Can't speak on the food, but the wine bar is fantastic! They have an enormous selection of wines (by the bottle) all fairly reasonably priced. Wish they had more options for by the glass, but it's an excuse to treat yourself to a full bottle. The atmosphere on the weekend is super relaxed and the live music was great. I had this place bookmarked for a little while and decided to finally try it out the other night with Sean because we were already driving out that way and we were starved! It was pouring down rain and decided to call ahead to reserve a table (Friday night) but turns out we didn't need to! This place seems like a mix of casual coffee house with a wine bar and store. We both happened to be really dressed up but we did not feel out of place. The waitress was really nice and she even put something under our table to stop it from rocking back and forth. They had an acoustic group that night playing some music. They weren't amazing but they weren't terrible either. I was glad that it wasn't too loud to talk to Sean while we were there. They have the very-awesome option of ordering breakfast all day long which very few places allow, so I thought that was pretty cool. Sean ended up ordering the French Toast but he didn't really like it. It also came with bacon and some orange slices. I liked it a lot because it basically reminded me of a cross between egg custard/creme brulee/bread pudding. Yes, this French Toast is like a dessert! So if you like more traditional stuff you might not like this. I had a cup of lobster bisque and the bruschetta appetizer. It was fantastic! The soup was kind of thick but I didn't mind it. The bruschetta tasted like a mixture of tomatoes, pine nuts, and garlic on top of cheese spread on bread slices. They were crispy but still chewy at the same time, mmm. I also tried the No. 2 wine flight which had a pinot noir, a merlot, and something else. It was around $9 and was pretty good. The service was great, and our water glasses were constantly filled. Also, they had create-your-own pasta that night! One of the chefs pulled us aside before we picked a table to sit at so he could take us through the wine store and around the corner to where there was a long table with pasta in a bowl and all sorts of mixers like mushrooms, peppers, chicken, etc, that you could add to a couple of sauces. I didn't try it but it looked good, although not super "gourmet" but certainly tasty. I think they only had marinara sauce or alfredo sauce, though I can't recall correctly. The price was low too, around $7 or $8 for it. They only do it on certain nights, though, I think. I would probably go back here some time just because they have a decent selection of menu options, wonderful service without any pretentiousness, and what looks like an awesome patio with a HUGE pergola. I haven't seen one so big before, and I wish I could have enjoyed the outdoor area but it was raining like crazy. Definitely worth checking out if you find yourself in the area. read more

