Horrible service. An hour and a half until we got food. 90 minutes! Would not recommend!

They are trying REALLY hard... We went on a Thursday night for dinner. We had made a reservation the night before and when we arrived there was no indication that they had our reservation or that we had really needed to make one at all. We were told we could sit anywhere we chose. The restaurant is split into four areas: 1. The outdoor patio - it has several tables and overhead fans and would be pleasant in nicer weather. Right now we have triple digit temperatures so that was out. 2. The front room which has some bistro tables for two or four people and couches in the middle of the room for lounging. 3. What I would call the "wine room" which is lined with racks of wine and a small bar that was used by the waitstaff. 4. The front room which appeared to be the location for their tastings. We chose to sit in the wine room. Noise was a factor since it is a fairly small room and there were other parties nearby. Next time we will chose to sit in the front room. The server arrived after about the right amount of time with water, the wine by the glass list, and food menus. The wine by the glass list was 5 or 6 choices of white or red. They also listed a nice selection of craft beers. The selection of wines was not that impressive but not abysmal either. Some were pedestrian but others had some quality to them. This brings me to their first near miss. One of the wines listed was the Chateau Montelena Chardonnay. A table placard listed it as the wine that "won the 1973 tasting against France as shown in the movie Bottle Shock". It was a nice idea but the tasting they are referring to actually took place in 1976. Our server came back and I asked to see the wine list. "Do you want to see the Red List or the White list?" "Yes." "Oh, so both?" "Yes" To her credit she did bring both lists quickly and here is where I think they deserve some accolades. The wine list was very good. They had some quality wines from both larger and smaller producers. All price points from $20 to $75 are present and multiple choices at each price point. I would say that they are in the top two in a list of good wine lists in the St. Charles area. Had the room been less crowded we would have perused the wine racks in the room to enjoy the selections. We selected a Chardonnay that we recognized as a nice bottle but the server had not heard of it and went to try and find it. Here is the second near miss. They have a listing of each wines location in the refrigerator/cooler but she could not locate the wine we wanted. To her credit (in my opinion) she showed us the list and wanted to make sure she hadn't missed it. I will be truthful, I didn't see it either. We shifted to another bottle and she brought that quite quickly, but their coolers need to be that:cooler. This Chardonnay was below room temperature, but not nearly cool enough. She did place it in a chiller that felt like it had been in the same cooler so it didn't help too much. When she brought the wine to the table she had opened it at the bar. OK fine, but then she poured it into each of our glasses. So near miss number three. This establishment is a wine bar but the opportunity to inspect the cork or taste the wine before being served was not offered. That was a little disappointing. Now, in our server's defense I believe that she had not been trained appropriately by management. She was courteous, informed on the food menu, and overall a great server, just not used to serving in an establishment that is centered around wine. If the management had instructed her on the traditional procedure and had a better location system for the wines, I believe that none of these near misses would have occurred. Well, maybe the 1973/1976 error would have :-) OK, enough about that. The food was quite good. You have the options of small plates, sandwiches/paninis, and pizzas. We had the antipasta plate and bruschetta as small plates and both were really good, though the antipasta could have used another cheese selection. We also had the bacon & apple panini which complemented our Chardonnay nicely. I think the menu works quite well if you are looking for a nice meal and good bottle of wine. Will we return? Absolutely- they have a great wine list, the food was quite good, and the service was up to par. If we want other establishments to open which are focused on wine and good food we need to show there is a market for them to be successful. I urge you to go there and enjoy yourself. It is worth it and I am confident the near misses will be hits quite soon. Bon Appetit! read more

