I contacted Remarkable Refinishing several years ago about three pieces of solid maple furniture that I wanted refinished. Unfortunately, despite multiple attempts via email to reach them, I received no response. I took my business elsewhere, which turned out to be a bad experience, for which I have a separate review of that business. Recently, I called Remarkable Refinishing again about another project which included re-refinishing the three pieces I had done elsewhere that turned out badly. Perfect! Mark and his guy Brian transformed a pair of old maple dressers in to modern standouts. They were easy to work with and seemed to have everything to guide me to what I was trying to achieve. If I could give Mark and his team 10 stars I would. Mark refinished all of the wood trim in our house (including doors, doorframes, baseboards and very intricate picture rails) to it's original form, which is over 100 years old. Mark and his team were so pleasant, very funny, and very respectful. They were able to cover up damage that another company did to our wood when stripping the old paint off of it. Wow - I can't believe I forgot to write a review for Remarkable Refinishing! It's been a couple of years since they did restoration work for us, but I still am so impressed with the work that they did, I am always referring them to a friend or someone in my community. Let me preface this with a bit of background: I've spent a lot of time watching antique restoration techniques (and subsequent results) via high end collector friends. I've learned from them that f you want something done right - it usually does not take days, it can take months. So patience is a virtue when it comes to antique repair if you want it done right. With that said - I think the best thing I can say about Remarkable Refinishing is that I would not hesitate to take even my most valuable antique furniture there for repair or restoration, and they complete projects in a surprisingly timely manner. I believe they understand that preserving the integrity of the piece, without taking away it's value, is the goal. If you need something old to look new again, and are not concerned about damaging its value - I'm sure they can provide that for you. However, in our case, a very careful repair had to be done so as not to take anything further away from it's value. I believe they accomplished that goal. Not only can you not see the repairs that were done, the pieces were cleaned beautifully, and the price was absolutely fair. Last time I was there they had quite a heavy workload (based on the contents of their warehouse) - however - they can and do manage to squeeze in smaller jobs. I have e-mailed this place twice, sent photographs, explaining what I was thinking about...the whole thing through their website, and never once even an acknowledgement about the inquiry or anything else. I hate businesses that don't give a damn about potential customers. So, I took my set to LA. A little more costly but at least they respond. I wouldn't bother with this place at all. I recently had my kitchen remodeled by a contractor (NOT remarkable refinishing). We had the cabinets built by a local cabinet maker. The cabinets were built beautifully. But the finish the cabinet maker put on them was horrendous. Blotchy sprayed on stain, uneven and just awful! In desperation I called Remarkable Refinishing to see what they could do for me. We completely had to strip them down to bare wood again and refinish them. We decided on a stain and finish and in 2 weeks the entire kitchen was refinished and the completed product was installed and came out just beautiful. I could not have been happier. The name says it all - absolutely remarkable! My dining chair leg was broken off causing the H frame to break off as well. The back of the chair was also splinted open. I really didn't think the piece could be salvaged, but I took it in and Mark (the owner) fixed it within a week. It looks like new again! He even matched the staining on the chair perfectly and gave us some of the left over stain to use on other nicks on the table. Great customer service! The price was pretty comparable to other furniture repair shops I called. I paid a little over $200 - I know, sounds like a lot of money, but other shops quoted me a minimum of $200. Fixing the chair was my only option since I couldn't find the manufacturer of the table. I am so happy with the quality of work and the great customer service. I brought my mother's antique steamer trunk in to Remarkable Refinishing in September 2014 to be fixed/refinished and they told me it would be ready by November. I called for an update in December and again in January, and have not been called back. In the meantime, I don't know the status of the steamer trunk, if they've begun working on it or even still have it. Mark came out 2/27 to look at project and take info to provide quote; 2 plus week pass and no call back on quote; called left msg but couldn't mailbox full, sent email, days pass no response; called back talked to Mark (3/19) said will send quote next day...not happened, called (I know by now I should have moved on but wanted to see how bad they really were), called, no answer, got email from Michele (wife/owner) said Mark's cabinet/hinge person sick....Last straw, sent Remarkable Refinishers email saying they are very disappointing and not professional enough to let customer know they don't want to work... I have patience but for company who is suppose to be skilled craftsmen, they are pretty sad; I would guess they're out of business soon given they're total disrespect for customers. read more

