I'm a homeowner and when you own a home, you end up at a hardware store more often than you'd like. Well, more often than I would like. I am not very handy. My skills are pretty basic but when I need something, this is where I go. Anything to not have to shop at Home Depot. These days is fine by me, but beyond that Franklin's is a neighborhood staple. The employees there are always very knowledgeable and easy to find when you need help. They answer your questions and if they don't know the answer they find out for you. Remember how stores used to be like that? Yes. This is what you were missing. Franklin's is old school and maybe the prices are a little higher here and they don't have as much of a selection as a big store, but I'd rather support this small local business any day of the week. read more

As usual, the big-box store disappointed in their not having what I need. Also as usual, Franklin Hardware did have what I needed. The store employee asked what I needed, I handed him the bag with the broken spring in it and he said, "follow me". He went right to the set of drawers that would have this $1.69 part that saved me $hundreds on a BMW trunk-latch. Big spender me bought two. ;-) The latch is now as good as new. With the advent of youtube videos, and the continuing story of Franklin Hardware, you can fix darn near anything. I also noted a great selection of what will be excellent quality Xmas gifts for next year. Great kitchen knives and big selection of Weber BBQ stuff, for a couple of them. They call it "True Value", but it's truly more like priceless value. Nobody saves your bacon better. read more

In some ways it's kind of a blend of a nursery & general store in addition to being a hardware store. They are extraordinarily well stocked. I even picked up birthday cards here. I love that they're a catch all! At check out I found dog treats, cbd, cards, soaps, etc. lots and lots of variety! I bought some of the most gorgeous coordinating large pots a few years back. They were so different, geometric. When we've come they've always had helpful staff. Their paint mixing guy is knowledgeable. Their staff in the garden section is as well. It's a very convenient store right off Ventura. And the size makes it much more navigable than Home Depot! read more

The best hardware store in the area, hands down. In an era of "big box" stores a gem like Franklin's is an oasis. Sometimes I'll go to one of the more "convenient" home improvement chains, but 80% of the time after looking through aisles and aisles of cookie-cutter boxes of hardware designed for contractors I will come up empty handed and head over to Franklin's wondering why I didn't just start here. I have always, ALWAYS, found the hardware I need, no matter how obscure the screw, nut, or fitting, at Franklin. Tiny brass screws to fix an antique clock? They'll have it. "Euro" style screws that came with your cheap Ikea cabinet? They'll have it. A bushing for a kitchen appliance that is an odd size... they will have it. Additionally the folks who work here are super friendly and helpful! Another reason why anyone looking for anything a hardware store carries should start here. There is a small parking lot in the back, and metered parking on the street. They are an "Ace" hardware franchise so if you need to pick up an order from the Ace website this is a location that you can select (I've done this several times). They also do re-screening, and knife sharpening. It's truly one of the last remaining neighborhood hardware stores and I can't recommend it highly enough. read more

Omg Ace hardware is amazing especially compared to Home Depot. I always complain that it's more expensive but just had a project that we needed to repair a zone where our sprinklers were not working properly. You cannot compare the 2 chains. Ace has superior service. You can actually get help which is basically none existent in horrendous depot. I would rather pay the extra $$ and not leave frustrated every time I have a project. After an awful, Thanksgiving-ruining experience at Fireside BBQ, we hopped into Franklin's Ace Hardware to purchase a Big Green Egg and all its fun accoutrements. And, service was aces (pun intended) when it came to selecting a large BGE and the right accessories. Jeff, the resident BGE expert, helped us gets of all our Qs answered in a charming, professional manner, which was in contrast to the exploitative, fear-mongering sales tactics used at Fireside BBQ. I have been going there many years, something has changed. I recently bought a light timer, it was defective, so I returned it, a few days later, with the original receipt, and packaging. The cashier had to call a manager and the manager had to verify it was defective and that took some time. I have never had them question a return before. In 2025, most stores, Home Depot, Loews, don't make customers wait while someone verifies a return is defective, they just return the money. I feel this is poor service and not typical of the past experiences I have had there. Something has changed. I will shop elsewhere for my hardware needs. read more

Here's a local store that neither offers the convenience of Amazon, the price of Home Depot nor the customer service one might expect from a local store. Nor, it seems a manager that understands basic math. I purchased $75 of merchandise the other day - and earned a $15 discount. As a result I understood clearly I could not return the items for what I actually paid (accounting for the $15 discount) So, not wanting to loose my discount I requested simply to do an even exchange and then pay in full for some additional items I desired to purchase. But the manager insisted I return not exhange the items, which meant I lost my discount. But then he lost the sale of additional items I wanted to purchase and as I informed him - he also lost a customer. read more

