Renai Photography is THE BEST!! My Fiancee Rey and I had planned on getting married in Hawaii (he proposed in Hawaii as well). I knew from the get go that I wanted Renai Photography to capture our most special day. While planning for our Hawaiian wedding, Eddy (the owner) was so very helpful. He gave me so much information on great vendors on the island. Everyone he pointed me in the direction of was so great!! As time progressed, we had to change our wedding to be back home (in San Francisco, CA) due to the fact that my elders are unable to fly on a plane. I was bummed. I had to start all over again to try to find a photographer in the area. It was useless, no matter how hard I looked, I didn't find any other photographer who's work I was in awe with. Lucky for me, my search was over. We decided to still get Eddy for our wedding, we'd just have him fly over. :) Eddy flew into town in February to take our engagement photos. I was nervous being that we'd never met before (nor even spoke over the phone, however we emailed each other constantly and are friends of Facebook, ha!!) But soon after we met, my nerves were put to rest. Eddy is such a great photographer!! He's very easy going, friendly, personable, and professional. What was even more impressive is that although Eddy doesn't live here, he found GREAT places for us to take our engagement photos. He did his research well, we were very impressed! I have to say I think the photo shoot was a great way to get my Fiancee and I together to just laugh and be silly. Throughout the shoot we were just laughing so hard, my cheeks were hurting!! Eddy told us the photos would be ready in 2-3 weeks, but we woke up the next day to a fantastic surprise!! He gave a great teaser!! I was really going to try to not think of the photos for those 2-3 weeks, but that teaser just made me even more antsy because I saw a glimpse at how amazing the photos would turn out!! Through out the 2 weeks of waiting, we've gotten a handful of teasers sent to us randomly. They are such a fun treat, and a great pick me upper!! (I'll post some of the teasers in the photos section for you all to drool over!! Haha!!) All of our friends and family were so impressed. A few comments were: -"Wow, looks like a postcard!!" -"Is that photoshopped?? Is it real?? On a green screen perhaps??" -"This looks just like a movie scene!!" -"This looks like something straight out of a magazine. Like an ad!!" I can't tell you how many of our friends and family told us that they got teary from seeing our photos. Everyone including us was very moved at how magical the photos are. We've got about a week left until we get the rest of the photos from our engagement session, and we are so excited!! The anticipation is killing me!! I cannot wait til next year for the actually wedding, I know the wedding photos are going to be jaw dropping!! Thanks Eddy for all of your hard work. You are truly a photo God!! (bows down!!) If it was possible to give MORE THAN 5 stars, I would give it to Renai photography. My husband and I planned a destination wedding in Hawaii from Philadelphia. Eddy was by far THE MOST helpful vendor we had. He went above and beyond his responsibilities as a photographer. He gave us advice on all the different vendors that we needed for our wedding and pointed us to the best vendors and venues on the island. He helped us make a timeline for our wedding and he was instrumental in keeping us on time through out the wedding day. He must have had multiple weddings scheduled ahead of us... but we never felt that he was too busy for our questions and concerns. He was probably one of the rare Hawaiian vendors who responds to emails the same day or the next day. Since I was hiring vendors without meeting them, I asked him for a Skype meeting which he happily granted. That first meeting sealed the deal. He was very professional and detail oriented when asking us about the plans for our wedding. His portfolio was jaw droppingly amazing! At the same time, he was so humble and so friendly, and easy to talk to. I knew that I would be very comfortable being photographed by him. After we hung up from our Skype meeting, I felt very assured and confident in Eddy. I knew at that first meeting we HAD to hire him. We hired him for our engagement session, day of wedding photography, and trash the dress. The photos speak for themselves. The way he captures light and the natural beauty of hawaii's sunsets are incredible. For our engagement session, he had 1 assistant, Tiani who was very pleasant and great to work with. For our wedding, he had 2 assistant shooters Nick and Derick both of whom are amazing photographers as well. Above all, he really is a genuinely nice person. Eddy knew that we were new to the island so he took us hiking to the Lanikai pill boxes the day after our engagement session. It didnt even feel like we were being photographed by a photographer but by a friend. I am the bride and I am a photographer myself and It's really hard when you wish you can shoot your wedding day yourself, but it would look weird seeing the bride directing everyone with a camera and gear in hand. Having to find the right person is a challenge especially for a destination wedding. I interviewed six photographers (including some from the mainland) and out of all of them, Eddy was the most expensive. After looking at his work and feeling a good connection with him, we entrusted him with capturing the special moments of our wedding day. Now, as