So imagine my delight to find BKB Leather, in my hometown of Lawrence, KS, on stitchdown.com's list of the best cobblers in the country for boot repair. When I came home for Thanksgiving I brought them in; received excellent customer service on intake, and four days later got my boots back with gorgeous, new, durable soles on the heels of my boots, which had also been cleaned and polished. The proprietor is friendly and obviously takes pride in his work. I will never use another shoe repair place. 15/10 highly recommend.

This is in my neighborhood, and I visited the store to find something that wasn't leather related but was something they should've had in their stock. They have only a few of their kits that i can find at Hobby Lobby for cheaper. The leather selection is really good, and really expensive. I want to make a traveler's journal, but know not to go there. they have leather stamps, and paint, which is nice. On the websites I found the leather for shipping free, and alot less. There is apparently classes, or what not. I found alot of tools, and alot of things like leather lace, but nothing I was looking for. But, I would return for tools, and possibly 9 x 12 pieces of leather, but no one raised an eye at me. The price of the leather purse kit is outrageous. Really I'm not interested in this store.

Many of the pieces have funny or profound sayings on them that can give you a chuckle. Some of them they even print in house. They've been selling in boutiques around town such as The Bunker, Westside Storey and MASH Handmade. Good news! They're going big time and have opened up their own retail space on Westport Road! The corner storefront is pretty large, and right now I'd say at least 75% of the space is dedicated to production. There are a ton of windows and thus natural light, and it's a clean and airy space that is a pleasure to be in. The merchandise is rather limited but well curated, and a number of other local brands are represented. Off the top of my head I can recall seeing products from local businesses Owl + Mouse, Sandlot Goods and Vintage Edison. This is, of course in addition to a full line of Normal Human's t-shirts for man, woman and child. They're brand new, in fact I don't think they even had a sign when I visited. As they navigate from wholesale to retail, I look forward to seeing what they come up with. I highly suggest a visit to Normal Human.

The shop has a large selection of backpacks, luggage, and important travel goods. It's a great place to grab an outlet converter or something else you'll surely need in a trip. Bag and Baggage also carries some really high quality leather portfolios for note taking, wallets, and other goods. Besides items in stock, Bag and Baggage also does custom luggage name tags. They were able to change the names on three pieces of luggage in a pretty fast fashion. The work looks great and will definitely last. The shop was also considerate enough to put the old tags in a ziploc bag for us to potentially reuse or keep. The workers at Bag and Baggage are also super sweet. They've helped my family out so many times and done such great custom work. They were also very helpful when we forgot a bag in the store and kept it until we could pick it up.

The parking is non-existing since the street has been redone, causing area employees/residents to utilize customer street parking for the most part, since cars are parked there for hours on end. The man, before even saying hello looked over his eyeglasses and said I could get an $800 ticket for multiple parking violations for my parking actions. After leaving my shoes with him I asked him where parking was located for customers and he said "all over" and became visibly upset about. When I returned the next week, I felt he was still upset or maybe just has bad customer relation skills. Maybe he doesn't like people who wear black shoes...I don't know but I would not recommend anyone visit his store or if you do- wear white shoes.

I'd seen the reviews, and I now can say the reviews weren't exaggerated. When I first called Greg last November he was honest about the time fragment it would take. I unfortunately called during the holidays, which was not good. I later called in March, amd he told me then, sort of leveling with me that this sort of work takes time, like 4-6 months. It wasn't a bad wait and I was patient. The saying goes, "all good things come to those who wait," and it's true if you want a master to handle your antiques. I've sanded, stained wood before, and it's no easy task. It's a time-consuming endeavor, and I also didn't trust myself restoring antique bookcases. In retrospect the price was reasonable for the result. I now have an admirable place to keep my Ulysses, and restored bookcases my ancestors would be proud of.

My boyfriend loves getting the leather baseballs and they offer seconds on them at times which are a great deal because he likes to use them and not just collect. There are some unique products at reasonable prices. For example, cool puzzles you don't see everywhere. I loved grabbing some Big League Chew on the way out. A nice selection is available! I have seen the same younger guy in the shop the 3 times I have been in. I don't know if he is the owner or is just always there, but he is extremely nice and very helpful.
