My favourite espresso place, great location too but the shop is a bit small if you are dining in.

Checking out the menu it became apparent quite quickly that apart from the genuinely friendly service, that this cafe offered good value. With a $9.90 big breaky on offer when some cafes are charging $17, is a huge difference. On closer inspection nearly every item on their menu is under $10...!! As for the coffee...it feels like it was made with love, which I like, but it was quite over espressed with too much milk froth. That said, it was not horrendous by any means. So if you are looking for a place to chill out and P&R is packed out, why not drop in and try them out? But first I wanted to take a quick moment to let Sydney know about you. How, although you're in Gordon, a trip I across suburbs, or even the bridge, should not be a problem for none-the-wiser people once they know about you and your wife Cindy's incredible hospitality and great spirit and cheekiness and overall talent. I also wanted to let them know that I started eating muffins (no I was not born under a rock I just had great discipline) because of you and those greatly delectable muffins that you used to have. It's true that you don't have them anymore and I can't lie, they were my favourite thing in the world, but I will say that your substitute muffins almost hit the spot as well. I also want to mention that Matt loves your egg breakfast as well and he'll be with me when I get there. Say hi to Cindy and also mum says hello! See you soon.

I also get stuck making it for the rest of the family (especially D2) because they claim they cant make it like I do. Yeah right. Every weekend or so I head over to Siboni's to get a bag of their "Cordon Bleu" blend. I say "their" because the first thing you see when you walk in is a whopping great roaster with pipes going everywhere and a tray full of the most amazingly aromatic beans being spun round and cooled by a contraption that looks like it could make bodies disappear. Its now on its second owner but the Cordon Bleu is always the same and always great. I've tried beans from Joe Black (5 Senses) Corduroy (Little Marionette) Toby's, peaberrys, Jamaican Blue, Sumatran, Ethiopian, Indian Monsoon, single origin, beans that have been through an Indonesian cat and they are all really great. Its just that I think I've grown accustomed to Siboni's - "Sibs" as its known round these parts, and we have a history. The hours are from the 60's - closed on Sundays and at other odd times. The bloke can be a bit taciturn but the lady is so friendly and helpful. Many a time they've stayed open for 5 extra minutes for me when I forget to grab a bag and only remember just as they are about to shut up. They also have a great range of coffee machines and they make a brilliant coffee if you're up that way. They even have my little Saeco - tucked up the back behind all the glamorous show ponies, bet they won't still be going strong having made a cup of coffee every day for 17 years. ...alright... I haven't had beans that have popped out the ding of an Indonesian cat, but only because I haven't found the shop yet.

Although it is not a Cafe they will make you a coffee to try. A great place to sit down for a morning coffee and gently start the day. Ordering my dbl mac as per usual, I thought I might treat myself to a big breaky (honestly I had a bit of a craving for bacon). So while waiting for breaky to arrive my coffee appeared and at first glance, these guys had done a pretty good job. Not too much milk or froth, a good amount of crema, and it was not burnt. About the only thing they could have done better would have been to have shorter shots. As my first Schibello coffee I can only compare it to other brands. This one has a bland commercial flavour to it. I would still put it above Vittoria, but when compared to Vella Nero, Klink, or Air Coffee, there simply is no comparison. As I finished my coffee, breakfast arrived. I hate to be too picky but... a big breaky with only 1 rasher of bacon, a hash brown soaked in oil, and what can only be described as a cheap Coles like sausage is not Ao impressive. The eggs were well cooked and the mushrooms were generous, but I don't think I shall order this from here again. I've been away for more than six months and this cafe's improvements have really elevated the Gordon St. John Ave precinct. We came here bright and early at 6am for breakfast. So bonus points for opening this early to cater to workers and people dealing with jet lag. We had muesli, French toast, big pan bf and warm flaky croissant. Every one was presented to us not only nicely but they also tasted great. Muesli was homemade, crunchy, well toasted with a good mix of nuts and dried fruit. The accompanying fresh fruit was of generous proportion too. French toast was made with their own baguette with sides of banana and syrup. Big bf was huge with eggs, 2 sausages, greens, mushrooms, bacon and a side of baguette. Croissant was fresh out of the oven and something to die for! We had 2 skim lattes which were average as it wasn't hot enough for our taste. I would return again and again but the breakfast did cost quite a bit so it will be for special weekends or a treat.

While there was no single origin coffee on offer, the mac I had was surprisingly good. Character notes other than chocolate and nuts are rare in blends from the larger roasters, but this one managed to avoid the over roasted taint, and still retain a nice blend of sweetness and acidity. In all honesty I prefer the Butcher's Block - but this cafe does come at a close second. The coffee here is from Gabriel's. And sadly no single origin beans are on offer. The brew a nice cup either way. But I think the pull here is not the coffee, but rather the food. The food here is a good - I've only come for breakfast. They generally don't do any take away food, so this is more of a sit down place. The beacon, egg and avo toast is good, and the homemade oats are really good. Just a warning this place is small, and most of the times the tables are reserved. So either reserve before hand or be prepared to wait for a table. The staff here are friendly, and constantly apologize to you if you are waiting. So even though not as good as the Butcher's Block, it is still worth a visit.
