I did not think I could get anything from a Telehealth PT visit... BUT!!!... it turns out it is perfect for me! We use Zoom and my PT evaluates my progress and guides me through tiny refinements that are making all the difference for getting me back to hiking and biking. I pretty much felt lost due to a meniscus tear that shut down most if not all of my physical activities late last year. The staff at Renew have been there for me through pre and post surgery, not just giving me specific strengthening exercises, but cheering me on when things did not look good. Over the years of triathlon, cycling, mtb and surfing, I've had numerous chronic issues as well as more serious injuries. Sadly, I've had a lot of experience with PTs. What I like about Renew is the PTs all seem to really physically active themselves and know how much it sucks to be out of action... so they are focused on helping you get back to normal as quickly as possible. I've successfully used Renew (in SF) in the past for swimmer/surfer's elbow rehab but am currently working at the Mill Valley location in the midst of a long recovery after severely breaking my ankle that required surgery . The amazing service I've received is notable and worth my writing a rare review. The entire team has been amazing, especially my primary PT Dea. I've had some unusual complications and felt like the team has gone above and beyond trying to help with research, new approaches, medical recommendations etc. And I should note it was Dea who diagnosed the complication I was experiencing post-surgery (not my doctor). This was pretty key as it literally altered many of the approaches I was taking to recover. It sucks to have to be in months of PT behind and likely a few more ahead, but if you're facing such a situation you want a great team behind you that helps you measure your weekly improvements, is really invested in your recovery and always bring a positive, professional attitude. I have been to at least a half dozen PT offices in my life, and Renew stands out among the very best. I am recovering from a tibial plateau fracture and have been going to Renee for a month. I have seen both Julia and Devin and am impressed by the breadth of their knowledge, their customer-service focus, and their commitment to helping me regain my strength and ability. When yelp asked me for this rating, I gave Renew PT 5 stars. Up popped a little bit of text saying "Woohoo! As good as it gets!". That's pretty fitting for this place... and my experience there was better than I could have hoped for! A little background. I'm a professional road cyclist for Team Jamis-Hagens Berman. I've been racing for 10 years and a pro for 3 of those. I've seen my fair share of injuries. Over the last 6 weeks I've been suffering pretty intense knee pain when cycling. This led me to Renew PT. Even though it's not located the closest to where I live (I live in the East Bay and they're in Marin) I had received a couple glowing recommendations from other cyclists about the place so I decided to check it out. I called them up and explained my issue. They got me booked for an appointment the very next day. I drove to their office, an open and inviting space in Tam Junction, walked in the door, and saw Steve and Imee working with a handful of young athletes. They got me in right on time. They knew what they were talking about. They knew what I needed to do to fully recover. They did a great job of explaining everything I needed to do. I've had a terrible back and neck pain for 8 years; I've been through many doctors but nothing helped. I was referred to Renew by a friend and thought I might give it a chance. I was referred to Renew by my doctor for PT for a locked shoulder. Imee was excellent and the shoulder began to loosen up fairly quickly. I have seen Steve on several occasions throughout the years and at different clinics. Most recently I sought him out for a stretched ligament issue in my knee. Not only is he a really knowledgeable PT, but he really listens to your goals, answers all your questions and tells you what you should reasonably expect. On all occasions I responded in much less time that the Dr's referral prescribed and in fact, this past weekend I skied with no pain and no brace - something I haven't done in years! Steve Mongiello, PT truly is 'as good as it gets' in physical therapy. I am a PT myself with 18 years of orthopedic therapy experience. The two times I've needed treatment for my shoulder and neck, I went to Steve. I found Renew through the Tricare authorized directory online. After sifting through a few offices I selected a couple that I might be interested visiting. This first thing I did was look at their Yelp reviews. Renew's reputation online made them my number one candidate. I called their office and was greeted by Carly; whom was extremely professional, upbeat, and positive. She went above and beyond to make sure that Tricare was going to cover my visits. We struggled to coordinate my first visit due to some policy obstacles that literally took weeks, and it would have taken longer had Carly not been so on top of the task. When we talked on the phone to update either on the Tricare dilemma she would follow up with a new development right away and literally call me back 30 min later. No waiting and no worries, she was on the initiative all the way through until I finally stepped foot in their door. I was really excited to finally be making the next step in my recovery from foot surgery as I am to report to active military duty for infantry officer course in the Army. The reviews on yelp mentioned how Steve and Ali work really well with helping you to achieve your goals and give you the attention