you may know, as the bride and groom there is so much going on, that you just go where your told, etc. I don't even really remember the day to be honest with you. I didn't want to have to think and I trusted Eddy to capture the day since we already discussed with him what we wanted. Unforeseen circumstances happen all the time, runaway brides, mother nature, etc. but that is never an excuse. We are in a digital technology world where you can see what the photo is going to look like. If someone is blinking, take it again. If someone's face doesn't look right, take it again. The camera also has the ability to do a burst shot capturing 10 photos/second (depending on the model). So you will have the ability to find the perfect shot. Eddy captured some great shots, don't get me wrong, I'm not going to ding him on that. He gets credit for it when or if we post it somewhere. We gave him several chances to fix things before posting this review. He knew we were going to write about our experience. However, you need to know that none of the photos with my wedding party look good. So I asked "Are there anymore shots of us with our wedding party?" Eddy indicated that there was no time with makeup running late and the grooms tie missing. That was hard to hear as I just explained above, all you gotta do is look at the screen. It only takes a second to let someone know they blinked or are standing funny, I'm really heartbroken as I do not have one good wedding group shot with my wedding party from my wedding day. Most of all, I was looking for someone to photograph us at sunset in silhouette as we are in Hawaii. We made this very clear as this was something we really wanted and he specifically told me that this was his specialty. Unfortunately, this was the wedding photo I wanted to frame and was looking forward to seeing and when we got the photos it wasn't there. I literally cried, that day has come and gone and I don't have the shots I wanted. I asked him, "where's the silhouette shots we planned for?" He told me that the railing was in the shot. That made me cry more. Then he sent the 2 shots he photoshopped, I cried again. I needed a few days to compose myself. I emailed him asking how bad the wide shots were with the railing? He then sent and email saying "here are the rest of the silhouette shots" This really was like a punch in the gut because they were clearly not edited. I ended up editing the myself and my husband responded to eddy this time showing him what I did in comparison to his original shots. Eddy responded a few days later with his editing processes and with the edited shots. My God, had he done that in the first place we would have loved it. But, he didn't and I have the original photos to back me up. I've attached a couple of examples of what we got and how I edited them. Unfortunately, I had to edit majority photos I got. The first example shows basic straightening and the second shot shows the silhouette photo before and after. I can't post all the photos, that would be too much. But willing to share more if asked. I just want share what happened to me. I'm not going to tell you anything bad about Eddy because I don't think that way of him. Just keep it in mind what I said. This is just the bride telling you her experience and what the outcome was on how my wedding day was captured. I have never seen such stunning photos before. Renai's photos pop and grab your eye. Eddy carries around several different lenses throughout the day and amazingly is able to capture every worthwhile moment with just the right lens. He changes the lens on his camera with such speed and yet always maintains a laidback composure. The excitement and frenzy of the day doesn't seem to stress him out. We were more than happy with the final set of pictures we received. My husband, who used to compete and win in amateur photography competitions, says that some of the pictures are the best composed pictures he's ever seen. We just had an engagement shoot last week with Eddy and all I can say is that he's absolutely amazing!!! We did not feel uncomfortable or forced into poses at all while working with him. ***First and foremost Eddy is one of the greatest people you will ever meet and choosing him as our wedding photographer was one of THE BEST decisions we made for our Wedding. All it took was one simple email, and Eddy was very prompt in his communication and returning emails. I mean WOW! I waited so long for other vendors (whom I ended up not hiring) because they took forever to respond. Not Eddy, the turn around time was like ASAP, and he was always open to any ideas/suggestions we had. He was not just our photographer by the end of the night he felt like family because he got to know each of our small party members and he was just a very genuine and professional person. We planned our wedding from Texas and I was not the type of Bride who had the whole thing planned out since I was 5 years old. lol So Eddy basically made us a Wedding timeline and that was a lifesaver because I did not hire a wedding planner. He made sure that we were all on time the day of, and kept our crazy families in sync. He asked what other Wedding vendors we hired and he had nothing but nice things to say. How sweet! :-) The day before our wedding he met with us in person to discuss the Wedding Day how it was going to go, and asked for any special requests, and of course my Mom had one for him, and he didn't forget to get the "mom pic" the day of