Torched sushi
Vivian L.

A small sushi place tucked conveniently beside Sue's Market, clean, but with very limited seating , so I usually buy take out when coming to the market. So far i have tried their Spring Tray, i liked the salmon and disliked fried rolls. The torched sushi is heavily topped with sauce, not to my liking, i cannot taste which fish is which, but i do like the rice. Takoyaki is ok, doesn't have the topping as shown on the picture, either the avocado salad doesn't match the picture either. This is a problem for take out as people order as per the picture, will be disappointed if it doesn't match the picture. More efforts are needed to take actual pictures of what people will get.

We noticed this place on social media and decided to give it a try. We ordered the "winter tray" and felt given the price, quality and quantity was quite decent. We came back a second night to order the salmon lover set and sashimi lover. Unfortunately we found in the salmon lover 3 pieces of salmon that had black on it. We thought maybe it was just a bit black from something else that may have been torched sushi. I'm not one to waste food so cut into the fish to see if it was only on the surface (which I can live with and will eat) but found it was black through out the pieces. Maybe this is blood? Maybe not? Honestly having eaten sashimi regularly I have never seen this. Maybe we have been lucky so far, but if it doesn't look right I can't eat it. Sorry ren, I wanted to be friends but I can't trust you due to this

What drawn me to visit this place was the their $29.99 "omakase" AYCE 'cause I haven't seen any other places with the same concept and thought it was interesting. I called them for reservations on NYE and they told me that the $29.99 promo was over and the current price is $37.99, which I was okay with. There was only one other table that was occupied when I arrived for 6:30 but they had a lot of take out orders. The hostess (I assume is also the owner) said it's now AYCE and the concept of having to finish the first two portion (omakase style) is no longer available. Again, I was fine with that. We ordered a bunch of sashimi, rolls, and hand rolls. Everything tasted very fresh and yummy and the sashimi was thick. However, at $37.99 I would've expected more items on their menu. I saw on their poster that they had a 45 piece platter for $27.99 which imo is a much better deal so perhaps I'll return once more for take out but I don't think i'll be returning for AYCE. The restaurant itself is very brightly lit and clean and the lady that serving us was very nice and friendly.

Fish to rice ratio was not good. There was too much rice and the sashimi is cut thinly. Rice alone was not seasoned well. It's very budget friendly so don't expect much. Service was quick , my order was ready in 20 mins. Theres a few tables inside to dine in and there's ayce option

I give this place 5 stars for both the super friendly service by the staff and also for the food. Located in a strip mall in a very quiet area, you can almost miss this spot. I came here for their 29.99 all you can eat dinner and it was definitely worth the price. You need to eat this mandatory miso soup, salad and sushi/sashimi/ roll set before you can order what you want. The set is small and easy to finish. We made a mistake and that is that we ordered way too much. THE ROLLS ARE BIG! each roll is big with 8 pieces. Don't make the same mistake and order them all thinking they're easy to finish. Although me and my boyfriend finished the rolls., we were so extremely full after we were in pain. The staff even warned us TWICE that we were ordering a lot but we didn't listen. Next time we will. The sushi is good quality for an ayce place and we were highly satisfied with the selection of sushi/sashimi and rolls. Do keep in mind this place is not like other Japanese restaurants and for the ayce option there is no tempura/udon/etc that you would expect. Ur is strictly fish fish fish. There is also no dessert. But for this price you can not complain at all. Would come back.

My friend proposed to order Ren Shushi party tray since it had a promotion. It's soooo affordable and with a lot of sushi. We enjoyed it with great pleasure. I found many reviews are very picky about their quality. I just wanted to say their quality is good. And given its price, you know it's definitely not an omakase restaurant that competes to have Michelin stars. It's more like a local restaurant for the neighborhood and I love it

The party tray here is quite worth the price, suitable for a group of people to share together. 幾抵食嘅party tray,適合一班人一齊share

Tried their winter party tray. Taste was below average but for the price that was expected. The Service was quick, they were able to make it really quick. The shop was easy to find. They do have some sitting in the shop but it's mostly a take out shop.

We saw the winter tray on social media and thought we would try it as it's such a good deal. It is now 29.99 instead of 27.99 which was fine as it was still a good deal for rolls, nigiri and sashimi. You pay for what you get, the rolls were tasty but the nigiri and sashimi were quite bland. I've had better sushi trays out there for a bit more expensive. Not sure if I'll be back but the staff were very nice.

The food is great. The service is friendly. I got my full. I definitely recommend coming here especially when you dont feel like getting AYCE. It is a nice dine in allacarte place. They offered to upgrade one of the rolls for free to try it. I recommend to try it

Ordered the Winter Tray for pickup. With 45 pieces for $27.99, it's not just a great value but also a fantastic way to savor a variety of flavors.