and focus you need to meet them. That comment really motivated me to give Renew a try provided I had such a big recovery and conditioning endeavor ahead of me that needed to be tackled in a matter of weeks before shipping out. No small task to prepare for. I will be conducting major physical training with nearly 80 pounds of combat gear and miles upon miles of on the ground foot maneuvering. My PT sessions were under the care and guidance of Ali. She is a graduate of Columbia and really-really knows her stuff. She also has a great taste in music which was one of the first things I noticed when our session began. Right away she took a look at my foot and went to work. We first discussed my condition and observed my motion and movement by instructing me through some basic exercises. Then she sat me on the table and with a magical set of hands the soreness and stiffness was rubbed out in a matter of minutes. I jumped off the table and felt amazing, my foot hadn't felt that good in months. She then coached me through some physical fitness exercises that I would take home to work on. I completed a number of sessions before I left the city only just last week. Each visit the progress in my performance was dramatically noticeable. I look forward to working on what she taught and advised me through in order to strengthen my foot and leg. I've been to at least 4 other Marin County therapists in the last 2 years, and these folks are, without a doubt, the best. My sports medicine doctor, Kristen Wingfield, referred me to this group. Imee is a very competent professional as well as a most delightful person. She is amazingly skilled and did heavy duty hands-on work on my knee as well as carefully supervising all of the movements and exercises that were part of my treatment. Her upbeat personality makes a big difference when you are working on stretching (literally) your limitations! Carly, who handles the front desk, is also very personable. As a Medicare patient, I never even saw any paper work - she did it all. Her phone manner was a very positive introduction to this PT group - and their online Intake forms are easy to complete. Steve is amazing! I broke my back a couple years back, having chipped my L4 and L5. Having started a new desk job, my back was giving me issues. Steve provided me with great workouts and stretches to relieve the shooting pains and soreness in my lower back, specific and sensitive to my particular injury. ALSO - I was one of the most inflexible people out there before working with Steve. He got me from touching my knees (it was a stretch for me, 6'4" tight as an oyster), and now I can touch my toes. As a former patient of Renew PT, with great outcomes, I was anxious to begin working on my current injury, only to be impacted by the CA Statewide order to stay at home. And then just today, I got an email from Renew that they were setup to offer Telehealth sessions! I immediately called the office and Jamie scheduled a same day appointment and emailed me all the appropriate forms so I could start treatment today. After easily downloading the Zoom App, I clicked a link and was connected to Dea, my therapist. It was all so easy! A bit skeptical about how this would work, it was pretty much like being in the office, except we were meeting over the computer. Dea observed my movements, made exercise recommendations, demonstrated the movements and watched me do them and she scheduled our future appointments. After the session, Dea emailed me visuals of the exercises for my reference. It was a great experience and I will be able to rehab while stuck at home! The only downside, you don't get the in office soft tissue massage! HA! read more

I went to Steve after I was in a car accident and received treatment for almost 10 weeks. He was brilliant. A really nice guy who knew how to put me back together again. I have been able to return to my usual activities within a short amount of time because of him. Steve is the head PT that runs the place (right at the Y in Mill Valley). He's a cool down to earth guy and very good at what he does, hopefully he can help you as much as he helped me. Here's my story: I recently suffered a back injury that had me almost immobile and in excruciating pain for 2 weeks. Being an avid triathlete and knowing the season was nearing I knew I needed to step up my training. I didn't have time for an injury! After speaking to a few of my training partners I received several recommendations to see a physical therapy spine specialist in Mill Valley. The office is called Renew Physical Therapy and the physical therapis that I recommend is Steve Mongiello. He was extremely thorough with his evaluation and was very understanding of my desire to return to training as soon as possible. Like the other reviewers who have given Renew PT 5 stars, I could go on forever about the quality of their care, professionalism, etc. I have been seeing them intermittently for 2-1/2 years for treatment of hip issues, post-surgery upper and lower back disc herniations and, finally, double hip replacement surgeries. Steve, Imee and Ted have been awesome (as have been their special graduate program PT interns who bring new info/techniques to the overall program). Their individual skills compliment one another and I have appreciated their different--but equally effective--approaches to addressing my PT issues. The human anatomy is a complex artifact. It is exceedingly as precious as it it is vulnerable to malfunction from neglect and abuse. And if you think your anatomy is a liability, imagine what a workout it is for the physical therapist to transform it into an asset again. Ask Devin. He will give you the run-up and run-down as he