Mike was nice enough in the beginning scheduling a time to help me with electrical, install ceiling fans, and faucet. He was also budget friendly & the cheapest quote I received but you get what you pay for.. he is completely unreliable. We agreed for him to meet at my house at 9 am on a Saturday which the image of the text message is included. At 9:47am the day of the appointment, I text him to find out what his ETA is because maybe I can run an errand to go to the pharmacy before he arrives. No answer. I call him at 10am asking him when I should expect him because maybe I can run that errand if he is still far enough away & he responds with you tell me. I clarified why I was asking & he said it depends what the GPS says I don't know how far you live. Then he sounded frustrated, I told him I'm only 30 mins away & it will only take me 15 mins and if he hasn't left yet then it's best for me to go now since I'm just waiting for him anyways & I'll be home before 10:30am. Obviously it sounds like he hasn't left yet. I explained to him I just wanted to find out if he was on the road already or not. So I ran to the pharmacy & got back before 10:30am as promised and didn't hear from him if he left yet. From the attached image of my text, I asked him to text or call me when he was on his way then I'll provide him with the gate code. I live in a gated community & I never give my gate code right away until I ensure the person, especially service ppl, is confirmed on their way for safety reasons. At this time I am fixing an old vacuum cleaner & testing it to see if it works. That only took 15 mins to try and vacuum & in that time I didn't hear my phone ring. I missed Mike's 3 calls. Attached is also an image of when he first called at 10:43am telling me he is already at the gate. At 10:53am I called him back & no answer. I kept calling & texting him back saying sorry I missed him because I was vacuuming & couldn't hear my phone but no answer or replies. It was only 10 mins from when he first called to when I called him back, that is it. He never called or answer my text & I guess took off because I made him wait 10 mins. It was only 10 mins difference but he agreed to be at my house at 9am & I was being understanding of that. He can waste my time but God forbid we waste his. Executive Summary Rent-A-Man With Tools (Mike) is unreliable and rude. He will tell will make an appointment with you and you will coordinate your schedule accordingly, then he will not show up. Analysis Typically my reviews assign a rating for each of the following: (1) Product (quality of); (2) Price; and (3) Customer Experience. On December 3 I called Mike and arranged a meeting for December 7. During the call Mike was short tempered and easily agitated however he had good reviews on Yelp so I decided to move forward with the December 7 meeting. During this call I gave Mike my address and he agreed to meet between 4-6 PM. On December 7 at 5:30 PM I called Mike and he told me he was on his way. He was delayed due to traffic. At 6:10 PM I called Mike and he said he does not work in my area. I advised Mike that he should have told me that on December 3 so I can make other arrangements. Fortunately I had scheduled another contractor to conduct an estimate as well, and he showed up for the estimate. Okay so I wasn't going to write a review because I didn't get any services done but seeing as he's a real douche canoe over the phone, and that's why there weren't services done I feel that it is my duty to tell the public of this matter. It was a great Hallow's Eve and I had been trying to get services done all day on this water heater that simply can not be reached by little ol me in this huge garage. I got up there with my ninja skills and saw my problem was I only needed a ladder to reach the top. Every single plumber is not available is refusing to service because of the brand of water heater and everything, my luck was down. Kept calling people and finally some plumber was nice enough to tell me that if I called a handyman they would most definitely be able to help with a ladder to reach the water heater and open the valve so I could have hot water. So I yelped the closest handyman. Overall it appeared that this guy was solid based on the review average being somewhat high. Do not be fooled by those reviews. They most definitely have to be fake seeing as this guy has poor social skills. I called him on the phone and explained that I needed a ladder. He said he would call me back in ten minutes. He called back in less than ten, so there's that. I explained to him my predicament and he said that his ladder would definitely reach because it can reach two stories. I was looking forward to seeing that ladder because I really need this hot water on but I never did get to see it, I'm so sad about that. The conversation we had on the phone discussing the ladder was fine. He asked what I needed explained it to him. In detail that I needed to turn on the water heater because I had just moved in to this business/apartment and they forgot to turn the water heater back on and etc... and then I started telling him about my building and how it's right on the left corner with a green gate he interrupted and said he was coming from the 405 so I wouldn't know which direction he was coming from. As I'm chuckling to myself in my head I repeat my instructions and explain that It's on the street corner on a one way street. You can't miss it. He said he'd head over immediately and did. He parked exactly where I told him to by the green gate. I hear his van pull up and put my dogs inside and as I'm opening up the gate this dude drives away. Literally drives away. I call him twice because now I see I have a missed call from him that I got while trying to open the gate for him. He literally was inside of his truck. Sitting there. If he would have gotten out of the truck or turned the truck off he would have heard me fussing with the gate. I said hi over the gate and everything but his truck was so loud that he couldn't hear me. When he finally answered the phone after he had driven away he yelled at me. He said I was waiting outside forever and you didn't open the gate. I told him that I couldn't answer the phone because I was opening the gate for him. He kept arguing with me and I just kept explaining to him that he wasn't very good at being on the phone with people and he needed to be better at communicating if he wanted to keep his business open especially with review sites. He said and I quote with 1000% accuracy "I don't care you didn't have the gate open that's not my problem, and you didn't even tell me that it was a green gate" when I had in fact told him it was a building with a green gate. He's just rude and doesn't care about making money. Do not get services from this guy. read more

