My family and I had to leave this practice after several years. They either were not aware of the health risks associated with the x-ray radiations or the x-ray instrument was a source of their income. The office manager and the hygienists assume that the patients are required to take their "medical advice!" to undergo wellness radiations in order to comply with ADA's recommendation. The problem was that they neither were able to produce clear x-ray images nor they were able to analyze it. This fact came clear to us when other dentists got the chance to observe the x-ray images which were taken at this practice. The last wellness x-ray at my routine visit did not show the targeted areas completely and the hygienist who was in charge of my husband's cleaning, exposed him 14 times to harmful radiations to make 4 blurry bitewings in order to comply with ADA's recommendation!!! As a concerned and responsible parent I suggested to my young son that he'd refuse such "medical advice", but it was an insult to the hygienist and the manager. Once I even heard that they made fun of my son for taking his mother's advice in hopes of changing his mind. When my son went for his last cleaning, the hygienist told me that a cavity was a possibility but our dentist could not be sure without an x-ray and she made me sign a form which she stated that it was for their protection to release the office from any liability. Of course, I requested an x-ray appointment to confirm the cavity, who wouldn't? however, they charged us $128 for a single x-ray since apparently, our dentist had claimed that he did not need an x-ray to confirm his diagnosis and we wasted his time. The time we took off from work to drive to this clinic another day was worthless to them. Later, the office manager clearly stated that this was the consequence of refusing their "medical advice" and they did not need an x-ray to confirm the cavity this time. I wish we had known these people sooner because this practice was not even in our dental insurance network for the last two years. My positive feedback which they asked me to post on the practice website three years ago is invalid from now on. read more

If I could give a ten-star rating for Dr. Corrigan, I would without reservation. My husband and I have been in his care for 15 years. Why? Because he is by far the best dentist we have ever entrusted with our oral health care. Unlike my previous Bethesda-based dentist, who maximized profits by optimizing production over quality, Dr. Corrigan is thorough and attentive. He takes his time while minimizing discomfort. Rework is never needed. Moreover, he does not recommend costly procedures unless they are absolutely necessary. Lastly, he takes a personal interest in his patients and cultivates a relationship built upon integrity and trust. I trust Dr. Corrigan implicitly and REALLY like him. As to the staff, they are top notch and have been constant since I became a patient there. NO TURNOVER. Maria, Mandy and Ellie are a HUGE part of the reason I am so loyal to this practice. Ellie (Elham Karimi, RDH) is not only my dental hygienist, she has become a very dear friend and kindred spirit. I love her. I cannot overstate my recommendation for Dr. Corrigan and his brilliant staff at Capital Dental Bethesda. read more

I recommend the Capital Dental group enthusiastically! Because of my terrible teeth, I'm a frequent patient of Dr. Conaghan, and a regular with Dr. Varney..Capital Dental has a super friendly staff. It's so amazing and so obvious the whole team really enjoys working together and they always make you feel right at home. Dr. Conaghan is incredibly skilled, He uses all the latest in tooth technology for diagnosis and treatment. I've had fillings, root canals, crowns and implants and have always left the office with tremendous confidence, feeling that I got the right and best solution to my dental challenges. And the doctors are always careful to make sure about my one *big* thing: NO pain! Because of my good experiences, I got my whole family into the practice. It's HARD to find a great dentist. I'm a "veteran patient" of dentistry and have been to numerous dentists in my life for bridges, crowns, root canals and implants. Dr. John Conaghan is without question the best dentist I've ever been to. He exudes an assured confidence and warmth about him that puts you immediately at ease and creates a sense of trust from the very first appointment. While his work is impeccable, what is equally impressive is the way he manages his practice and staff. He sets a tone of friendless and professionalism that makes the interaction with staff a pleasant and painless experience as possible. Without question I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking the "best of the best" dental care. read more

Dr. Varney is the best dentist I've ever gone to. He always answers my questions and curiosities, asks about me and my family, and makes sure I get the best care for my various dental needs. I've gotten cleanings, fillings, a night guard, and most recently a less invasive crown alternative on a root canal tooth, whereas other dentists probably would have just done a crown and chipped away most of my tooth. The staff there is so friendly and always remembers me when I call and come in. I would definitely recommend Dr. Varney, he has made me actually look forward to going to the dentist. Keep up the great work! read more