works on bringing your misaligned chakra back to alignment. In fact, he has such a command on the specifics of the human anatomy and its corollaries that he deserves an honorary Ph.D or MD. I was so pleased with Renew Physical Therapy! I have had physical therapy several times over the years and this was, by far, a stellar experience. I had a full knee replacement last summer and actually found Renew on YELP! I worked with Amanda "Dea" Dauphinee who was just excellent. She is super knowledgeable, very focused, patient, and because of her expertise I excelled in my recovery. This was beyond the norm of any physical therapy I had previously experienced and I cannot recommend Renew, or Dea, any higher. Everyone here from the reception desk, to therapists, to assistants, is professional, friendly, and from what I observed really knows their stuff, and takes a personal interest in the clientele. Dea helped me with ulnar nerve compression. Unfortunately I live out of town and can't make regular appointments, but one session made a huge difference! I went from a consuming numbness and reduced range of motion in my hand to a mildly annoying tingle in about 30 minutes. She is gentle but firm, a great listener and attentive. Dea gave me exercises to do at home, which quickly helped, as well as long term suggestions to avoid problems in the future. She made me wish I lived closer to Mill Valley! read more

My OB referred me to Renew for an abdominal separation after the birth of my second child. I worked with Imee Harsuvanakit for several months. She is great! She is very knowledgeable, thorough, and explains things well. She gave me exercises to do at home and increased the difficulty at each appointment. I have had 5 total joints replaced throughout my body. One knee has had 2 total replacements1 total hip 1 total shoulder etc. Unfortunately I have been in PT due to arthritic conditions for the majority of the past 15 years. I was recommended to make a change by my Orthopedic Dr. In Mill Valley. I was hesitant but when my insurance changed it was the the encouragement i needed. I am so glad i made the change! I have had the pleasure of going to Renew PT for the last 2 months. It is located in the shopping center on Shoreline Hwy.Parking is easy. I have been treated by Emiee. She (as all therapists there) is knowledgeable about the total mechanics of the body. I lived in excruciating pain with limited mobility for the past 6 years needlessly. I wish I would have found Renew earlier as I would have been in better physical shape. I look forward to every appointment. My 45 minute appointments seem like 20 minutes. I am constantly kept moving & if one exercise isn't working that day it is substituted with another that works. No appointments have had repeated treatments so my total body has benefitted. I have 2 appointments per week & would go more if I could. My husband is now starting here as well as my 88 year mother! You may walk there, but soon you may run there! As a result of a fall, I had enormous back pain that radiated all the way down my leg. I could not stand or walk for more than a couple of minutes. I went through this for a week or so, then got referred to Renew in Mill Valley. Christine quickly evaluated what was wrong, and began a therapy program that began showing results in a week. And gave me printed out gentle, progressive stretch exercises to do at home, which I followed every day. After four weeks of therapy and gradual improvement the pain is gone. I am an O.G. (Old Guy) with poor coordination that suffered from disc related problems that resulted in severe leg and foot pain ( sciatica ). As a result of the pain, I slept on the floor for many months and frequently was unable to drive a car. I went to Renew Physical Therapy as a result of the many positive Yelp reviews and the fact that they are practitioners of the Mckenzie Method. I also went to Renew P.T. since I wanted to avoid the surgeons knife (Back operation). The Renew P.T. front office staff made the appointment process very easy and efficient. Also, they accept workers' comp. Steve (owner) conducted my initial examination which was very thorough and complete, and then set-up a program for my recovery. Since I suffer from poor balance, some of the exercises had to be modified. I also like the fact that they not only demonstrate the recommended exercises, but also provide you will detailed hard copy printouts. Steve and (PT) Christine were professional, supportive, knowledgeable, and sincerely interested in patient recovery. Furthermore, the appointments were always started on time. I continue to do the exercises that they recommended on a daily basis and my recovery has been remarkable. I am getting back to my old self and enjoying life. Recently, I started to slowly jog again. I don't write many reviews, but I feel that I have to make an exception because of the amazing experience I had at Renew PT. I was having on and off right knee pain for a couple months. At first, I didn't pay much attention to it since it wasn't that painful, and gradually the pain started to get worse. I couldn't even walk up the stairs without my knee screaming in pain! I've never had physical therapy before and thought to myself I'm way too young to even walk into a PT office. I'm 26 and I've always been healthy! I heard about Renew PT from a couple of my kickboxing friends, and also decided it was time to go in since my knee wasn't getting any better. The staff was always friendly, caring and understanding. Imee worked on my knee for over a month and did an excellent job at making me want to push myself each time. But I never felt rushed and always felt like I had the support needed.
