Ace Hardware - Outside in parking lot... yes this Ace Hardware delivers

Got a lot done today at Ace: kitchen knife sharpening, make backup copies of house keys, and picked…read moreup an online order for mason jars on sale. Ailien was so helpful and so sweet. She seems to be more senior (experienced) on the team because she definitely knew all the answers, like setting up the knife machine and finding my missing order and making it right. Ace has sooo much you can get here. I forgot you can buy grills, meat seasoning, picture hanging, gardening tools and so much more here. Next time I ought to budget way more time to meander and check out everything I need for my home and yard.

Location 4 stars: In the Porter Ranch Town Center's West end, in the former Toys R Us building…read more Plenty of free self parking on premises. Venue 4 stars: Large and modern. Well structured and offering a full selection of DIY and home and garden goods. They are not as builder/contractor oriented as say Home Depot or Lowes, but great for everyday needs. One great thing is that they are never busy. It is easy to get in and out quickly. Main reasons that I could see for the lack of crowds compared to other hardware superstores is the low turnout of contractors and the higher prices (discussed further down). Service 3 stars: I have always found this aspect of Ace Hardware hard to rate. Sometimes you walk in and there are smiling faces everywhere, greeting you and asking you if you need any help. Other times you will not find anyone to assist you and keep wandering the aisles. Overall service is better than Home Depot or Lowes but it could also be much better! Merchandise 3.5 stars: Again not as elaborate as Home Depot or Lowes, but good enough for a neighborhood hardware superstore when you need something quick. Convenience 4.5 stars: For me, they are the closest hardware superstore, about a mile away. Next closest are Lowes in Northridge (4.5 miles) and Home Depot in Canoga Park (7.5 miles). Not having to fight traffic, compete for parking spots, parking next to huge work trucks and getting dinged by them or the lumber carts, and not paying extra for gas is worth it, especially when I need something in a jiffy. Prices 2 stars: Generally much higher than Home Depot or Lowes. In one instance, a part that was $10.99 at Lowes, Home Depot AND Amazon, was $13.99 at Ace. This is 27% higher! Now every price may not be this much higher but as a general rule always expect to pay more for the convenience. The Bottom Line 4 stars: Convenience and lack of crowds wins it for me!

I am looking for a pump, and clicked on an ad for Harbor Freight's a Drummond 3/4 HP Submersible…read moreUtility Pump, Stainless Steel Construction, 4400 GPH-so I called the store and got an absolute run around for 15 minutes. First person who I spoke with told me the item was not in stock and when I asked her if any other stores had it in stock she immediately said no, it only shows one available. I asked her where that one was and she said "what do you mean?"....I said-you told me that it shows there is one available-I want to buy it, where is it? She said oh you can't buy it, it is a display. Ok.... So I then ask her how long it would take to get one if I order it? her reply was "What do you mean" Me - I am not sure how to rephrase that-your item is out of stock, I want to order one. She told me that they do not take orders... So I ask-so your company is advertising a product that is not in stock in your store, or any other store and I cannot order it-she said yes. So I asked to speam with a supervisor-perhaps that person can help me figure out how to purchase the item they are advertising. After 5 minutes on hold, another person comes on line, and after going through all the same information, he also tells me there are "not any available within at least a 100 mile radius", I ask if he can perhaps suggest a comparable pump? While still on the phone with him, I go back to the website hoping he will offer a suggestion, and the link for the pump I called about shows that it is in stock 5 miles away and ask him why it is showing they have them if there aren't any in a "100 mile radius" he says "let me check....uhhh oh...yes they show that there are 3 in stock". Are you kidding me?? So apparently BOTH of these people were too lazy to actually check and see if there any in stock anywhere else? They need to do some serious customer service training here-these associates do NOT care about customers or sales.

I love that they're a catch all! At check out I found dog treats, cbd, cards, soaps, etc. lots and lots of variety! I bought some of the most gorgeous coordinating large pots a few years back. They were so different, geometric. When we've come they've always had helpful staff. Their paint mixing guy is knowledgeable. Their staff in the garden section is as well. Sometimes I'll go to one of the more "convenient" home improvement chains, but 80% of the time after looking through aisles and aisles of cookie-cutter boxes of hardware designed for contractors I will come up empty handed and head over to Franklin's wondering why I didn't just start here. I have always, ALWAYS, found the hardware I need, no matter how obscure the screw, nut, or fitting, at Franklin. Tiny brass screws to fix an antique clock? They'll have it. "Euro" style screws that came with your cheap Ikea cabinet? They'll have it. A bushing for a kitchen appliance that is an odd size... they will have it. Additionally the folks who work here are super friendly and helpful! Another reason why anyone looking for anything a hardware store carries should start here. There is a small parking lot in the back, and metered parking on the street. They are an "Ace" hardware franchise so if you need to pick up an order from the Ace website this is a location that you can select (I've done this several times). They also do re-screening, and knife sharpening. It's truly one of the last remaining neighborhood hardware stores and I can't recommend it highly enough.