We chose Remarkable Refinishing to repair and refinish our antique oak dining table which has been in the family for generations. We wanted the table brightened and refreshed, but not made to look new again. They did an outstanding job, exactly to our specifications. Mark and Michelle, the owners, are great people to work with. They know their business and clearly love what they're doing. I recommend them highly. My only concern is that it's not easy to reach them by phone. Luckily the shop is not far from where I live, so I was able to drop by in person to check on progress, which worked out fine. I would definitely use their services again in the future. read more

I brought them a simple hardwood end-table for repair. They were to disassemble the table and glue two broken joints. I went to pick it up the completed repair and there was a 1/32" to 1/16" air gap in the two joints. I left the table and returned the following day to discuss with the owner, Mark. Mark downplayed my concerns, so I applied a slight amount of pressure against the joint, maybe 5 or 10 lbs. The joint pop right in front of Mark. His reply was "Of course it pop like that. That's like dragging the table across the carpet." I do not expect an end-table to fall apart when I drag it across carpet. I had Mark disassemble the table again. I picked up the parts and completely the repair myself. No problems. By the way, Mark charged me the full price of the repair, $150. Do not use ReMarkable Refinishing. read more

I am a very happy customer with the out come of my 39 year young looking furniture. The bedroom set was once my mother's and is made of excellent quality wood and is also sentimental to me. The owner (Mark) and staff obviously knows exactly what they are doing when it comes to restoring furniture because mine looks absolutely gorgeous and brand new. Again I am so pleased and happy with how my five piece bedroom furniture turned out. And lastly, what was impressive are the two gentle (one being the owners son and the other from London) that picked up and delivered the furniture, they made sure that the pieces went where I wanted them and took proud in setting them up. BEWARE OF THIS BUSINESS!!! FLAKES OF THE 1ST ORDER I took two chairs in on a Wed, about noon, to get an estmate on having the arms refinished. Michele, one of the owners, said that her husband who does the estimates was out but he would be back about 3 and they would give me a call later that day. I did not hear back from them by noon Thur so I called and of course no one ever answers the phone at this "business" so I left a message to please call me. Again, no call back on Fri so I left another message. The message on the answeering machine said they were going to be out of the shop on Mon but back on Tues. I waited till noon on Tues, still no call back so i called and left another message to please return my phone call. I called again Wed morning and still no call back by noon so I went over and picked up my chairs and Michelle had the gall to tell me that she had only gotten one call from me. Who wants to do business with flakes like this. If it is this hard just to get an estimate, can you imagine what it would be like to try and get a job done after you had signed a contract. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. We called to request someone to come out and give us an estimate to redo/refinish our cabinets. They sch an appt between4-430 for someone to come out. Mark called us about 15 till 4pm and asked how many doors/drawers we had, we stated we werent sure that we were on our way home, he said to call him back with a number so he could see if it was even worth it for him to come out. Well why did you set an appt in the 1st place and make us confined home at a certain time? 2nd who gives an estimate over the phone because they are to lazy? Very unprofessional, when we asked him why an appt was even set and we had to be home at this time if he wasnt even going to come out. His response was "well you just dont have the money" WOW REALLY, and im assuming this is the owner of this company. Needless to say we always get 2-3 estimates for any work being done in our home, we want to meet the person doing it, on top of be explained the process being done. Yesterday we had NHance come out(they actually physicaly showed up) and the guy was super professional and explained the entire process. For obvious reasons we are using NHance. Be warned if you are dealing with this company. Oh did i mention remarkable is 25ish minutes from our home and NHance is over an hour, that says something in itself. My first attempt to call them was a failure since their mailbox was full and I could not leave a message. This is my first Yelp review but I was so impressed with the quality of their work, I had to write! I had a Heywood Wakefield coffee table (that was my mothers) for years after she passed away. I considered getting rid of it as it was marred and scratched but memorable so I decided to to have it refinished but to add my own accents with adding stained black to the the drawer and legs. So I did some research and took it to Mark at Remarkable....it is now the most beautiful piece of furnisher I own. They did such a fantastic job, I just keep staring at it.