We had a bridal shower at this establishment and the server was extremely rude!!! She was an older woman, who was very crabby and when she was asked for something she would reply with a very rude response. It was as if she knew the the gratuity was included, so therefore she did not care about the service that she provided. Myself, along with a few others that hosted this event, are all servers and work private events/parties at a different restaurant in the area. We would of never talked to a customer the way this woman did and we also were going to add an extra tip on top of the gratuity but chose not to after her remarks. I have since read other reviews and there seems to be a trend with this same server. I'm sure she is the owner and she doesn't seem to care the way she treats her customers. We will never be back here and will be sure to share this with others in the future. The food was great, but this server ruined the experience. Favorite place to go with Sis after we go get our hair cut and styled. First We stop across the street at Judy's Junk to shop antiques and collectibles. We always wind up buying something! Then we cross the street and find a tall table at Rendezvous - usually the one in front of the window. The ambiance is lovely; the wine signs are funny; the service is excellent and the food delicious! What's not to like? Even the bathrooms are clean. Today, I had the BLT and they let me have it on Sourdough instead of wheat. The potato salad was tasty and while a combo of mustard and mayo dressing, it was not too mustardy. I had a Pinot Grigio glass of wine which was lovely. I first tasted an Italian red sample, but it was too dry and oaky, so I changed my selection. TONS of people were dining outside today - as they have a lovely patio with a degree of shade and sun that's just right! If you're in O'Fallon -stop here for Breakfast or Lunch and their desserts are scrumptious. They Serve Breakfast all Day as well. When I walked in I thought I had the wrong place so I walked out to read the sign. The highly mentioned/regarded patio is a sidewalk on the side next to a parking lot. The clientele looked they just came from school and were slurping soft drinks in plastic red cups. Where is the wine bar? The servers were cold and unwelcoming. After walking in a second time, I wanted to grab a seat, yet no one spoke, one server walked right past me as I was looking for a place to sit, it was just a bad experience. Love this place! It's a little oasis in what passes for old town O'Fallon. I've been home three days and have been in there three times. Picked up sandwiches for lunch on Tuesday - a Munich and a Big Apple. They are moist, delicious and probably full of calories but I like them anyway. I'd prefer if the default accompaniment were something besides chips, but that's just me. Pickles = perfection. Next morning I had a broccoli quiche and bottomless cup of coffee and sat unmolested for hours sorting through paperwork. And then I stopped in for an iced mocha to go this morning. I enjoy this tiny little place so much. My first experience there was a bit confusing. I felt a bit off trying to figure out how to know what to order, where to order and how it all worked. My second time there I had more of an idea of how the place worked. Hint: grab a paper menu, sit down, look it over and then you can go up to the register to order or if you're lucky the owner will stop by. The owner is fabulous. The instant we spoke I knew she was smart. She helped my mom pick out a good wine for her, brought over several samples and was patient while she decided. The soup and salad are both delicious but I can't bring myself to order them anymore now that I have discovered The Frenchman. My bf and I both expected a more "bistro" feel from the name of the place but when we arrived, we were shocked to find out that they had a live band. They were singing anything from the 70s to the pop music. The entire place turned into a sports bar-y in a way. The entire place looks very confusing -- it has a separate room for wine tasting and the front does look more like a coffee shop/deli. The menu is decent for a small place. There is no hot entree items if you dont want a sandwich. They do offer various hot appetizers. The wine selection is good. The prices for everything is very reasonable. They also offer cooking classes. I think they may want to concentrate and perfect in one direction first instead of opening up too many paths and only being mediocre. read more

The food was ok, we did like the smaller portions. I'm not a fan of oversized, wasteful portions. We weren't impressed with the slow service. They really weren't busy but service was very slow. Perhaps we were meant to enjoy the quaint feel of the restaurant itself more. I was less impressed by the wine selection. I have been to two wine tasting events at Rendezvous Cafe & Wine Bar. I absolutely hate leaving negative reviews, particularly for independent restaurants, but after having a similar experience both times, I feel compelled to share my experience. The first event I went to a few months ago was a wine and cupcake tasting event. It was apparent that the owner, Stephanie, was extremely stressed out by the event, and was cranky and rude to a few of the people attending. Two women sitting next to my friend and I were extremely offended by how they were treated by her. My friend and I were surprised to see some of her behavior, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt and assumed that maybe she had someone call off and was short handed that evening. I returned last night for another wine and food tasting event, and while the food was good, the service from Stephanie was not. She was rude to most of the people that walked in, constant rolling of her eyes towards paying customers, barking orders at people to move to other seats, complaining about how many people were there, etc. She made an announcement in an annoyed tone to everyone at the event that it was going to take a long time to ring everyone up since she was SURE she was going to be dealing with 33 separate checks (once again with a roll of the eyes). When I went to pay, she snapped, "ONLY the wine/food tasting?" and after running my card, threw it back across the bar at me. My friend walked up to pay after me and said something about many people being on their way to also pay, and Stephanie was again rolling her eyes. My friend, trying to help Stephanie see the silver lining said, "well, that's a good thing, it means you held a very successful event for all of these people to want to be here," and Stephanie was not interested in seeing the silver lining in the situation. We were shocked to see how paying customers were being treated. After seeing this behavior at two events, I realized that this is just her modus operandi, and I will not be spending any more of my hard earned money at this establishment. They are getting two stars instead of one because I did enjoy the food that I had both times that I was there. It's just a shame that the service will keep me from going back to enjoy it again. read more

There are very few cafes that have unique items that I crave. I absolutely love their food. My favorite is the Frenchman. It is roast beef and caramelized onions with a sauce that is amazing.
