Update 9/3/23 - Rico messaged me asking me to take down my review because he feels it's unfair…read more I've updated the original review below and revised my review to remain accurate but remove some unnecessary details. --- I hate to be the first negative review, but I've now had three cancelled massage appointments in a row. July 5th - First appointment I can see why Rico receives so many positive reviews: he was warm and inviting, and I had a great session. I joined his monthly subscription plan and was looking forward to my next session, so I booked that day for a week later. July 12th - Second appointment (No show) I arrived at the clinic in Oak Park at 1:55pm for my 2:00pm appointment. I texted Rico to let him know I'd arrived, but didn't receive a response. After a few more texts over the 30 minutes, I finally left and assumed he had an emergency and wasn't able to come in. Rico finally responded 6 hours after my appointment, our conversation is summarized below: -- Rico: I got my wired crossed because I'm planning a vacation. Are you available at all FRI-TUES?" Stephen: I'm out of town starting today through Sunday but we can chat about booking when you're back. I waited for about 35 minutes in the lobby and walked back to the bathroom too to see if you were there" Rico then waited until 1:00AM to respond to the text with: Rico: Oops my bad, if you're interested I'll make monday work. -- I responded the next day and we confirmed a date and time that would work for the next appointment: Monday July 17th at 10am. July 17th - Third appointment (No show) I arrived at 9:48am for my 10am appointment and again texted Rico. I received no response over the next 20 minutes and headed back home. Rico texted me roughly 24 hours later at 7:06am with a message that he was in the hospital for heat exhaustion. My reply to him is inline below: -- Hey Rico, glad to hear that you're out of the hospital. I hope you're recovering well - health should always be a priority. Unforseen stuff happens (I called out sick today for a migraine), and I appreciate you letting me know. While I really value your work (the first massage was great!), I've now spent a bit of time commuting back and forth to the clinic and taking time off for services that were booked but not rendered. Since I've now had two missed appointments, are you open to considering a discounted or complimentary service for our next session? It'd help rebuild my trust in a monthly membership a lot. Open to discuss when you're feeling better and back to your normal routine. -- He replied with a single message: "Sure whatever you need Stephen. Take care". I followed up a day later asking how he wanted to proceed and he said he'd discount my next three sessions at 50% off. I decided to give it one more try, and booked another appointment for August 23rd at 4:15pm. August 23 - Fourth appointment (cancellation) As my appointment approached and given my previous two no-shows, I texted Rico at 10:44am to confirm. I followed up again at 12:12pm since I hadn't heard anything. At 1:14pm Rico responded that he wouldn't be available after all, saying that he was tired from his extensive traveling he just got back from. At this point, I've decided to cut ties with Rico and try out a different clinic. I'm bummed to be his first negative review, but I'm not willing to continue trying to get an appointment booked.

Okay so I'm starting off this review by saying I am a loyal customer of Travis. After he left his…read moreprior establishment I followed him to his new business. I have been going to him for almost 2 years and I have to say I continue going to him because of the amazing and thorough service I get. I say thorough because beyond just a massage I have multiple conversations with Travis regarding best practices when it comes to stretches, what I can do to help specific problem areas. For example my shoulder blade and clavicle area is constantly tight due to stress and hands down he's able to get those knots out and tension out of that area using a multitude of techniques through palm, hand, elbow, forearm, and different tools and lotions. So all that helps to loosen it but again he and I talk about proper practice and movement of that specific area to ensure that I am doing more self-care away from the table. He explains each movement, gives me exact examples, lets me practice in front of him to ensure that I'm doing the stretch, or movement, or placement of potential heating pads in the right area and giving me more specifics around how to ensure the logical way of doing it to get the most benefit. Also I will say that his space is superb. I have gone it multiple different times of day. I have gone at like 5:00 p.m., 11:00 a.m., and 1:00 p.m.. The building is in a great location where the ambiance of the amazing diffuser and music in the background take Center stage to really help you relax. I've never had any extra or excess noise from the street outside so my massage feels like I'm in my own little world being able to just enjoy and take time to myself while there. I will also add that there are additional items that you can use while there for example I mentioned them up above, there are CBD gels, warm bamboo, the heat therapy, cupping, and you can combine those in different ways. It's definitely good to look out for specials that he sends through his email or even Instagram so that you can potentially combine a few and try something that you may not have done before. For example not this time which was today January 15th when I went for my appointment at 11:00 a.m., the previous time I tried the warm bamboo add-on and it was amazing I decided to do it again today. So overall if you're looking for a new massage parlor, a masseuse that really takes the time to get to know your needs regarding not just massage but techniques outside of the table to ensure proper healing give Travis a try. Like I said I've been with him almost 2 years and am fully happy that I followed him.

