If I could give rentnoho.com a negative star review, I most certainly would. I am not one to make a stink over most situations. I believe it takes a special sort of experience to leave a negative review on yelp for a business. Particularly a business in a small town that, despite logic or common sense, seems to have a monopoly on the housing market here.
Where to begin?
To be as brief as I can it started when I was still living out of state and needed to secure housing from afar before moving back to the Valley. Craigslist is hard to use when you can't actually see the place, so I thought my best bet was to go with an agency that could act on my behalf. Right off the bat rentnoho.com was literally incapable of providing me with even the most basic customer service. I emaied several times with budget, dwelling needs, location and move in dates. It seemed that no one was interested in A. getting back to me in a timely manner (at least several days) or B. referring me to any properties that met my needs; I was told to check the site for listings, but if you've been on their site you know it's terrible and unclear.
After being ignored and treated like I was not important, I sent an email basically calling them out for terrible service and asking them to explain to me what it is they actually DO for prospective renters. Well, that got their attention, within 24 hours Renee not only responded to me, but actually called me to ASSURE me that they provide superior service and are more than willing to help me. The following few days I was bombarded with rental referrals that met my criteria and a pleasant, albeit forced, demeanor. It wasn't long before I was relegated back to the area of being ignored.
We finally found a place which we knew would not be our ideal place, but that allowed us to rent month-to-month and let us have a dog. A landing pad apartment, if you will. The only real requirement was that it was up to code and clean. Sharon assured us it would be in "move in condition". When we got there, it was nothing short of a nightmare. There was feces left from the previous tenant sitting in the toilet (which had been there for 2 weeks since we took that long to drive up here), cat litter and hair everywhere, cobwebs all over the apartment, food still splashed on the CEILING OF THE KITCHEN, no smoke alarms or carbon monoxide detectors, bugs everywhere, pieces of drywall missing with the slats showing. Over all it was dirty and disgusting. There was also what smelled like a gas leak from the oven that is at least 30 years, maybe more, old. I should also note, that rentnoho.com listed an apartment that was illegal to rent by Massachusetts Health Code. Most notably that there is only 1 mode of egress and that door sticks. Several times we have actually been stuck in the apartment for long enough that in an actually emergency we surely would have perished, but I digress.
Here's where it got really terrible to work with rentnoho.com, we immediately called the gas company, then our landlord, then rentnoho.com. The only people that answered was the gas company, they came, they inspected and all was fine with that. Rentnoho.com never answers the phone, ever, so no shock there. Our landlord was out of town and not reachable so we left a message with her husband to call us immediately. We ended up staying in a hotel (that we paid for) that night because we could not live in this disgusting apartment. Rentnoho.com finally reached me by email saying "I am sorry to hear about the condition of the apartment. RentNoho.com's responsibilities do not include preparing an apartment for lease start date. I am recommending you contact your Lessor immediately."
Long story short, rentnoho.com never made this situation right. We asked them to find us a new apartment, but they were not willing to unless we "started the process over" which meant we had to pay ANOTHER broker fee which is, outrageously, 60% of the first months rent and that's collected IMMEDIATELY upon acceptance of an application for an apartment from a landlord, NOT after you actually sign the lease. I ping-ponged emails back and forth between Sharon at Rentnoho.com in which she kept evading responsibility and "impressing upon" me that she, nor rentnoho.com is liable. After I got tired of this run around I requested a phone call from her. She said she would call me after 3pm that day to discuss. That was July 12th, I am still waiting for that call.
Do not give these people your business in any form. They are deceitful, unethical and corrupt. They represent slumlords and turn huge profit on people who cannot afford to be exploited for money. They need to be shut down until they can run a business ethically and with a shred of human decency. It's likely only a matter of tim read more