I am glad I came to this dental office. I visited 2 months ago for a second opinion for a crown. I don't like the traditional crown that other dental office offers. I really want to save my teeth as much as I can, so Dr. Conaghan and Dr. Nazmi explained to me about cerec crown, so I made the decision to have it done that day. I am happy I did. All staff are nice, office are clean, and Drs. spent time to explain everything so you understand what they will do. I came back yesterday for a routine cleaning and had a wonderful experience again with Dr. Nazmi and all the staff in this dental office. read more

I broke off a piece of a crown late at night. The next morning I had an appointment for 10am (which I changed to 2:30). By 3:30 I had a new crown molding, the temporary installed and 100% satisfaction with my new dentist, Dr. John Conaghan. The entire experience from the morning I called to the checkout at the end was handled professionally and empathetically. They really understood the urgent nature of getting my broken tooth replaced quickly and worked with me to ensure my insurance would cover it. And btw, this was easily the most comfortable crown work I've ever experienced. read more

I have had the pleasure of having long-term relationships with several excellent dentists over my 60 years but Dr. Corrigan is my favorite. He combines knowledge, skill, and professionalism with a kind and gentle chair-side manner. Plus, he's just a plain nice guy! In the two years I've been his patient he's done check-ups, an extraction, and several crowns. I've been very happy with all of his work. He always keeps me informed of what I need to do for my oral health yet is not pushy or salesman like. Highly recommend. read more

I was recently referred to Dr. Varney by my wife's oral surgeon, Dr. Eskow. I was looking for a new dental practice since my office location was moving from Sterling VA to Bethesda MD. Wow, am I glad I found Capital Dental! Mandy greeted me and helped me get all the paperwork ready before I showed up for my appointment. Ellie worked on my teeth and she was fantastic! And Dr. Varney gave me an evaluation and a plan for some future work - that is now already scheduled! Awesome practice. Awesome people! I lucked out! read more

Dr. Corrigan has been my family dentist for a long time. He has always been a true professional! Even through "not so easy" appointments! I am lucky to have been blessed with Ellie the hygienist! She always has a wonderful disposition and makes the time in the chair fly! I always feel like a kid as I leave with a goodie bag full of dental care items! The staff are always happy to greet you as you walk in the door! I would highly recommend Capital Dental! They are the best! read more

My family and I have been coming to this practice for as long as I can remember. I highly recommend them to all my friends and coworkers. The front desk staff and the hygienists are always friendly, and the dentists are top notch. I don't feel like I'm being oversold like some dentists tend to do. I mostly see Dr. Varney now who is very nice and takes the time to explain what any issues are and the best course of treatment. Overall I would highly recommend this practice! read more

My wife had a cracked tooth that began to hurt alot. We received excellent care and prompt treatment from Dr. Nazmi and her team. Dr. Nazmi saw how much my wife was hurting and gave us full attention to stabilize the issue. She also helped us to arrange for emergency oral surgery. We were very impressed with Dr. Nazmi and appreciate her efforts to take prompt control of the situation. We will now definitely come back to Dr. Nazmi for other dental services. read more

It was my first time at this practice, and I will make it as primary doctor. Excellent customer service from the staff, they were very pleasant. The lady who did my cleaning was very patient with me because I have sensitivity. I appreciate how Dr. Nazim was taking her time with me explaining to me in detail all the procedure needed. The front desk lady was very kind and took the initiation to contact my insurance on my behalf. Overall I had a great experience. read more

I have been going to this dental practice twice a year for the past 8 years (as does my husband). Dr. Connaghan and his dental hygienists are professional, efficient and highly competent. Today, I had a filling taken care of in less than 20 minutes. You're in good hands- they never aggressively push expensive treatments, and they don't push x-rays unless you need them. An added bonus is the convenience- a short walk from NIH or the Bethesda Metro. -YD read more

Very courteous and professional experience. Sue the hygienist was understanding even though I arrived 15-20 minutes late. Thorough job of cleaning. Dr. Varney is friendly, straightforward in describing what his observations are from his examination, and not the least bit condescending. Highly recommended practice. Conveniently located as well, and the office staff is quite friendly--even to a patient that arrives late. read more

The hygienisr and dentist were very thorough in their explanation of my dental health. As well, the hygienist paid special attention to the fact that I have had negative experiences with other dental care, and I have a reluctance to visit the dentist. This dentist seems very knowledgable. My teeth are extra -sensitive. The cleaning was excellent. I will be returning to complete the work I need done. read more

Dr. Varney is an extraordinarily gentle and thoughtful dentist who always has his patient's well being in mind. This is a wonderful, slow paced, unhurried practice and I sometimes felt I was in a time warp because there is not all the scurrying around you normally see in a dental office these days. The staff are always helpful, responsive and supportive. I hope they always stay this way. read more