Wow, what an experience. It was a dark and stormy night... No seriously, when we walked into Rendezvous, their were tornadoes headed our way and we just didn't know it. So, to be honest, I spent most of our visit nervously watching the skies turn from green to brown to yellow, and straining to hear tornado sirens over the dynamic duo playing oldies. Now that the backdrop is set, I'll try to give you an honest review. Having read another reviewer's comments about the ordering process being somewhat unclear, I started hunting for my own menu the second we walked through the door. But apparently things work differently at night, and a waitress grabbed us right away and seated us at the front of the cafe, right next to a mountain of amps, subwoofers, and musical equipment. From there we could see that the half-full room was occupied by several over-65 couples and what must have been one of their grandsons. He turned out to be the life of the party. The waitress was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and took time to discuss some of the menu's highlights, and really tried to make an effort to recommend pairings, etc. My husband and I opted for the Spinach & Artichoke Dip with Toasted Baguettes as an appetizer, and agreed to split The Big Apple sandwich. Everything arrived quickly, and was absolutely delicious! The dip was very creamy and savory, and the baguettes were a nice change from tortilla chips or pita bread. The sandwich was to die for. It consisted of smoked turkey, provolone, bacon, some kind of mustard, and the crowning glory - Granny Smith apple slices. It was a delicious mix of flavors. My only complaint is that the sandwich seemed extremely small for $7.99. When cut in half it was smaller than two White Castle burgers. It definitely wouldn't be enough for one hungry person, and isn't served with a side item of any kind, and a salad would run you another $6 or $7. Now back to ambience. I loved our waitress, but I really wish that she would have told us two things: A) That a live band would be starting right next to us about 2 minutes after we sat down, and B) That there was a central (quieter) room that she could have seated us in. It's not to say that the musical duo wasn't good, they were actually quite talented if trying a bit hard with the humor (think the Culps from SNL). But my husband and I went to a wine bar for a nice place to have dinner and talk. Which would have been an option. If we'd been told about the other room. Long story short, we finished our food without being able to say a word to each other due to the noise level, and then asked the waitress to move us to the other room (which I had spotted on a restroom break), where we indulged in the BEST gooey butter cake I have ever had and waited out the storm. I would definitely go to Rendesvous again, but I'd probably aim for breakfast/lunch times. The night scene seems a little too... old... for me. But their food is great and I'm excited to sample some of the other delicious-sounding things from their menu. I wouldn't drive any kind of distance to eat here, but if you're in O'Fallon, give this place a shot (but check out the event list at rendezvouscafeandwinebar.com so that you're prepared). read more

First time visiting was good. The second visit, the cheese and meat sampler was wal-mart quality at best. Our waitress did not know the specials, was slow and motioned me to hand me my plates. They provided no butter or oil for the bread and when we asked the waitress acted like it was a stupid request. We enjoyed our first visit, but will not be going back for a long time. read more

There are very few cafes that have unique items that I crave. I absolutely love their food. My favorite is the Frenchman. It is roast beef and caramelized onions with a sauce that is amazing. Additionally, I love their lobster bisque, Greek salad, and potato salad; it has to be homemade because it is so good. The atmosphere is so quaint and cozy. Love, love this place! read more

It's a Saturday night and this place is packed. Cute setting with overstuffed leather love seats and small tables for seating with bright lighting to see what to order. We were waited on promptly and our server offered us wine samples to help us decide on our selection. The food menu offered the standard cafe choices. We chose the crab cakes for an appetizer served lightly breaded on a bed of mixed greens and a sauce drizzled atop. They were good and would order them again. For the entrees we selected the Greek salad and portabella mushroom sandwich both had good flavor and the portions perfect. Didn't try a dessert but will next time. Our server was great. She knew when to be there and provided great service. This evening a guitarist played as musical entertainment. He was good although loud enough that our conversation had to stop as it stressed our throats to carry on. Will try this place again for their breakfast menu. Parking is around the back. I was in this facility along with four other women having a small birthday celebration. We arrived at 3 pm, had a table for six. My friend who organized the event made a cake which was on a high top table and also had some napkins and a bag on another high top. This facility had no one else inside except us. At 4:30, another couple came in and sat at a high top. The older lady in this facility was rude. Not sure if she was the owner, but thinking she was. A napkin fell on the floor, she picked it up, slapped it on a high top table, rolled her eyes and shook her head. About 10-15 minutes later, she then came by and started moving the napkins and bag to the high top table with the cake and again rolled her eyes, looked our way and shook her head in disgust. We got the message and removed our items from the high top table to our table. Again, five us inside this establishment and another couple. Hardly full. She then came to our table and began removing our glasses and clearing our table. We assumed by her demeanor and rudeness that we were being asked to leave. We left at 5:20 pm. We ate and drank while we were there from 3:00 to 5:20 pm. Apparently, we didn't spend enough to be allowed to stay longer. We all got her message loud and clear - so, hopefully, she will understand that five women will not return to this establishment again. Horrible service. The servers did not know if anyone had helped us (only 7 people there) and we waited 25 minutes for a hummus appetizer. My fiancé did not receive his soup (again, only 7 people there) and was asked if he "wants it to go" after we asked for the check. There was live music which was surprisingly their saving grace despite their inability to read the room - they played "Dani California". Enough said. read more

