Instead of speaking encouraging words and giving reassurance, he only bragged about his awards and told me the treatment that I needed was a "small fry" to him and either I get it done or I don't. The nice dental assistant told me that they offered mild sedation in their LaPlata office if I would opt to go there! Once I arrived at the LaPlata office, I sat in my car until it was my turn to go in. (COVID policy) As I got inside the exam room, the dental hygienist and another dental assistant came in. No introduction or anything. She leaned my chair back and told me to open my mouth so I can get a cleaning. As she started my teeth, she had a series of coughs, non stop. It was only until I moved my head that she got up and continued to cough outside the exam room. When she came back in, she proceeeded to finish with the same exact cough. I then tilted my head again, and she removed herself. ( as a hygienist, who thinks it's okay to cough repeatedly while someone mouth is open and you guys are face to face ) Once finished, a new dentist came inside and examined my mouth to create my dental plan. As she was examining my mouth, she kept asking a series of questions and instead of allowing me to answer, she just answered for me and kept on moving. When I received my dental plan, I asked about sedation. ( the only reason why I came to LaPlata ) I was then told that I would have to get EVERYTHING done on my dental treatment (which was only fill-ins and wisdom teeth removal). I told them I was unable to afford the $7,000 bill they gave me. Could I only get my wisdom teeth removed as that was the reason I came to see a dentist. I was once again told that it was either I get all the treatment plan done or nothing. When asked why, it was stated that it's his practice he does whatever he wants. I asked what about the patients who have anxiety, and can't even sit still once the noise of the drill comes on, I was told to find another dentist. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRACTICE TO ANYONE WHO SUFFERS FROM DENTAL ANXIETY OR DOESN'T HAVE A TON OF MONEY SITTING AROUND TO SPEND IMMEDIATELY

The office staff was friendly and helpful as well - they were great about reminding me of my appointment and making sure I could find the office (the elevators are near the USPS location in L'Enfant Plaza - there are different wings but their wing has a sign pointing you to the right elevator bank). If your office transparent about procedure, should verify all the information before start treatment. Again you are not acknowledging not confirming insurance information and treatment plan upfront. This is unacceptable. Also don't treat us differently just because of our ethnicity.

I choose this place because they had good reviews from other people with dental anxiety. The first two visits, I saw a female doctor I couldn't catch her name. She and her assistant put me at relative ease. She did x-rays, a deep cleaning, a removal, and bone graft. I managed to sit through it without freaking out, largely due to the demeanor of the dentist. My hands were shaking but they gave me a stress ball to squeeze and I made it through. Next I was scheduled to return and get the stitches removed and some fillings done. After the bone graft took, she planned to do an implant. The work order was written up and approved by me. But on the day of my visit, I got a call saying the female dr was out on a family emergency. But I'd be seen by Dr Lim. Ok... Well, Dr Lim came into the room. The dental assistant told me that he was quiet, but was a great dentist who specialized in root canals. I was already nervous, and Dr Lim's bedside manner did not improve. First, he wasn't just quiet, he kept dropping and adjusting my chair without warning, jerking my body around. Without reviewing notes, he removed the stitches (I had to tell them where they were). Then looked at xrays, and growled, "I'm going to do a root canal." and left the room. The front desk lady came in with a new work order and cost estimate. Dr Lim basically ignored everything that the other dentist did, and just wanted to do a root canal in a tooth that the other dentist didn't mention. When I asked about the other work, the desk lady fetched the paperwork. Together, with the root canal and cap, planned implant, and fillings, it was more than I could swing. At this point, my anxiety was very high. Dr Lim came back in the room to explain why I needed the root canal. He pointed to the x-rays, which I don't know how to read. He said, in a very hostile tone, that if I didn't get it fixed, the cavity would just get worst. He said he didn't see the point of the planned implant when I needed other work on teeth that were closer to the front of my mouth. During our interaction, he demonstrated that he hadn't reviewed my prior treatment notes by saying he'd address a problem with my teeth that the other dentist had already fixed (but still showed up on the original x-rays). I didn't give consent, so Dr Lim left the room. I decided to just leave with the stitches being removed, and not get any more dental work done that day. I wasn't prepared for a root canal, having gone in expecting a mild day of fillings. Before I left, I expressed that my confidence was shaken by the fact that the two different dentists didn't agree on a single plan of action for what work was the highest priority. I have no doubt that I need a fair amount of work, but I wasn't happy with the first doctor's treatment plan being belittled by the second doctor. The front desk lady said she'd bring the issue to the head dentist, Dr Sanna, and ask him to prioritize dental work with the two doctor's differing plans in mind. She said she'd get back to me Monday (it was Friday). I left, and proceeded to have a full blown panic attack. No one from the dentist office called me to follow up on the issue. Not that Monday, or in the weeks after.

