I will start off by saying that Reny's always be one of my destinations anytime I visit my family in Maine. I've been trying to think of a way to describe the store, and I really can't! To me it's kind of like a low key TJ Maxx but with a more "General Store" type of feel. With an interesting combination of products you can find anything from a Carthartt item to locally sourced jams and sauces. Just a mish-mash of everything with a New England down-home feel. The store is broken down into several different sections. In one part you can find brand new name-brand items from the aforementioned Carthartt, to LLBean, to Skechers, etc. Venture off a little further and you can find t-shirts 3 for $10. Go upstairs and you will find decently priced home goods alongside Lodge brand cast iron items. Last year I went there in search of an ice pack and I found a HUGE one - during the off season - for under $5. In the middle of the store they have a food and sundries section - the prices for some of the essentials pretty much rival those of the ones that I have found here in So Cal. You can also find items that have been created from the local Maine companies... wow, I could go on and on. A word of advice... if you see it and you like it, GET IT! I purchased some locally sourced herbs last year (The Blend, The Maine Accent) for $4.99 a jar - normally $12 online), came back in the spring and they didn't have it in stock. That was an awesome deal when I had it! The staff is friendly and helpful. The ambience is that of an old-timey general store. The prices on the off-brands are amazing! Trust me, I spend about $110 every time I visit and get 2 bag-fulls of items, then have to figure out how in the heck I'm going to get it back to SoCal. Totally worth it. Pretty sure they have several locations so if you are ever in Maine, do yourself a favor and check Reny's out!!! read more

What's not to like about Reny's? Almost all of their locations are in places where local still matters; places like Bath, Damariscotta, Portland, and Gardiner, which are only four of 15 Reny's locations around Maine. In fact, Damariscotta has two stores, both across the street from one another. With the demise of locally-owned, multi-location businesses (like Mr. Paperback), Reny's remains a fixture in many of Maine's smaller communities. They continue to grow and anchor some of the state's remaining vibrant Main Streets and downtown shopping districts. The two-story location in downtown Gardiner, on Water Street, is one of my favorites. Maybe because Gardiner has a quaint little downtown, with some funky, older architecture, and this Reny's is located in one of those older blocks, it's the perfect department store for a town like Gardiner. Reny's is like Marden's without the clutter, or something like that. What I like about each one of these places is that you never know what new surprise awaits you each time you visit, and each location is different than the others. This time, my surprise was ketchup-flavored potato chips!! What are ketchup-flavored potato chips, you ask? Well if you are asking, you obviously don't know the wonders of this kind of snack. I discovered these in Canada, years ago. I also learned that they're rare in New England; when you see a supply, you better stock up because you might go a year or two before you run across the variety again. Reny's was rocking Herr's brand of ketchup-flavored potato chips, flavored by iconic ketchup-maker, Heinz. We picked up four bags. Reny's also has an ample variety of Bob's Red Mill products like their granola, muesli, soups, chia seeds, and other quality products from a company I really like. I picked up a package of vegi soup mix for the colder days that are on the horizon. Easy way to have hot soup for lunch or work. Reny's is a favorite of bargain shoppers everywhere, and as their tagline says, "Reny's--A Maine Adventure." It's also nice to know that there is a locally-owned alternative to Wal-Mart. read more

I DARE ANYBODY to attempt returning ANYTHING from this blatant RIP-OFF Corporation, & walk away satisfied, like you do at LL Bean! There is NOTHING cheap at Reny's-PERIOD! Example:- CARHARTT hooded sweatshirt (NOT cheap). Zipper broke after 3 months, All the BS in the world & nobody, I mean NOBODY would tell me why no warrantee! Just perpetual pass the buck from pee-on to pee-on clerks to pee-on "supervisors" without power! They even blamed the CARHARTT sales rep! Told me "No longer made" BS!!! NEVER AGAIN & I live 15 miles away! Shop at BEANS ! NO dissapointments! Also, this site is FAKE if you notice ALL good reviews! read more

One of my favorite Reny's locations. Located in a few old store fronts in downtown Gardiner. Parking right in front on main street. Great selection of food, clothes, cosmetics, knick knacks, etc. Great prices. You cannot go in and not buy something. Love the Columbia and Carhartt selection. Lot of Maine local brands like Tom's of Maine. Friendly and helpful staff, great prices. My go to store in Maine. read more

This is a hard one because I've been shopping and loving Reny's My entire life. Recently I was shopping with my friend and she found a good price on a suitcase. It wasn't a discount price by any means but was reasonable. All of the suitcases of the same kind had the same price. When she went to check out, it rung up $12 more than the price tag! The cashier didn't mention it, but my friend happened to be paying attention! She politely asked the cashier about it and was told the price tag was wrong and someone had made a mistake. They wouldn't sell the suitcase for the price marked. Disappointed, but needing the suitcase, she paid the extra $12. We both were flabbergasted because most places would honor the marked price and apologize for their mistake. She called a day or so later to speak with the manager and he offered no apologies and said it was her choice to take it or leave it. I will continue shopping at this store, but with caution! Be aware that you might not pay the price marked! Check your receipts! read more
