staying at the hotel across the street and before the trip back I had to stop in here. I love reptiles and own a bearded dragon myself who is the most lovable little guy an owner could ask for. All the guys in here looked well-fed and happy. Cage sizes were good and lighting seemed like it was at the correct temps. I like how they even had cages over the lights on the inside so none of the lizards smacked their heads against the bulb. (Some reptiles are, unfortunately, not so bright lol) Snakes, tarantulas, monitor lizards, cornsnakes, tortoises, chameleons all lined up against the walls of this little gem of a shop.
