These people are bottom feeding scum they are the worst of the worst. They bullied my elderly parents into buying a system for $20000. That was around 2017 and it has not worked properly since installation. I called them to send out a crew to evaluate and fix the problem. Which I'm pretty sure were gang members, they pretended not to speak English. They didn't tell me what they had done to fix anything, except they slapped me with a $400 bill, which I refused to pay as they would not even give me a receipt. Needless to say, the system was not fixed. Do not trust these people. Again, they are scum, they are the worst of the worst. There are much better options out there. We got a solar hot water system with this company in 2012. They used high pressure sales tactics and we fell for it. We agreed to the prices they quoted for both a hot water system and solar panels. On the day of the installation, they informed us that the discussed price was not what we would be paying. It was what they thought we would pay after rebates from the government. We canceled the panels and got the hot water system. That system ended up dying on us a few years later and we ended up going without hot water for 9 months while trying to get it fixed. Occasionally this company still calls us. They are pushy and rude. It's 2025. They're still trying to sell us stuff and being argumentative. Save yourself the headache. Go with someone reliable that has good customer service. Read the responses to the many bad reviews on here if you want to know the kind of service and accountability that you get. Charging $17,000 for 5 solar panels that are delivering .1kw, is definitely NOT what was promised in their delivery. Turning over the SREC to Renewable and getting nothing in the way of power from the solar panels. If they come knocking on your door, run in the opposite direction. Received nothing from the incentives, only paying another electric bill in the form of paying for a loan that should not have been more than $5000. read more

I am flummoxed by the negative reviews. this company has beeen a model for customer service in my recent experience. maybe it is more expensive but in my eyes you get what you pay for and as with any negative review, I'd take that with a grain of salt as their claims can often be inflated. Predatory marketing. The salesperson called himself a "Director of Marketing" and claimed that he came to offer us a special 30% discount to be ambassadors for our neighborhood- leave a few reviews and serve as a reference. But don't tell others what we paid- since they wouldn't get the same price. The 30% was marked off a ridiculously inflated price, higher than the next lowest estimate by 80%. Even with the "30% discount" they were the highest estimate, and offered us the lowest capacity system. They further misrepresented the expected energy savings- two-fold higher than the online government calculator. They further claimed that we would need to upgrade our electrical panel to be up to code (at a cost of 4000), which turns out to be completely unnecessary. Select a different company. Unfortunately we inherited this company as a service provider. First thing they did was try to force us to buy a cell kit for $650.00 so we could monitor our system.... When we could connect to WiFi for FREE. They never even mentioned it. Scammy upsell. System wasn't working when we bought the house. Paid full price for them to come out (they offer discounts for giving them fake unearned reviews, crazy why would I give you 5 stars before doing business) $250.00 charge and they didn't fix it, 2 more months of bills rolled in and they reply, too bad we normally don't even deal with people who inherit paid for systems.... Renewable energy has us prepared & ready for winter! We were pleasantly surprised when we found out Renewable Energy offered a battery back up system as an option to store energy with from our new solar panels after they were installed. Not to mention, they were the only company we found to also help us with a new roof that was needed before we could install solar panels. The federal & state incentives alone covered up to 60% of the battery cost which we weren't expecting to be able to afford. Between the new roof, solar, and battery we feel at ease in knowing we'll be prepared for any storm or power outage from now on. read more

I'd steer clear of this company. They use high-pressure selling tactics and their prices are way above the market average. I got five quotes from separate companies and Renewable Energy Corporation was at least two times as expensive as the other quotes by kW. The salesman who showed up at my house insisted he was not a salesman, but an "energy analyst." The company's pitch is they wanted to make my home a "showcase home" and be part of a study. By participating in the study, I would get a 30% discount but the offer was good if I purchased on the spot. and signed an agreement. The agreement came with several conditions, to include: a written letter of recommendation, five referrals of neighbors/friends, a job sign to be "prominently displayed on your property" for four weeks, allowing the company to bring potential customers to your house for a one year period. After an hour and a half of hard-selling, I asked the salesman to wrap things up and he still took another 20 minutes. I also asked him several questions, including what professional certifications the company had, which he said he would get back to me about. It has been over a week and I haven't heard back. My guess is if they don't sign someone the day of the sales-call, they are unlikely to get any takers. Bottom line: I can't speak to the quality of their work, but I refuse dealing with their sales games. read more

