I felt compelled to write this review, because I was misled by all the five-star reviews here, and I wanted to do this as a service to others who might be considering going to this man.
I am visiting DC for work, and I lost a veneer. I went to Dr Renis to put in a temporary veneer to hold me until I'm back home.
At first, he tried to sell me a new permanent veneer. The price was $1,250, which happens to be exactly the same as what I paid my dentist at home. But my dentist is known as being one of the most expensive cosmetic dentists in Beverly Hills.
So I elected to just get a temporary veneer.
I was put in the chair and immediately told by the dental assistant that the doctor wants to take an X-ray. I couldn't imagine why that would be necessary, so I declined.
A half hour later, the doctor came in, and he said "tell me about your tooth that is hurting... or whatever the problem is."
So he was having an X-ray done without even knowing why I was there!!!! (I wasn't there for a tooth that was hurting; I just needed a temporary veneer.)
I told him I wanted a temporary veneer, and he said OK, then left the room to take care of 2 or 3 other patients.
He came back and spent about 15 minutes making my temporary veneer. He seemed extremely rushed.
At the end, he showed me, and it was HORRIFIC.
The color of the temporary veneer was 3 to 4 shades darker than the rest of my teeth.
And the shape of the veneer was bizarrely inappropriate for my smile. The veneer he sculpted was much, much smaller than the surrounding teeth.
Now, when I smile, it looks like I have a brown deformed tooth in the middle of a bright white healthy smile.
When he gave me a mirror to look at it, I immediately asked why the color was so dark.
He was extremely defensive.
He said the problem is that my dentist in LA made the veneers much too light. He said he never would have chosen a color so light.
He then explained that it is "impossible" using the composite material that temporary veneers are made from to match the light color of the rest of my (permanent) veneers.
I asked again, and he said this is the lightest he can get it. And he repeated that he disapproved of how light the rest of my (permanent) veneers are. (I paid $30,000 total for all of them, and I'm totally happy with how they look.)
He had not told me this in advance. And he seemed not to make any effort to make the new veneer fit in with the surrounding teeth.
I reluctantly paid the $250 (!!) bill and left the office.
I then spoke with my dentist in LA, who is a respected authority on dental veneers.
He said that it ABSOLUTELY is possible to match the light color of my teeth with a temporary veneer. He said the temporary veneer material comes in a full range of colors--and it can be "stained" white even if the dentist doesn't have a material light enough.
I immediately called Dr Renis's office. I was told he was with patients but would call me back as soon as he can.
Three hours later, he called.
I told him what my dentist said, and he - again - got super defensive.
"Well he's there, and I'm here, so that doesn't matter what he thinks. Besides, the tooth is protected, which is what's important."
I explained that I just want a temporary veneer that will not attract attention. (I can't go to business meetings with a big bright perfect smile that has one brown deformed tooth right in the front!!)
He said he might possibly be able to get it a little bit lighter if I came in again tomorrow, but it definitely won't match the color of my teeth.
Whoah. He had told me earlier there was no possible way to get it lighter. Why was he going to have me come back in??
That immediately became clear...
He then went on to say that his temporary secretary made a mistake when she allowed me to pay with a personal check.
"I don't know you, and I have no way of knowing whether that check will go through. I need you to pay me with a credit card."
So THAT is the reason he was trying to get me to come back in tomorrow.
Clearly, nothing had changed since earlier, when he said it cannot possibly be made lighter.
But we all know that untrustworthy people are untrusting of others. And he was concerned about my personal check.
He completely didn't care about the fact that he did a terrible job.
Tomorrow, I will be going to another dentist to remove the temporary veneer he created and make another one.
And I have stopped payment on the check he was afraid would not go through.
I hope this is helpful for those considering going to see Dr Remis. read more
