Service is quite efficient and you will get your drink shortly after ordering. Good place to go for a quick coffee on your way to the office. They do serve a nitro cold brew here as well. Not the best I've had but definitely better than average. This can be pretty nasty if not done right. The food menu here is really a concise list of toasts and simple brunch items. I had the Mecca bowl which is a bed of quinoa topped with avocado, egg, spinach, and sweet potato. The dish sounds light but it is really filling. It is hard to find good coffee in the early morning (open at 0600). I guess Sydney is not a big coffee drinker city. You can't go wrong with espresso and black coffee in this place. The only drawback is you still have wait for the bakery to show up. They have outdoor sitting which is perfect for after a morning run in the area to enjoy coffee before go to work. read more

Cute and busy roadside cafe bar. They have a variety of coffees and pastries, and a limited food menu of mostly toasts and salad. There is outdoor seating, and a small indoor stand up bar. Fast service. Avocado toast was good. They put some pretty intense spice on it; which was unusual. It would have been better if the limes actually squeezed out onto the toast - they were old limes and didn't squeeze. I even asked for fresh lime but she said they didn't have any. Definitely a fan of this place! Arguably one of the best, if not the best, coffee in CBD! (If there are better ones please PM me) There some outdoor seating areas for those quick meetings and catch ups and non take away drinkers, they also serve some sandwiches and salads for a quick feed. Otherwise, there's two stand up benches inside for those like me that don't want that paper cup taste with their coffee. But warning, it's quite stuffy inside, so if you choose to stand inside, you do need to bare the hotness. Very consistent with their coffee, tried their piccolo and affogato, next time will try their long black and macchiato. Extra notes for their affogato as they serve it differently to most places and the ice cream they use have a unique flavour to it which makes it stand out! Try for yourself! read more

Coffee: Mecca (Dark Horse Blend) Passion: 10/10 Crema: 10/10 (Top 10 in Sydney) Coming to a cafe and getting schooled on what a coffee can do in the right hands is a wonderful thing. Having tried the Colombian single origin from Mecca before I made the mistake of bad mouthing it here, and was then delivered a fantastic coffee. Since then, I know that when I come here I'll be served by someone with the passion to squeeze the best out of the beans. Today I started with a El Salvador Grand Reserve espresso which, in the words of Shoji "just tastes like coffee". To be honest.... it did... It was robust, it was smooth, it was a whole lot of coffee, but it still kept something for the end. While not cutting through the aroma or the full body, as the flavours developed in the after-taste, a lighter, somewhat nuttier flavour appeared. Very enjoyable. I then grabbed the filter coffee of the day which was an Ethiopian Duromina. which started with an amazing spicy aroma, somewhat citrusy. As it opened up however, the flavour started to degenerate and leave a sour after-taste. While not a bad coffee, it was no where near as good as the El Sal. All up, this busy cafe is a brilliant representation of what Mecca beans can do. And by all accounts, that is a good thing indeed. N.B. So I am a serious Mecca Fan! Not just this store but any Mecca coffee chain. However, I can see how this place is not for everyone. Firstly, if you come in peak time you will be waiting for your coffee - and this is not an impression of the staff, but just how popular this place is. A few mornings ago, I waited 20 minutes for my espresso. The timing is however a manifestation of their love of coffee, each cup is made with unadulterated love. So they do take their time. I personally think it is worth the wait, but, if you are running late and just want a quick and dirt cup, this might not be the place for you. The food here is good, but basic compared to the other cafes in the area. I personally have only grabbed toast with my coffee so cannot really comment on the salads, but they look good - if you trust my eyesight. read more

The guys at Mecca on King street are the holly grail of dudes when it comes to a rich smooth macchiato, or a strong long black. They're have a true, undeniable passion for the brew, and know how to have fun too. Most of their clientele are business people, who sometimes hog the outdoor seating with their Latte's with skim, and their double iPad slash note book to the stars, which they just accidentally bought a blackberry stylus for. Crude, I know, but its been done. Overall these guys are good for their coffee, but not their overpriced and undersized sandwiches and pastries. It's always packed for lunch, but if you're after some great tasting sandwiches try to hit up little Vienna which is close by, more bang for your buck business people. read more