I had lunch at the Rendezvous Cafe on Friday, and it was a great experience. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. The food portions were large, and I think each one of the 8 in the group thought our food was wonderful! Among all of us, we tried several salads, the lobster bisque, one of the quiche selections, and the reuben sandwich. The food is good but the service can be Very poor. The place is not set up to be busy: no hostess, one espresso machine, no bartender. They staff poorly and then the servers had to make all the drinks, serve the food and bus the tables while the owners sit around. It's too bad. I can't tell you the horrible service we had from the wait staff last night at the Rendezvous Wine Bar. I was with a group of friends. Three of them tried to order food and were told the computer was down for awhile and they couldn't order. Later they tried to order pizza and were told they had no pizza dough, so they just had drinks. Later the waitress came over to our table, singled us out, and said we all had to pay a minimum of $15 each. This included the friends who tried to order food. My friends explained that they tried to order food but weren't able to. They paid for their drinks and left. As they were on the parking lot, a waitress came running out after them, said she was sent out by the manager. This waitress got in my friends faces, was yelling, and my friend's 91 year old mother got in between them to calm this belligerent waitress down. I have never seen anything like this in my entire life... Some of my group went around to other tables and learned that they were not paying $15 each. There was a lady there, a regular, who even brought her own large water bottle into the restaurant and was not paying the $15. This wait staff and management was the rudest I have ever experienced in my life. That waitress that ran out on the parking lot should have been arrested for verbal assault. Incredible. read more

Ok. I'm giving this place two stars because previously the food was good and the service was terrific - AT BREAKFAST. We liked it so much we decided to try this place for dinner on our anniversary, and the food was poor and the service was worse. Had this just been based on that dinner, I'd beg Yelp for a no star review option. Cheese plate... let's just say was not a "cheese plate," at least to anyone expecting a decent one in a wine bar. It was some crusty (not in a good way) cheese, a couple (literally) of crackers, a couple of tiny slices of rock hard bread, a couple of gooey nuts, and some wilted fruit. Sandwiches - which, after taking 30 minutes to actually take our order, seemed like the faster route - tasted like twice-reheated leftovers. It took - in total - 2.5 hours for a cheese plate and some sandwiches - and despite asking over and over and over and OVER about the status of our food, not once did we receive an apology or an explanation other than "it's coming." The place wasn't that busy, so we really do NOT understand this, except that obviously we were interrupting the servers' time with their personal guests - they got their food much faster than we did, despite arriving an hour later. Absolute crap - we were SO disappointed. After becoming breakfast regulars here, after this experience, we won't be going back for ANY meal. read more

This place was bad! Several of us family members drove 250-500 miles for our parents 60th wedding anniversary. The owners were serving. They were crabby and acted annoyed the whole time. We were quoted pork tenderloin buffet fro $18.99/person, we were served pork loin..a lesser cut! They only made enough food for 30 people when we told them, via email, that we had 39 dinners. So it was in 'writing' on the computer. (Was this intentional to cut corners for more profit?) We were not able to have second helpings. We spent at or above $2000.00!!! We all left hungry and had to order $50.00 worth of pizza to fill us up!!! ADVICE TO THE OWNERS: You are there to serve your customers (who pay your wages) and act like you love to do it! I cannot understand all these other good reviews. We will never use this place again. read more

