I tried to call this Relaxing Day spa and got hung up one when I tried to schedule a couples massage for my husband and I for our honeymoon. When the lady answered she was rude and refused to give me further information all because I had a phone number from a different state. News Flash lady I am a massage therapist in KcKs and was just wanting to relax while out of of town on my honeymoon. We called ahead and scheduled couples 30 minute chair massages. When we arrived they told us they couldn't do 2 chair massages at the same time, but we could each get an hour full body massage for $10 more. There was a language barrier and communication was lacking. I had no idea what I was going into. It was an experience to look back on and say I did that and won't again. This was way beyond deep tissue massage. It felt like I was being punched and my partner actually had bruises from her massage. At one point in the massage the person abusing me left the room and I wondered what was going on and thought about bolting, but the she returned to abuse me more with hot stones. Maybe this is what some people like, but having someone climb on me, punch me, and burn me is not my idea of massage. I prefer a relaxing massage and this massage made me tense. read more

The minute I walked in the lady DEMANDED a $20 tip. I told her that I will tip her based on the service satisfaction . She was annoyed by someone else tipping her $5 dollars prior and was not going to start my one hour massage until she charged me for the massage and $20 tip. This was just like the foot massage I had in China. I've been looking for this to come to Cedar Rapids and was excited when this place opened. Just like in China, multiple chairs are set up in the room (similar to a pedicure) isn't a typical massage. It starts with a face and head massage. Then they massage your legs and feet. It feels wonderful. I highly recommend this for someone who likes to have their feet massaged. read more

WOW! My husband and I decided to try out a couples massage today at a new asian spa, "Relax'n Day Spa". It's only a couple weeks old, so they're running a special for an hour-long foot accupressure massage for only $30. With that price, I really didn't know what to expect... Well it's a chair massage in an open, dark, relaxing room (there are a few chairs in there, like a pedicure room) and soft music is playing. The massage is fully clothed, so you should wear a tank top and soft pants to get the most out of the massage. The chair is a mix between a lazy boy chair, a pedicure chair, and a massage table. Anyway, the "foot massage" started off with me soaking my feet while they massaged my face, head, neck and shoulders. Then they massaged my arms and hands. Eventually they massaged my lower legs and spent some extra time massaging my feet. The massage is a combination of a swedish massage and a pressure point massage. At the end of the foot massage I thought it was over, but no! Then the chair lowers flat and you lay on your stomach (still fully clothed) and they massage your legs, back, shoulders and neck. The massage lasted the full hour and was SO RELAXING. AND since it was Valentine's day they gave us free cupcakes and a rose! Both my husband and I will be going back! This was by far the weirdest and most uncomfortable massage I've ever had. I had the Groupon for the hour massage with essential oils and hot stones. When I walked in the room, there was a disposable paper sheet on the bed that I think I was supposed to crawl under, but the masseuse didn't speak the language and walked out of the room without giving me any indication of what I was supposed to do. When I asked, she threw the sheet under the table revealing just a white towel and nothing to cover up with. I retrieved the paper from under the bed and used it to cover myself. The massage itself was very rough, lots of slapping and spine-rubbing. When I asked the masseuse to be "softer," she would acquiesce for about a minute and then go right back to a very, very hard pressure and extremely vigorous pace of rubbing. I felt like my muscles were just flinching the whole time instead of being able to work into the muscles and release the tension. She left the room multiple times to retrieve various items and didn't cover me up with a towel or anything (and let me emphasize that I was UNCOVERED), and other patrons would have to walk right past the room I was in to get to the bathrooms. The moment I knew I was definitely not returning to this place was when she stuck her fingers inside my ears. Like, in my ear canal. Not cool. They also covered the head pillow with the breathing space in it with a paper towel. Paper towels are not exactly easy to breathe through, so I ditched that pretty early on. If you are used to this kind of massage, perhaps you would enjoy it more. I will be sticking with the good folks at Hands in Harmony in Cedar Rapids from now on. Other reviewers have good things to say about the reflexology, so perhaps that is more their strength. At any rate, I won't be back. read more

I had the full massage and my opinion mirrors what Lynn S. said. It wasn't relaxing, he was rough and jerked my body around. It was very weird that he climbed on top of me and used his arms. The hot stones were TOO hot. I was totally stressed, I even told him to he was being too rough. When I made the appointment they spoke in English and said I would have a female masseuse and that is not what I got. Either the company has new owners or they did a bait and switch. The language barrier was terrible. When I was leaving and standing in the lobby, I tried to ask questions. He could not understand anything I was asking. When I turned to leave he pointed to a sign and said "tip", "tip". The sign was explaining their recommended tipping guidelines. OMG! I told him I had left the tip in the massage room. So he can say one word in english: TIP. I would not go back again. The whole experience was not good. read more