our wedding. Simply awesome! The day of our Wedding he must of driven a million miles because again we tried our best to plan the wedding but unfortunately Our family was staying in Ko'Olina. So he drove from wherever he lives on the island to Ko'Olina to catch the "getting ready" photos of my husband and I. He then made sure amongst all the chaos that we left to our ceremony site with an adequate amount of time. Our ceremony was held at Makapu'u beach approximately an hour away! After the ceremony he honored our special request and took Bridal and Bride/Groom photos at Waimanalo beach...another drive down the road. To top off all the driving we then had our reception in Waikiki, then he walked us down to the beach to catch sunset photos! That was exhausting to type much less be the photographer responsible for capturing our entire day. For the ceremony Eddy brought a second photographer who was also very pleasant, and upbeat! I believe her name was Molly, she moved around faster than a Ninja...making sure she got the shots! The photos speak for themselves and the detail/quality is just jaw dropping. The detail is out of this world. I did upload photos from my i-phone which does not do much justice but they are still breathtaking and captured everything a Bride and Groom would want on their wedding day. Everyone who sees our photos is blown away. Please do yourself a favor and hire him for your wedding day because as a Bride you do not want to worry about a vendor not responding to your emails, being late, or being unprofessional. Eddy was top notch and simply a master artist in photography. I met Eddy from Renai earlier this year when I was scouting for a wedding venue and photographer. I came to Oahu to find at least 3 things: 1) venue, 2) photographer, and 3) wedding planner since I live on the mainland. Eddy was super easy to communicate with. In fact, he responds in a timely manner. His answers are elaborate and super helpful. I really like that about him! He even gave me suggestions for other vendors and venues to checkout. That was really helpful for me in my research! I really felt that he went above and beyond! He's also super easy going. When we met him, we really liked him and his energy. I really appreciated some of the ideas he presented and his willingness to work with us and our budget. My fiancé and I are a fan of his work! The vivid colors, the underwater shots, and the creativity he brings! Love it! Unfortunately, we didn't end up booking him for our wedding. I had my heart set on someone from home, whom I have followed and dreamed of having shoot my wedding. It was a really really tough decision because Renai is my top choice in Oahu! Great work, awesome personality, easy to work with and get along with, good communication skills, and helpful. Experience, Professionalism, Quality and Wonderful Service! This is what a you get when you hire Eddy as your wedding photographer. My wife and I had no idea what we were doing when planning our destination wedding in Hawaii. On the first day we met Eddy, he reassured us, walked us through what to expect on our wedding day, suggested vendors and created a rough draft of a time line for us to use. He was flexible, patient, and willing to go above and beyond to make our wedding planning experience a much easier one. One word describes his pictures, GORGEOUS! My wife and I were seriously thinking about not hiring a photographer and only relying on family and friends to take pictures for us. That would have been a huge mistake. Eddy is very personable and always responded to our emails/phone calls. He even gave us vendor recommendations. Eddy also met with us before the wedding to help us create a wedding timeline and had great suggestions for ways to make our wedding more unique/memorable. We had our wedding a few months ago, and yes - Mr. Eddy Fong is as awesome a photographer and gentleman as all the other reviewers say! Eddy's photos are well composed, well lit, and tastefully retouched. I'm also a photographer, having shot some 20 or so weddings before starring in my own. Selecting a wedding photographer is a major decision for anyone, and I quickly decided against most other photographers. You should decide for yourself if his style suits you. What you can't see from photos is his personality. Eddy is level-headed, patient, personable, and professional. If you are planning a wedding, the "level-headed" and "patient" aspects are key! My wedding was in November 2011 so this review is long overdue. Was going over my wedding pictures and wow!!! What a phenomenal job Eddy did. At first, I had my doubts about having only one photographer (Eddy!) to capture all the moments but he said it was totally fine since we only had a small wedding party of about 50 guests. It was also a long day for me since I had my chinese tea ceremony in the morning, chapel ceremony in the afternoon followed by the reception at the restaurant. During THE DAY, he was a nonstop ball of energy... I don't know how he does it but he was switching from camera to camera, lense to lens, and running around everywhere to capture the moment with the best background and lighting. Of course, he was so quick that we barely noticed him.... Not long after the wedding, we got our first 20+ pictures and we were all stunned with the professionalism and creative skill of Eddy's pictures. He can turn a boring rocky beach into an astonishing Hawaiian backdrop. Eddy totally exceed my highest expectations.