This place has been in business since 1952 and they have people that work here that know what they are doing, and can give good advice. Plus, they're friendly and treat you like they want your business. You could go to a big box store but why? When you can get good help, you can get lots of products, you get personalized advice, you have a person that knows what they're doing the help you and actually can have a very good interaction with you person-to-person. Why go anywhere else? If you garden, they have all kinds of gardening things plants also. You wouldn't know that from the front because they're right on Ventura Boulevard, but if you go in the back and park in their private parking lot, walking into that green is like walking into a slice of Heaven in busy los angeles. If you want to feed your plants organics, they have all that I can give you advice on them. You will not find that a big box stores. The blonde lady that was in the garden area seems to know her stuff and was very warm and friendly. . I came in to get a key made, and Caryn helped me . She was warm, personable, give me some options for the key, gave me some advice on the keys really impressed with her warm and customer service orientzed manner. It's up to all of us to keep small business and business so we have choices. You won't be disappointed coming here if this place has everything I could spend all day taking pictures of everything they have. Me, hardware and fixing things is like oil and water. Home Depot didn't have what I was looking for, therefore an employee recommended I check out Franklin's Ace Hardware. Luckily, Franklin's had what I needed for such a steal (meaning excellent price). An employee who goes by the name of, "Cash" was able to find the part I needed within the store. Then, Cash went above and beyond, when he offered to fix the problem on my car with the part I purchased from Franklin's. Now that's Yelp worthy service! A gem. Well stocked, well staffed, and has a private lot in the back. Pretty competitive pricing and trust me I goto lowes, diy center and Home Depot a lot. This place has the hook up. Every time I need a specific item I call and they usually have it and they'll have plenty of units. Pretty obvious choice to go here for house fixes. They have a program that aggregates points and offers birthday coupons etc. Bit on the cozy side but has tons of products. There is always someone there to give you advice and make sure you get the right replacement parts.The staff at Franklin's always steer me right and send off knowing what I'm doing. Horrible customer service. Worker at the desk brushed me off didn't give me any alternatives. Unprofessionally denied service with aggressive. He was more concerned with unloading the truck as he claimed to me 4x. Impatiently denied service without any reason when i needed something fixed. He told me he needed to get the truck unloaded for the day and would rather deny me service then suggest ideas and sale me a service. I was extremely happy to pay for any service to be done by my neighbor hardware store. I have lived in the valley for 25 years and have come to Franklin's for years as a child with my father and now as an adult. This will be the last time i set foot in this place after this careless act by the two workers who serviced me. Enjoy unloading your truck. *UPDATE* from 1 star to 5 I was Frustrated and unhappy with my one bad experience. I have been coming to Franklin's Hardware for 40 years. Not only do I like to support small business owners, I am never treated like a "woman" instead of a human being here... until today. We have many propane tanks. I exchange them regularly here. 3 of the last batch were defective so I brought them back with many others to exchange. Stevie was "assisting" with the propane. I told him the 3 full tanks were defective. He claimed only two of the tanks were full (one was at least 3/4 full) and kept asking which tanks were defective. He then began mansplaining how to use propane tanks and was so incredibly rude to me. To end this "debate" I went in and paid for another tank. He then proceeded to walk away and watch me lug these tanks myself to the car instead of offering to help. I'm not expecting help because I'm a woman, it's the proper thing to do - man or woman. I am so disappointed by the quality of service and the fact the manager said nothing to Stevie when I brought this to his attention. read more

I really don't have enough nice things to say about Franklin's. This store epitomizes a neighborhood business. People here are friendly and helpful. If someone doesn't know the answer to my questions, they call someone who does -- and the store is well staffed. For a small business they are surprisingly well stocked with most of what one might need for small, medium, and even some larger jobs. I especially like that most of the employees here are over the age of 30 and have both professional and life experience. This is a completely different experience from what most of us have to come to expect when we go to a giant home improvement retailer. Special shout out to Gabby (one of the youngest employees here) who has always made me feel at home, makes a point of saying hello and using my name when I come into the store, and going out of her way to make sure my experience is positive. read more

As young(ish) first-time homeowners, we went into Franklin's a lot, and we were always treated like neighbors. Quick to assist you with a smile and knowledgable customer service, and equally quick to tell you where to get something they didn't have. We live in a world where "customer service," will go the way of Directory Assistance and Shoe Repair, gone but not forgotten. Thank Gawd we still have Franklin Hardware. I have been a 40-year customer of Franklin's and I dread the day this relic of EXPERT customer service is gobbled up by the impersonal, frustrating and gargantuan big box home improvement stores. Places where finding someone to help you is as hard as finding what you need. However, Franklin's is more than that. It's like that bar on the TV show Cheers, it's "where everybody knows your name." Or face or even in they don't know you, the quality service is always the same. However, my last wonderful experience goes beyond the norm and I felt compelled to write about it. I'm in the middle or a huge remodel forced by an electrical fire. My life is in chaos, my pores are filled with dust and dirt, and not having even done anything like this I am overwhelmed. My house is being completely rewired, my roof is being replaced, and i;ll need to have it painted inside and out. While all this is being done I figured I'd go ahead and completely replace the flooring and redo the kitchen counters. So, I needed to buy a sink. My first call, as always was to Franklin's. I asked for Chip, the owner, who grew up in this store, opened in 1951. "Chip, I need a sink and I don't know the difference among porcelain, stainless or this new composite stuff, "" I said. "You're asking the wrong person, Chip admitted, let me get my wife, Kim, she's my kitchen go-to. Seconds later Kim got on the line and proceeded to give me 10 solid minutes of information about all three types of sinks, adding, "believe me, I know abut this, we remodeled our kitchen a year and a half ago." That's not all, she even told me where I could get the best deal--and it wasn't at Franklin's! Going through this major remodel without the experience and the expert advice I get at Franklin's helps me sleep better at night knowing the decisions I have to make are educated decisions, thanks to Chip, Kim and the patient and expert staff at Franklin's. read more