Torched sushi combo picture is misleading and the description says torched press sushi.
Nikki C.

This was such a disappointment. I had high hopes as the pictures from the website looked really good. I ordered the 10 piece torched press sushi and got torched sushi which is completely different, see pic. I requested order pick up at 6:30 and they called us at 5:20 saying our order is ready for pick up. Although we got 30% off due to sale but still very upset customer and will never go back again.

Amazing price for party trays! The torch-pressed ones can be better but given the price this is a super good deal!

I wish I had photos - I got too hungry and forgot to take them . Pros: 1. One of the cheaper places for sushi. 2. The rice is lightly seasoned and they do not give you a large amount in comparison to the fillings. 3. The seafood are fresh. 4. Very friendly staff. 5. 98% of the time, they can make it in 10-15 minutes but if they are swamped, it can take up to 1 hour. When you call, they'll tell you an expected time. Or you can ask for the sushi to be made by a certain time. 6. If you are a frequent customer, they'll learn your name and know what you'll order. Cons: N/A It's a place I will keep going back to. Ordered tempura vegetables and shrimp with 6 pieces total was only around $9. This tempura tasted truly delicious compared to other pricier restaurants! The whole staff greeted us the moment we came in with smile and felt their kindness/patience while we were looking through the menu. They were very accommodating with changing spicy salmon roll to dynamite roll in the dinner sushi sets for me since I don't eat spicy food. Other restaurants would always charge extra regardless if the price was the same or cheaper. The rice ratio for the rolls was PERFECT! Definitely the best one I've seen by far. I would love to try their signature rolls next time to see if they're the same. I would come here again for lunch and check them out. -1 star because: The sushi to rice ratio is a little too much so I had to take some off unfortunately. Also the salad that comes with the sets was bland, lettuce and 3 strings of beets.

They do the "traditional" dishes with a twist / fusion. For example, the black cod is usually feel heavy with the miso based sauce, but they added some acidity to the sauce and they made the black cod taste rich and light (not to mention the black cod was perfectly cooked); traditionally the Brussels Sprouts would be finished by tossing balsamic vinegar over it. Sometimes that would still feel heavy. Instead, they tossed it with strawberry vinaigrette. So the acidity is very light and not too sweet. We finished our meal with the Yokai Signature Maki. Yes, they SHOULD be proud of this Maki enough to put their name on it. They hit it on the nail with the taste profile. I have a zero tolerance with spiciness, so they put the spicy mayo on the side, and I encouraged my wife to dip the Maki with it. She confirmed my suspicion that the spicy mayo took the maki to another level. We definitely will come to try other dishes. Edit: they comped us a slice of Matcha Cheesecake. While it is still not my cup of tea, but I was very impressed with how good it taste. My "dislike" is with cheesecakes because they feel heavy. Though it is still on the heavy side for me, but as soon as I spoon in a bit of the strawberry sauce, it just lightened up the whole thing. They have successfully amazed me with how well they play with taste.

I felt I had to shout in order for my friend to hear me who was sitting right across from me. I ordered: - brussel sprouts ($12) - tasty but salty - shrimp risotto ($22) - rice uncooked & salty - corn croquette ($10) - this was good - skewers sampler ($34) - quite overpriced for 6 skewers - forgot what drink was call but it was $8-$10 and was also very bland Everything was just overly salty. The only items I would order again is the brussel sprouts and corn croquette. However, portion size was quite small and not worth it overall.

Love the vibes, very casual, and the server was really friendly too. She was super enthusiastic when our group requested sake bombs. We went as a group of 7 with a reservation. For some reason, instead of seating a larger group at the stand alone (but combinable tables) at the front of the restaurant, they decided to sit us at a booth that holds six with the +1 in a chair in the pathway to the bathroom. Ordering food is done on 2 pieces of paper - one for sushi and one for all the other food. Unlike many other AYCE restaurants, there is no description of the food and there's no iPad to see a photo of what you might be ordering. It makes it very difficult to select, and the waiters are really not around to ask questions. They wanted all 7 of us to use the single paper. I explained to the waiter that I wasn't at a restaurant to do math and add up all the pieces and orders and go person by person. Could we possibly get a second set of papers so we could split the table into 2 groups? Yes, but with great difficulty. The food started to come. Overall, very fast from paper to food. So, where did they put the food? Right in front of me as one if the people sitting at the end. They would place plate after plate in front of me. Often with no explanation of what food it was. Apparently, it is the person at the end of the table's job to announce the food and identify the person(s) who it belongs to. So, with the number of dishes ordered, there was little opportunity for me to eat. There was also no place for me to place my food on the table in front of me. It was beyond frustrating. Along the way, they began forgetting to deliver food that was ordered and they began delivering food we did not order. I believe the restaurant should have placed us at the tables at the front of the restaurant. All large groups would benefit front this and all would be able to enjoy the food.