He then sold his business and I didn't like the new owners because it went from being a friendly place to cold and sterile. And they were always trying to sell me on non-insured products like whiteners, etc. So I knew that I wanted to find a practice in DC that was professional and friendly, like my childhood dentist. I was very lucky to find Cohen & Cohen, and specifically Dr. Sara. She clearly is a skilled dentist and is a nice person. All of the hygienists do a great job too. When I did have a question about teeth whitening, Dr. Sara took her time to explain the options without any expectation that I would purchase anything. The front desk has been able to schedule me the same day or the next day when I've had a dental "emergency" of a chipped front tooth. The fix by Dr. Sara is so good that I can't tell where the chip was in the tooth. Also she's had to put in a crown. I have friends who've needed to go back several times to their dentists (not Cohen & Cohen) to have the permanent crown refitted because the mold wasn't made quite correctly. That did not happen to me. The permanent crown fit perfectly the first time and I haven't had any issues. I definitely recommend this practice if you are looking for a new dentist.

I am genetically missing 5 adult teeth (all in the front) and had bone & gum graft…read moresurgery/implants/crowns put in 10 years ago by Dr. Gyuricza. To put it lightly, Dr. Gyuricza's work was completely botched. Fast forward 10 years, it was time to replace my crowns. I was referred to Dr. Moini by my best friend's mom. I was in the market for a skilled Prosthodontist b/c I didn't want to just go with any general dentist who had a great before & after gallery. My previous doctor was a referral & had a great before & after gallery on his website but still did a horrendous job. This time around, I needed to see the 'after' in real life and I had my best friend's mom as living proof. I met Dr. Moini & his staff (Gloria & Sabrina) and immediately went with him and I'm really glad I did. Dr. Moini made me feel comfortable and not only that, he was mortified at my crowns that my previous doctor had placed in... so much that he couldn't stop staring at it during my first appt b/c it was bothering him that much! He also noticed that gums around my implant/crowns were in bad shape, something that my general dentist completely missed. Only after a deep cleaning by his dental hygienist Mary, a special toothbrush and instructions on how to floss around my crowns, did my gums heal. The provisionals (temporary crowns) that he placed looked 100x better than my old crowns. Dr. Moini ended up replacing 1 abutment (saved the other 2 abutments), and all the crowns.The entire process did take a few months for me to get my permanent crowns b/c the shape & shade of the crowns had to be an extremely close match, but it is worth the wait so definitely be patient. It takes time for perfection! Dr. Moini was extremely easy to work with. He answered my plethora of questions, complaints, comments, & suggestions during each appointment. Today, I finally got my final permanent crown in and I am extremely happy with the results. There were definitely a lot of obstacles that he & Tom had to work to overcome during the whole process, including finding a replacement abutment for my old implants (during which Dr. Moini spent HOURS calling every company out there and ended up ordering from Europe I believe) and Tom had to come probably 4-5x to meet with me to ensure he was getting the shade & shape of the crown perfectly. Dr. Moini had Tom remake my crowns THREE times so this shows that he will make sure you're happy with the crowns and stick with you until you are satisfied. I know MANY doctors out there will not redo any crown let alone three, and they will permanently cement the crown after 2-3 visits even if you're not happy with them. Off the bat, I could tell that Dr. Moini is extremely gentle & meticulous with his work and that Gloria (his dental assistant) is also very detail oriented with her work as well. She will make a great dental hygienist in the future! If you're unsure or on the fence about Dr. Moini, look no more and go with him, you will NOT be disappointed!