This review is for the patch up work Mike did for us. There were holes (from a TV mount and picture frames) that we wanted to get patched up and painted over, so we hired Mike. He came over fast and started right away, which was great. He patched it up fine, but he didn't check to see if the paint matched the paint on the walls and painted anyway. AND he painted areas where we didn't even ask him to (see photos). We now have to hire someone else to fix his sloppy work. On top of all of this, he has a bad attitude and is a pain to schedule (all the negative reviews for him here are all true). Definitely not hiring him again or referring him to anyone. read more

Mike Bunker is the jam. Was punctual and did exactly what was asked. I had him come install a doggie door for my pups in my new house - as there was no way I was comfortable putting a hole in my wall. Mike Bunker shows up and gets to work and gets in done in less than an hour - for a price that was so fair I paid him more than he asked of me. Then - because my house was on a raised foundation - I asked if he could build me a ramp to get the dogs down to ground level. The ramp showed up the next day built and ready to go. Yep, Mike Bunker is the real deal. Friendly, no-bull$h&t guy who can build or fix anything without making a fuss. What we love at our house is putting together a list of every little thing on our property that we wish could be fixed, stabilized, built or rebuilt, cut, hung, drilled, sawed, dug or shored up. And it's done. Why live with those shakey steps, that annoying thing that doesn't quite fit, or whatever you have been avoiding dealing with....? When I needed some trenches dug to prevent flooding in my garage during a big rainstorm, Mike just did it himself. Mike is a really helpful guy. He mounted a flat screen TV to my wall twice. Both times he also fixed up some other things in my house while he was there, and offered to fix my doorknob for free when he saw that it was loose. A friendly dude. I called Mike today for an estimate on installing an AC unit in the window of my apartment. The first thing that I noticed is that he made me feel like I was bothering him. He then proceeded to ask me questions about my windows and was telling me that I should use wood instead of plexiglass even though the window is in the front of my apartment building and that would look absolutely tacky. He went on to say that I must work during the day because I called him from a 323 area code and that was highly confusing because I don't know what that had to do with anything. He asked me if I lived in Long Beach and when I told him that I lived downtown he started to complain about the parking. I let him know that I have a space for him to park in and then he tells me his truck is probably too big. At this point I tell him that I am going to look elsewhere because it appears as if this is not a job he wants to do. Attention Animal Lovers!!! Before you hire this guy. This may give you some insight as to whom your allowing into your home to make repairs. It's your choice, please make an informed decision. Lately there have been missing cats in the neighborhood. This guy has admitted to the police that he is a cat trapper! As Per (LBPD) Officers that responded. He also denies shooting a cat multiple times out of his neighbors tree and allowing his dog maul it as soon as it hit the ground. I personally witnessed the cat being shot out of the tree and then his German Shepherd type dog mauling it that he claims he tried to stop. I immediately confronted him about it and he denied it was him, so I reported it to the police! As per the police, he said he trained his dog to "Tree" cats. He also said "He would bite me too if he was a dog". Please, Use Caution if you decide to allow this "Cat Trapper", or around your family. read more

And what's most amazing is that he knows what he's doing and is extremely efficient. Because he is so popular, you may need to wait a day or two to make an appointment, but when he arrives (and on time), you know his services were well worth the wait. I won't list all of the work he's done for me, but I will say that he's done everything from fixing my gate to installing wood flooring to replacing tile. You name it, he'll do it. I wonder about the positive reviews for this guy???? Are they friends of his? I wonder how this guy gets up in the morning and puts one foot in front of the other??? Okay called him on Monday and he said that he would call back Monday evening after a job he had and come by my house. Monday evening rolls around and no call.....so I called him at 8:30pm and asked what happened. His response "I forgot". Okay apparently you are not desperate for work. So we make plans for the next day which is Tuesday. He asked what time I preferred and I told him 8:00a.m He said he was concerned about finding parking which such a large truck, which didn't really make sense since that would be best time as everyone is leaving for work, but I didn't argue about it. We agreed to meet around 6:30 Tuesday evening. So I called him at 6:00 and said I would be leaving work soon. He said he would come after his next job. I ended up having a work emergency and didn't leave work till 6:30. I told him I would be home in 15. He said he was at my place and couldn't find parking (which is understandable I live in a congested area). I told him to please continue to look for parking and when I got home we could figure something out. I called him at 6:45p.m. and no response. I called him again at 7:00 no response.