He has a very soothing, calm demeanor, and is very knowledgeable when it comes to bodywork. His new solo clinic located near Southside Park is very clean and cozy. It is on the second floor of the Union Family Care & Wellness building, on the corner of 9th and T. There is a dedicated parking lot outside, which makes visiting incredibly easy! The interior of the clinic is beautifully decorated, with ambient spa music that isn't distracting. Travis offers a variety of different treatments, depending on what your goals are. I opted for the maintenance therapy. I typically like a moderate-firm pressure, and Travis nailed it. As someone who works in front of a computer for 10-hours a day, I always end up with tense shoulders/upper back. Travis was offering a grand opening special for add-on treatments, and I opted to try cupping for my problem areas, as well as hot stones and aromatherapy. It was a really great experience, and I left feeling much looser and relaxed. His technique is excellent, and I would highly recommend for anyone seeking to relieve muscle tension.

I initially started seeing him as my former employer offered onsite massage therapy. (I worked for an awesome company.) I benefitted from those brief sessions so much I began to see him at his location downtown. His location is a very calm, relaxing and peaceful place. I can't say enough about the benefits of massage being both physical and oddly (though not oddly) enough mentally too. We can hold tension in our body and sometimes it's released and you can become spontaneously emotional. When those "out of the blue" emotions happen Guy is very kind, non-intrusive but reassuring. I also will never be able to say enough kind things about Guy. ;-) I will never need to look for another massage therapist again. I have not gone in a while but rest assured, when I finally treat myself to massage therapy again, he's my Guy. (Tee hee hee)

I used to have a very steady and wonderful MT…read morewhen I lived in the East Bay, but upon making the 916 my residence, I had been searching for the best match for a massage therapist locally. Upon searching yelp to find businesses and feedback to select the best match, I was certainly excited to try a business that not only specialized in the services needed, but also has a name with, "magical hands" you can't go wrong with that title, right. . . I feel like I struggle with trying to find the best match for bodywork services. I have grown in my ability to be more assertive and communicate what I am looking for, but, massage is similar to the process of finding a new hair stylist. Not everyone is going to have the right technique, skills, or even personality. One of my reasons for not writing a review for this business sooner is that, quite honestly, the massage I received was forgettable. I had literally almost forgotten about this moment in time, until just this month, July 2025, I received a generic email from the business name and it was basically like, your birthday is coming up, blah blah, feel free to book an indulgence massage. - - - There was a mild personal issue that came up between my wife and I just before our scheduled times which delayed the massage start initially, and I had communicated that we could discuss rebooking, paying any late fees, etc with Alicia.... but she said it was fine to proceed with our services (one after the other). With that discussed, let me talk about how this magical handed massage went for me personally. - - - The first thing I noticed while laying face down in the cradle and starting out with the massage is how much ego came into play with this MT. Why is that important, you ask? Because when a massage therapist feels as though their combined experience and "intuition" leads to them giving the impression that they know what is best for the client, that is when issues arise. I will admit, one of my own weaknesses that I continually work on is having the confidence to speak up about issues during a massage. Unfortunately, when a massage doesn't match the clients needs, they should address the feedback constructively and hopefully take that feedback to create better experiences in the future. I really had to think and rewrite my intentional review to reflect on what was missing during the service. A review should be a representation of the actual experience, positively or negatively, and not a personal response. I had mentioned that I wanted swedish and I enjoy a light movement, known as effleurage, which basically just translates to I like a soft massage, with light strokes, often using just palms and to feel restful. Alicia kept mentioning how she would "get in there" to basically work on any knots she could feel. I didn't come in for deep tissue, heavy pressure points, or sports massage. Even after communicating that I didn't need that extra pressure, just keep it to a Swedish style, she continued to be heavy handed with her strokes. My biggest observation in all of this is to mention that Alicia with all of her experience lacks the ability to listen to each person's needs. But for new clients, trying to find a local massage therapist in town with a great reputation and tons of experience, I look for that honest written feedback online to make my scheduling decision. For these reasons, I wanted to share my own experience with Jardins Magical Hands so that others reading this can make their own informed decisions with personalized results. Thank you for reading!
