Brought my daughter's 2007 Mini in for service; picked Reliable based on 5-Star Yelp ratings. The ratings are correct. Scheduling the appointment is a breeze - used the online appointment scheduler, was confirmed in minutes. Drop-off is easy as well, you can use a key drop and leave the car after-hours. As a first time customer, it eased my mind when I saw that the shop is filled with all kinds of imports - Mercedes, BMW, Lexus .. and Mini. So these guys are specialists. I got a call before 10AM with an estimate (shop opens at 8). I'd had repairs estimated at the Mini dealer beforehand, so had an idea of the work that needed to be done. Reliable diagnosed the issues spot-on, and did the work for less than half what the dealer quoted. I had warning lights on the dash - check engine and brake. The check engine light turned out to be a loose wire on the oxygen sensor. The brake light turned out to be a faulty brake pad sensor. I could easily have been told that I needed a new oxygen sensor - or new brakes. And I would have taken that at face value. I'm always leery when working with a mechanic; since I'm not mechanically inclined I have to take their word on whatever repairs they recommend. And I've been burned in the past by paying for repairs that in retrospect weren't really needed. My experience here demonstrates that Reliable is a trustworthy business. Short version: Charged way too much [see photos] to fix problems the car DIDN'T HAVE, not seeing what did need to be fixed, horrible communication (at least 5 days of feeding me nonsense) drained my battery dead and ran the engine/drove the car long enough to put at least 2 quarts of oil inside the exhaust, DROVE THE CAR WITH ZERO OIL ACTUALLY IN THE ENGINE and apparently SABOTAGED (they had no reason to pull that hose off) [see photos] the car when I told them I was taking it to a different mechanic!!!! Long version: On 1-19-22 my 2017 VW Golf was towed in for repair (I was pretty sure the turbo was blown and told them) I asked them to take a look and give me a estimate when they found out and they called me on the 20th telling me the head needed to be rebuilt and would cost over 5K, I asked if the turbo looked ok and they acted like they didn't want to even check until I committed to the other stuff and I asked them to email me the estimate and tell me if the turbo would need to be replaced and if so how much that would run before they started working on it (they never did) so I called them back on the 21st and asked what they found and once again if they would give me some kind of written estimate, they didn't check so I asked them to confirm no major repairs (like replacing the turbo) would be necessary once again on the 24th and they said they would call me on Tuesday the 25th and let me know (I told them I didn't want to do a $5,500 repair just to turn around and have to pay another 5K to fix something they missed (THE F'ING TURBO). Sooo on the 26th after never hearing from them I called and asked what was up, they said they didn't want to get too deep into checking if I wasn't going to have the repairs done.. but I guess they didn't want to actually tell me that so they held my car for 7 days and apparently did nothing so I went there and told them I wanted to take my car out the kid at the desk said he had to talk to his manager, after a few minutes he came back and told me it would take about a hour to get it back together, I said if you never did any work to the car why would it take a hour, "I need my car now, the tow truck is on its way" so they jumpstarted my car and DROVE it out of the shop (if the head was damaged so bad why did they drive it) I asked why the battery was dead the kid said his manager accidently left the car on.. On top of all that they charged me $125.65 just to play games with me, kill my battery and run all the oil out of the blown turbo and run the engine for god knows how long with absolutely no oil in it (something even I know better than to do). BTW I got my car fixed for a fraction of the price this shop was going to charge me (the turbo was broken). UPDATE: even though they didn't want to do any actual work on the car to diagnose what was wrong with it until I agreed to pay FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS TO FIX SOMETHING THAT WASNT BROKEN they did have time to disconnect the hose in the picture costing the future mechanic time and stress, after doing the repairs he had to inspect the car to check for other signs of sabotage. Pam, Mike, and whoever worked on my car - thank you very much. Was very easy to make the appointment, and although i brought my 2006 Toyota 4 Runner for CV boot replacement as previously diagnosed at a dealer's service department at an exorbitant repair fee, they found CV boot repair (they had much better rate) was not required. They even took pictures and showed me the area dealer said was leaking - no leaks, no repair was immediately required as the dealer service department had said. What they did find was a skid plate that was hanging such that every time I made a sharp right hand turn, there was an awful scraping of metal on metal. One skid plate bolt was missing, the rest were loose and the plate was hanging down in the passenger front wheel well. Interesting how the dealer service department was probably in that area to mis-diagnose the CV boot replacement. I'm very angry at the dealer but very happy that Reliable Import Service fixed my issue. Can you imagine what would have happened at highway speed if a big chunk of metal fell off underneath my car, very dangerous situation caused by the dealer service department. They are an honest, talented, caring bunch of folks and I'll be glad to take my car back to them for service in the future. read more

After purchasing a 2nd generation Acura MDX I needed to change the timing belt since there was no history of it ever being done. Reliable Imports was awesome! I can't say enough good things. I took my VW in to my regular mechanic. He gave me a printout of 6 codes my car was giving, told me it was a $1500 repair, and that I needed to go to a VW specialist because he didn't have the tools. My car was stalling out and didn't seem safe so it needed to be somewhere really close. Reliable Import was 3 mins away. I handed off my key and the list or error codes, assuming it wasn't even worth repairing at that cost. I spent the next day looking at new cars and figuring out how to do a trade in. At the very end of the day, Brooke called saying they did a significantly less expensive treatment and I was good to go. She explained how the mechanic decided to go with his gut, rather than the codes, and it ended up just being an oil leak causing everything to glitch. I can not express how much I appreciate their honesty, knowledge, and professionalism. I'll be switching to Reliable Imports for all of my car repair needs from now on. 10/10 read more

My last service at Reliable Imports was horrible. Lee Haywood and I discussed what needed to be done to my vehicle and gave me a estimate of cost, which I agreed too. Lee kept my vehicle a week, with no explanation as to why he did not fix my vehicle as agreed. Over the years Lee had employees to go and come, short of help during the process. My thing is to be honest with customers, if you say you are going to fix my vehicle by a certain time do i Be true to your word, and Lee Haywood you did not do that. Where's the reliable, professional service go, out the window. You should change the name of your shop to ' Messy Reliable Imports ' and see how that works for you. Brought my Volvo XC70 in for a standard oil change. It was fairly priced and didn't take too long (about 30-40 minutes). The staff is very friendly here. I was even offered a donut by the service manager when another customer brought them some. I researched this business well before taking my 08 Honda Accord in for repair. They had great reviews, but they clearly underwhelmed my expectations. The repair bill was a little over $800. The same problem came back after approx. 125 miles, so I took it back, and was presented with a $1400 repair estimate for the same problem. This is within a week of the original repair. I left, called back to speak to the owner twice. It has been about 3 weeks now, and I have yet to receive a call back. I will remedy this thru Wake County small claims court after this Covid-19 pandemic blows over if I survive. Good luck if you choose to use this business. While he had the car in the Raleigh area the drivers window failed. He took my car to Reliable and they fixed it for far less than what a dealer would charge.