I would not recommend this place at all. Number #1my bill came to 70.00 plus tip and the meal was ok. I had a Reuben sandwich and my husband had the haddock sandwich. My sandwich had only a few slices of corned beef. My husbands was ok. I asked for coleslaw and got potato salad and my husband asked for potato salad and got chips. Didn't complain about the mixup. Just ate what was on my plate. My husbands glass had a chip in it also. What actually triggered this bad review was when the so called manager came to our table and said I would have to put my shoes on and remove them from the chair I was resting them on because I have a sore ankle and it feels better when elevated. Someone in the restaurant had complained that my shoes were off. All I had on we're flip flops. I was minding my own business having a nice dinner with my husband and someone complains about me having my feet on a chair under the table!! WTF! The manager should have never come over to me or should have asked if there was a reason my foot was on the seat of a chair. This place is not a 5 star dining spot. Very casual place. Horrible. We had a 9:30 reservation ON MOTHER'S DAY and they didn't take our order until about 9:50. At 10:20 they brought out our food. Took her 20 more minutes to bring my coffee because "they were making something in there already." They gave my mom my dad's order, and my dad my moms order. My moms was wrong anyway! They didn't even bring out my brother's food. Finally at 10:45 we were just going to leave when they brought the food out. The waitress, again, put my moms order in front of my dad. Also asked if she wanted a mimosa for Mother's Day. Saying it like it was complimentary, we said yes. Turns out it was $6.00 on our final bill. Don't come to this place ever. I wouldn't bother going. I brought my sisters here for our birthday lunch and all of us were miserably disappointed. The prices are high and the food was lees than edible. Even the cupcakes which used to be delicious are now horrible, dry, sad excuses for treats. Went there on a weekday for dinner. As my girlfriend and I walked in we weren't sure where to go. There was no one around to greet us and there were only two other people dining. We just sat down and waited. After a while we got a server to bring us water. We then decided to sit outside. Very small patio. After ten minutes of waiter for a server, we were blessed with the presence of a very dull guy. Barely talked to us and was kind of rude. We looked over the menus are neither of us were impressed. Overpriced and their wasn't a very big selection. We opted for drinks instead. After receiving a drink menu we ordered a glass of wine. It was ok, but for $9 a glass it wasnt that good. The waiter never came back and asked how we were doing so after out glass we decided to leave. We waited for 10 minutes to tell him we wanted our check. After giving us our check he left and didnt come back for another 10 minutes. He took our card and we, guess what, waited another 10 minutes. So all in all, we weren't impressed. I was a guest at a wedding shower on October 13th at the Rendezvous. I experienced one of the rudest servers that I have seen in a long time. She was an older lady and she is in the wrong business. She was crabby and rude to almost everyone! Her job was to refill drinks and clear plates....It was a buffet (and smiling was very difficult for her). She passed by me four times while I was waiting for a refill and I ended up going to the bar myself. If anyone asked her a question, her replies were short and rude. The food was amazing, but she ruined the Wedding Shower and the experience of this darling restaurant. Their bill was $1000 and she wrote in her tip, which was on TOP of the tax! That is so wrong because she didn't deserve HALF of that tip. I love this restaurant and the food is delicious...I would probably have an event here, but I would ask for ANYONE to serve but her. If she was our server again, I would walk out. read more

We experienced a lovely lunch the first time we tried this cozy cafe. Good food,wine, & service. The second time was a DISASTER, we attended their venue "The Naughty List", a Murder Mystery Dinner Show. The appetizer was so spicy (no warning) from staff, my husband choked. Thank God for the water glass! Overcooked chicken entree,raw carrots, pasty scalloped potatoes & the salad tasted like tuna fish (too much anchovy). When the waitress brought my dessert she said, "don't worry about how it looks, it taste fabulous! The pie was disheveled resembling a scrambled egg look. The show was lacking in entertainment, & too noisy for the small space performed in. Best of all the brick behind our seats was leaking water, it was pouring outside. We just wanted "Out of here" by the shows ending. The entire show the BAND was playing in the room next to us, which added to the LOUDNESS in the room we were in. Jokes on us, we expected a classier atmosphere. Program was poorly managed from the meal to the enjoyment of the guests, not well thought out....... read more

We have ate here a few times for brunch, lunch, and dinner and each time the food has been very good and the desserts are delicious. We had a family birthday party and it was alot of fun. The guitarist, Gary Sluhan performed. He was great, he took special requests, and even let the little ones play some instruments he had. It was a good family outing. It is a place where you feel very comfortable, can be quiet and quaint, esp. outside in the covered garden area. Perfect place for a romantic evening. Or it can be a fun, rocking time with alot of laughter and noise. They have a comedy night and variety of entertainers. Depending on the entertainment I think depends on the atmosphere. The place is small and gives you a feeling of a coffee shop by day and a bistro by night. Has several rooms for large groups and a great full wine bar. The servers we have had, Mickey and Lauren have been wonderful and have gone out of their way to make any of our dining experiences truly a good time. We give this place a high rating for being a versatile and a little gem in the area. Oh, and if you go on your birthday, they give you a huge wonderful decadent cupcake for your birthday! read more

Nice place for lunch or to sit outside on a patio. I ordered the summer salad and quiche and it was wonderful. I also got a late and it was equally as good. Service was a little slow when it came to paying the waitress, but otherwise the experience was excellent. I'd go back. read more
