On Friday (19th), my daughter hit an ice patch while driving on EB I-196 near exit #41 and she spun off into the snow and mud in the median. As it was very cold and snowy, she was informed that AAA would take 2 hours to tow. The responding MI State Trooper suggested a tow and summoned it from an unknown source. Neither the Trooper nor the "Reliable " (Holland, MI) tow truck driver informed her of any possible charges. It took the tow driver approximately 10 minutes to pull out the car and leave it on the left shoulder of the highway within a quarter mile of exit #41. He didn't drop the car off where she could see how operational it was without speeding trucks and cars. He then proceeded to charge her $319.30 for this very limited service. She was very traumatized and upset by this whole incident, and she still had a 3 hour drive to make it home. Had she known the price beforehand, she would've called me back, and we would've refused the service.
I am extremely disappointed in the response that took advantage of a young and vulnerable woman. read more