I have no do doubt that these guys know their stuff and have done solid installations. But their approach to selling feels a bit predatory. Some examples: - they called me at least 3x daily until I answered the phone to discuss a solar project. I expected the call to basically be a discussion of my needs and a quick assessment/quote; instead, it involved them telling me why every other provider (and every other option of installation other than theirs) was inferior. - I also expected the onsite visit to be a quick review of my roof and a quick quote. Instead, the guy took 90 minutes and basically threw a bunch of numbers at me, a huge volume of technical specs on their installations, and a "one time only" deal of 30 percent off my installation in exchange for a customer reference (but I needed to sign that very moment - it basically felt like a car dealership). - all in all, the price they provided, even with the discount, was about 50 percent higher than any other quote I've gotten from any other installer. I know enough about solar installations to know that there's isn't any set of technology or installation that is worth that premium. It's also probably no surprise that they've not reached out to me since - even though I said I'd look it over. Their business model seems to thrive on signing up uninformed customers that are wowed by modest discounts on an enormous price premium. I'd steer clear of them. read more

I can't speak for the quality of Renewable Energy's solar panels but I can say their prices are high and I did not appreciate the hard sales approach. After requesting general information on a solar website, Renewable Energy called asking when they could send a technician to the house to inspect the roof. The "technician" / sales person (energy consultant) did not inspect the roof but immediately started scribbling costs and savings on a notepad. It was helpful to receive information on solar in general, but a few things he said were simply untrue: a) they were basically the only company I would find in the area that could install solar panels on a flat roof b) We would get "locked into an SREC rate" now and keep this rate, guaranteed, at least until 2029 c) we were the first house in our neighborhood selected to be part of a special program and as such would benefit from a very competitive price (which, according to the contract, we weren't allowed to discuss) While the salesman was friendly and helpful, he also made it sound like we needed to sign immediately to lock in the great price and participate in the program. Further research provided quotes from multiple other companies with similar prices for DOUBLE the system size. Renewable Energy assured me that 2kW would be sufficient, which would not have been the case. All other companies suggested 4.5kW for about the same price as Renewable Energy's 2kW system. I recommend to do your due diligence and gather quotes from several companies before signing anything. read more

There are lots of solar options in the DC area, so I'd go with someone else. REC's quotes were more than others, and they seemed to know less about installation. I'm sure they're legitimate, just think other options are better. The sales guy was pushy, and kept changing the estimates based on a discount where you had to sign right then and there. How should I start this one off? DON'T.OPEN.YOUR.DOOR! A complete scam and waste of our time. We made it clear from the time of the SALESMAN'S arrival that we just wanted more information about the panels and how the process worked. We were then hit with multiple sale ploys from pitching us price reductions to the "Once I leave your home, I can't offer you this price again" scheme. Once we AGAIN flat out declined and then he had to call his boss to "tell him that this was a trust issue with us and that we didn't trust the company". What a crock lol! I mean these people are something else. While he made his fake phone call we told him that it was time for him to leave because we had an appointment to keep. He sat back down on our couch and proceeded to ask why we weren't interested...AGAIN! This joker even admitted to not being a manager (or whatever he claimed to be) and said, "Ok, you've got me; I'm a salesman! So what's it gonna take..." Sad to say we lost out on the deal of a lifetime to have solar panels installed at the low cost of $50k for like FOUR PANELS smh. I'm sure you catch my drift by now that this is a waste. The sales guy was nice enough, but I am so sick of receiving the hard sell treatment when I clearly inform them (multiple times) up front that I am just doing due diligence and gathering information. I don't want to spend 3 hours seeing multiple estimates - just give me your number. I LIKE the product - especially the battery options - and when I am ready to spend that much money I'll let you know....HATE the sales approach. Notice their response accuses me of not wanting ALL the information, but ignores the fact that it was their APPROACH I did not appreciate. Hard sell: Check. Misrepresented the PG County solar tax credit as immediately available: Check (it's capped at $250K/yr. countywide and has "has been fully subscribed till 2020" according to a 2015 post at the DOE website). Told a story about how he "didn't receive a commission", how I would be one of the few "marketing test cases" and receive a discount but only if I ordered right then and there: Check. Had no engineering study to inform how much power my (often shaded) roof would generate, but could somehow predict how many SCRECs I would sell per year: Check. And finally, claimed that their POWER FACTOR CORRECTION device (which has nothing to do with solar power and has been shown by NIST to be worthless for residential customers) would cut my electric bill: Check. Not impressed. Never purchase anything from someone hawking a power factor correction device. read more

