I enrolled her in cheerleading and initially decided to pay per session because I wanted to make sure it was the right fit before making a larger commitment. The first session I paid for was primarily informational and did not include practice, which was confusing for my daughter because she came expecting to participate. At the second session, my daughter came in extremely excited. She is 4 years old and naturally a little wiggly, but she has experience taking dance classes and generally does well in structured activities. The check-in process took about 10 minutes, which can feel like a long time for a 4-year-old who is excited and ready to get moving. During her very first actual practice, she was isolated from the group and asked to sit and watch her peers. By the end of the practice, I could tell from her face that she was sad and discouraged. As a parent, that was difficult to see, especially because she had walked in so excited to cheer. I understand that coaching a group of young children can be challenging, and I understand that every child may not be the right fit for every program. However, my personal impression was that the coaching approach did not have the patience or flexibility needed for my daughter's age and activity level. There was also discussion about who would be competing, and we were informed that the competition uniform would cost a little over $100. Since we ultimately decided not to continue, we did not move forward with that expense. We left knowing that we gave the program a fair try, but ultimately, this organization is just not the right fit for our family. I do wish I had checked Yelp before enrolling, as I would have liked to have more insight into other families' experiences beforehand.