This place is the Chinese Restaurant of cafes following the formula unique to them: the better the coffee the surlier the staff. I want to hate this place. Really I want to. I'm working on it really hard but I can't. I just can't. The coffee is faultless and the breakfasts are inspired. Greek yoghurt on an Avocado Smash. Genius. I have to respect Mecca for being the first. Before Sydney knew it had a coffee scene, when people thought Campos was the be all and end all, along came Mecca to start a revolution. This is the sort of place people used to walk blocks out of the way for. Then along came those other usurpers, offering equally good coffee and equally good food. No wonder they're so angry all the time. I mean seriously angry. Like they begrudge us the coffee. Besides, the moment you make friends with a Sydney cafe worker the service seems to slip. At least this way I won't be tempted. One of the best coffee places in the Sydney CBD. It has (almost) everything to love about a coffee shop. - Friendly Baristas - Great coffee brew (so you can have confidence not to have milk or soy milk) - Best locations (Circular Quay, Ultimo, and smack bang in the middle!) - Opens early in the morning - Can use beat the Q system - which means less fumbling for cash and also you get a virtual stamp which means you don't need to carry around yet another stamp card. I guess the "almost" part would be that it's busy. So be prepared to wait, or come really early or really late. But that is a good thing because you know its good. read more

My go-to for coffee when I'm mid-town. Their banana bread is really good too - it's got more cinnamon than most, and it's a good thing. The seating at this Mecca is all outside, so keep that in mind. I have been reluctant to write a review of Mecca because I don't think it warrants the usual review against the standard criteria of a café or restaurant (ie food, service, acoustics, décor, wine, value/cost etc). Why? Because the reason you would go to Mecca, notwithstanding anything else, is the quality of the coffee, with service as a bonus. And so, I will depart from my usual approach in reviewing, and I will chart a different course. I rate Mecca 5 Stars. Here's why: The quality of the coffee! I will start with the roast. Mecca offers variety in roast, from the light end with almost honey tones to a somewhat darker roast with chocolate tendencies. All very interesting. But if you order a standard espresso or flat white or cap without selecting the roast, then you will most likely get a delicious classic medium roast (my personal favourite). Next, the roasters. I make a daily visit to Mecca for a morning coffee - I've been doing this for a month now. In that time, I have not had one coffee ruined in the roaster by scorching or over roasting. (That is my pet peeve.) Brewing - (This is about as close to a review of service as I will get.) Now, one might think that it should be difficult to get coffee brewing wrong. However, time and time again I have experienced brewers who in effect boil the coffee (if you've had a coffee with that bitter chemicals taste, that is an example of what happens when you boil coffee). The brewers at Mecca do not do this! I am always impressed with the teamwork at Mecca and the precision with which each brewer executes the task of brewing coffee. A note of warning: Mecca in the CBD is not open on the weekends. read more

The best Vegemite and avocado on rye sourdough I have ever eaten, and as my favourite breakfast, I've eaten a few! Plate came with three servings of toast and a massive serving of both Vegemite and avocado so I could apply as much of each as I liked. The only thing that kept me from giving five stars was that it was such a GREAT way to start my first morning(JUST what the doctor ordered to cure a little jetlag) in Sydney that I was devastated when I came by the next day (Saturday) for more to find it closed. The place is hopping on any week morning and trying to get to the counter for your morning joe is like trying to push and shove your way to the bar for another drink at Tao on a Friday or Saturday night. This is a bit of a haven for coffee lovers, just as the name insinuates ever so subtly. I was really impressed about the clear passion the baristas had for the coffee they produce here, and for great service as they had pretty much whipped mine up before I had even finished my order! There is seating here but you'll have to use your elbows to get it at rush hour. Best to come at a quiet time to really concentrate on your brew. Mecca have 2 branches with the King St one being more atmospheric due to it being in the Grace Hotel building and having outdoor seating. The coffee is strong and smooth at both locations though. Sometimes I love sitting at the window with my cap in the morning looking at all the suits doing business. The guys who work there are pretty chilled and some of them like a bit of a chat which is always fun. Overall a great little coffee stop in the CBD and stands out from the rest in terms of coffee quality. Sometimes I don't understand popular opinion. The amazing reviews of this place are a bit dated, but the crowd is still there. For me, Mecca just didn't cut it. Each coffee I had was a different experience, and none of them were very good. That said, the friendly staff must be doing something right, with the beautiful well groomed crowd sitting happily in their tailored suits sipping their weak coffee and nibbling at their smashed avocado toasts. What more can one ask of a coffee shop than a good atmosphere, great coffee, nice location? Oh yeah, populated with awesome people. Mecca has all four of these features in a nice little package befitting the name. I thoroughly enjoyed my large flat white in the warm spring sun on the sidewalk this arvo. The coffee here has its own distinctive flavor which is important to distinguish itself. Top coffee joint. I would suggest pre-ordering on an app such as Hey You to save you from the endless wait during peak times such as Monday mornings.