I had not planned on getting solar panels installed when representatives visited our community but I was willing to learn more about how I could benefit from having them with the thought that I would consider them in the future. This company surprised me, I found everyone I spoke to knowledgeable and friendly. The representative that came to my home provided me several options with detailed information on each, there was no pressure to make a decision, no harsh sales pitch. I just felt like my friend was explaining why this was a good idea and left to make the decision on my own. Once I signed my papers there was very little left for me to do, they did all the permits and submitted the information to my HOA. The day of installation, everything was installed quickly and professionally. There has been excellent communication throughout the entire process, someone is always available to help me if I call with a question and I get the feeling they appreciate me as a customer and will continue to assist me with anything I need.  There are a lot of choices for solar on the market today, beyond the technology I believe this company provides customer service and wants to have a relationship with you for all the years they service your home. read more

It was a pleasure doing business with Renewable Energy. The process went very smoothly, the crew installed the panels quickly and cleaned up afterward. Since the solar panels have been installed, we are seeing the expected savings in our electric bill. In addition, I really like being able to monitor our energy production. Our existing electric panel couldn't handle the additional requirements of the solar installation and the process of getting our panel upgraded was coordinated by Renewable Energy and completed quickly, and at a very fair price. Initially, after the installation we had an issue with the monitoring system, Renewable Energy was very responsive and got it up and working within a couple days. IF you are thinking about a solar energy alternative - please call RENEWABLE ENERGY Corporation. My husband and I been talking about solar energy for years-just never pulled the trigger. We live south of Annapolis Maryland -1 mile from the Chesapeake Bay - lots of tall trees so we were unsure if our roof would be ideal for solar panels. I saw the Renewable Energy booth at a fair and signed us up to meet with a REP to discuss solar panels. The Rep that met with us was very knowledgeable about their product, the entire process, the cost and the energy savings opportunities, so we bought the solar panel sstem that evening. In just a day or two a test of total solar exposure on each section of our roof was made and we setup the installation date. On the day of installation all of Maryland received several inches of snow overnight. Upon arrival the crew had to shovel the driveway (which they cheerfully did) to be able to bring their trucks in and the roof before they could begin with solar panel installation. Although this delayed their start time, the crew proceeded with the roof install of solar panels and an addition to the electric panel inside the garage. Most work was done that first day and a small crew came back to finish the following morning. Both garage and outside areas were completely cleaned when they were done and they tested the monitoring equipment before leaving. All applications for permits& inspections from the county and all paperwork required by our Electric provider were handled or coordinated by Renewable Energy Corporation. Anne Arundel County inspections were completed the day following installation. At this time we are awaiting a BG&E new electric meter installation that can register when we start returning energy instead of just using it! We are very happy with the look of our solar panels and how pleasant the entire installation was. Thank you Renewable Energy Corporation! You have a great product and Excellent employees. My family was extremely pleased with the services provided by REC. From the initial presentation to the final installation, REC was overly attentive to detail because of my hesitance in having solar put on the front of my home. They were professional and pleasant to deal with. I was very involved in the entire process and even had multiple conversations with the president and vp of there company. That is something that really set them apart in our eyes! The quality of their products was also a HUGE selling point! Do not waste your time with a power purchase agreement or solar lease, REC was able to affordably install a 3.3kw solar array on my home for around the same cost of my monthly energy bill! When you include the state and county incentives it actually put more money in my pocket then if I had never done it in the first place. "this price is only good while I'm here"..nice guy, but a scam. which I got that feeling about half way thru his 3 hour pitch...I told him many times give me your price or I'm throwing you out.. once we got down to pricing it was like being at a used car sales lot, the price dropped and he said if I walk out this price isn't any long good...okay get out. then the price dropped again to a lower number. I very much enjoyed working with Renewable Energy Corporation (NEC) on my solar installation. Everyone I dealt with was friendly, very helpful and knowledgeable. We had some weather issues that impacted the install, but they were very flexible in working around that and finishing the work on time. They did not skimp on materials. My array is on my disconnected garage so there was some concern about where different inspectors might want cut-offs, so they installed 3 to make sure there would be no issue. And the circuit they installed between the house and garage has plenty of capacity for future growth, about 5 times. The whole process was fairly quick. I believe it came in under three months from the initial sales call to energizing the system. I started the process a couple months after my sister started the process of installing solar on her house and my system went live a couple of months before hers! Now almost 2 years after the install (which by the way is running great) I called looking for some information about a totally unrelated system in another state and it was a tough question so they said they'd have to get back to me. In practically no time the vice president called me to give me the information he was able to find based on his research! Good people! read more

