Back in Spring of 2025 I ordered a custom made Bagpipers Doublet from J. Higgins. I told them I…read morewould need the doublet fer a special honour event in mid-October of 2025. Before I ordered that Doublet I was informed it would be completed well before the event. It was an almost 16 weeks completion, which was fine as long as it was completed and received before the mid October event. I also sent them a custom made Royal Cipher Gilt Badge (£ 150, my cost) This badge was to be sewn on the sleeve with 2 other Gilt Badges which are stocked and sold by J. Higgins. Extra cost of the badges and the sewing on of these badges and shipping was an addition $ 150-200, which I agreed to. A month before the completion date I was assured the Doublet would be completed well before the needed date. Toward the 3rd week of September I was the Doublet would be completed in time. 2 weeks before the start of October I was informed the Doublet we'd couldn't be completed till 2-3 weeks after the event date. I informed J.Higgins that I was possibly interested in getting the doublet at a later date. In the meantime I had to find another tailor to create the needed Doublet. Being so close to the event date I had to pay 4x the cost. Having Zero options, I paid the additional costs. I'm extremely annoyed that a completion date was not honoured and felt deceived by assurances that the Doublet would be completed. This Doublet is something that is advertised on J.Higgins website. It was stated how long the construct would take and my order was well within' the time frame. I feel lied to and though I've bought from J. Higgins 5x in the past, this misrepresentation caused me to lose any trust in J.Higgins. Their integrity was lost with all this false misinformation. Yes, J. Higgins has some nice items, I will not shop here again and I recommend others to not trust timelines and shop elsewhere. Very annoyed and feel really lied to, when I was given numerous assurances that the Doublet would be completed. Shop elsewhere is my advise.

If you don't realize what a treasure it is to have such a shop nearby, try googling in major cities, much larger than KC, sometime, for luggage repair. You'll come up empty.

The shop has a large selection of backpacks, luggage, and important travel goods. It's a great place to grab an outlet converter or something else you'll surely need in a trip. Bag and Baggage also carries some really high quality leather portfolios for note taking, wallets, and other goods. Besides items in stock, Bag and Baggage also does custom luggage name tags. They were able to change the names on three pieces of luggage in a pretty fast fashion. The work looks great and will definitely last. The shop was also considerate enough to put the old tags in a ziploc bag for us to potentially reuse or keep. The workers at Bag and Baggage are also super sweet. They've helped my family out so many times and done such great custom work. They were also very helpful when we forgot a bag in the store and kept it until we could pick it up.

I have been to the Overland Park location on Quivira several times and always had exceptional service. This is the first time I visited the Leawood location but I was impressed by the prompt service, excellent advice to purchase a Tux rather than rent one since they had a promotion that cost almost the same and the fact that they had my tux fitted and ready for me the same day. The one issue I had was they lost my suit I brought in for alteration but found it a week later. The quality of suits is very good, these are not department store suits for old people, they are fashionable suits of all kinds and the staff of ALL locations always seems to be very knowledgeable.