Renewable Energy Corporation over-charged us! They said that by us agreeing to allow others to view our installation ,they would cut the price almost by half. Even with that, and the tax credits, it turns out we almost paid double what other companies sell their panels for. As far as PEPCO cutting us a check at the end of each year because we would be generating more energy than we could use... we have NEVER EVER EVER received a check from PEPCO! And I am still paying off the loan for the installation, and this has cost us way more then it was worth, and we have yet to re-coop any benefits or saving from our panels!!!! DO NOT USE RENEWABLE ENERGY CORPORATION IN MARYLAND FOR SOLAR. THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF. If you read some of the other reviews on this page, you can see it is some sort of form-letter they are filling out. DO NOT DO ANY BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY! I honestly wonder if what they are doing is even legal. It seemed criminal. 1. His "facts" were wrong: ROI, KW demand. He wasn't sure about hooking up any additional types of electrical generation, i.e. Wind. 2. He used the "buy today for 6K less" con. (Mentioning that he would have to drive his Audi an hour to come to our home, therefore it would cost him [6K!] to return the following weekend? 3. He REFUSED to show us their BLANK contract. 4. He REFUSED to let us see the warranty until the day of installation. 5. He REFUSED to break down the numbers unless we signed a contract first. 6. . The man told us that his clients were mostly retired. (People who are not likely to check these reviews?) 7. Worse - while he was stating that he "sold largely to retirees", he was pleased with his 6 figure income, and his "superior" car! He went as far as to insinuate that if we could afford the solar panels, why didn't we buy a better car? 8. He hinted that his customers sometimes fed him, so I then offered to share what we were eating (we are dieting). He cringed and berated our choice of foods. 9. The cherry on top? He asked us why we wouldn't do it. I said "it felt dishonest" and he replied "So what! If you like the product and you like the price, why do you care if it's DISHONEST?" WOW!!! 10. We asked him to leave multiple times and it still took another 10 to 15 minutes to get him out the door because he used the same game "gotta call my boss" (to speak rudely about our indecisiveness) The most terrifying aspect of this encounter is that we might have fallen for it, had we not read other Yelp! We like this company because we actually own our solar panels and have the option of getting the battery back up system. They installed 8 panels and this was done quick and professionally. They did not have the best weather to install the panels at the time but they still did a great job. They have always been there to answer questions and help us with any problems. read more

If you're interested in investing in solar, there are much better options in the DMV area. We had a salesperson come to our home from Renewable Energy Corporation, and use aggressive sales tactics and photographs that were not accurate to the actual install. After signing up for solar panels and the water system in November of 2013, we have waited over a year for the company to obtain proper permitting and licensing for the install. Come to find out, they had actually allowed their license in VA to expire, so we are unsure what we were waiting for during the one year period. The installers began the install and without notifying us, put a large hole to the outside of our home (through the brick) and ran a line directly up the front of our house. This was not communicated to us and we were made to think that all line installations were put internally through the roof in order to minimize displeasing aesthetics. After seeing the initial install, we called to see why this had been done and were provided with shotty customer service, and their program manager stating that it was impossible to install the line inside the home (this was not true, we verified that it was actually a less invasive procedure to do it internally). We continued to go back and forth with the company and they were extremely non-responsive and unaccommodating during the entire process. The program manager was unaware of any technical operations of her installers or the process of installing their solar system. We paid $28k+ for the system and waited over a year for the system to be sloppily installed. On average, companies charge $12k for similar systems in this area so I would advise that you do your research prior to signing a contract! We still have not had the system completely installed at this point, so I cannot provide any review for their customer service after they've received their payment (the odds aren't in their favor). read more
