As someone who enjoys walking outdoors near bodies of water, I truly enjoyed this walk. There was a good amount of seating throughout the park. There were various other recreational courts that you can use alongside, public restrooms, outdoor grills, large fields to gather in for picnics, workouts, etc. There is also a good amount of public parking. Secret Lake Park is lovely, and it is also peaceful. You can fish or just enjoy overlooking the lakes in a moment of solitude. Speaking of lakes, Secret Lake Park is made up of a series of lakes at varying sizes that you can walk near/around. They also have some historical boards in the park that you can read about the history of the lakes.

You can reserve a pavilion in the park office in person. I paid $40 for a reservation on a Saturday morning that could have held up to 40 people and it was located right next to the restrooms and there was even a beach volleyball set up which was really fun. Popped by Big Tree Park this past weekend, and what a nice little park. It is located within the…read moreSpring Hamock Preserve. The park is home to The Senator, a large cypress tree that was 3,500 years old (sadly, it was mostly burned down in a fire), and Lady Liberty, aged 2,000 years (to name a few). While the trees themselves are the lure, the park does have some amenities like a playground, public restrooms, and areas to sit down, eat, and relax. The park has raised walkways, and the canopy of overhead tree coverage creates a cool escape from the Florida sun. Just come prepared with some bug spray - the mosquitoes are at play with all the humidity. Also, they have a handful of plaques throughout the park that provide a brief history of the trees and the park itself. All in all, it was a quick little side quest with a nice little history lesson infused. There is a good amount of parking, and it is truly a quiet and peaceful little park. If you are in the area, it's worth the detour.

Big Tree Park is located in a corner of Spring Hamock Preserve. The park is famous for having the…read moreThe Senator, a champion bald cypress that was 3,500 years old. The tree was named for State Senator Moses Overstreet, who owned the land around the tree and donated it to the county in 1927 for use as a park. In 1929, President Calvin Coolidge visited the Senator for the park's dedication. The Senator was a popular tourist stop for many years. The Seminole Tribe of Florida used the tall cypress as a landmark, and in the 1800's sightseers paid for buggy rides through the swamp, then hopped a series of logs to make it to the tree. A boardwalk was added to make it easier to access The Senator. Sadly it burned down in 2012 in an arson fire caused by a drug addict. Visitors to the park can see the remains of The Senator along with some informational signage. Big Tree Park is also home to Lady Liberty, a 2,000 year old historic Bald Cypress, and the Phoenix, a genetic clone of The Senator. While the trees are the real draw to the park it also has a cute playground in the center island, which lets kids play inside a replica of a cypress trunk. There is a picnic pavilion and restrooms if you want to bring a lunch. Big Tree Park is a stop on the Cross Seminole Trail used by cyclists and runners.

I'm sad to see the native green anoles are being over run by the invasive brown anoles, but they are both cute. The perfect break if you're in town for a busy convention or meeting. If you're coming to visit the art museum, plan on an hour or so to stroll through this park.

What a beautiful lake to walk or run around ! Located in…read moreAltamonte springs right of of the I4 exit and in uptown Altamonte this is a wonderful outdoor area. I decided to get my cardio in and the run was amazing with such a pretty view of the lake , ducks, turtles, flowers and a new heron sculpture. One lap around is a mile so after I hit my 3 miles, I sat on the benches located directly on the lake and truly enjoyed the morning sunshine and breeze. There were tons of people getting their cardio on and of all ages which was very ice and I felt very safe. There is a stage area located near the road where live concerts and events take place Monthly. They have a posting area to see all the upcoming events and even have health walks and seminars coming up. Even though this was a bit of a drive for me, I truly enjoyed getting my run in with a new view and will definitely come back again.

Crane's Roost Park is such a beautiful space not just for attending fireworks, festivals, concerts…read moreor other events. It's a great place to go for a walk. There were families taking a walk while others were fishing or having a picnic. A pair of photographers were out taking pictures of the wildlife in and around the park. The park grounds are kept and well maintained. There are plenty of parking spaces available with multiple access points to the park. On our walk, we came across a food truck that was stationed near the park. Culinary Concepts by Chef Pierre offers a variety of food options from burgers, fish sandwiches to shrimp and ribs. Chef Pierre can be found on Thursdays and Fridays at different locations/apartment complexes. We ordered the Fried Fish, French Fries and Coleslaw combo. We did, however, opted out of the French Fries. The Fish was fried golden brown and was crispy. The Coleslaw was fresh and delicious. Chef Pierre and his staff were friendly and welcoming. We have been searching for new parks to frequent since we recently moved to the area. Crane's Roost Park is definitely at the top of our list and now our go to park. We will also keep a look out for Culinary Concepts by Chef Pierre next time we visit Crane's Roost Park.

It's a quiet, easy 0.5-mile trail that's clearly loved and respected by the local community, and it's well maintained for a safe, enjoyable walk. The trail takes you beneath the historic masonry street bridge, with winding creeks, charming wooden bridges, and giant elephant ear plants along the way. It was such a fun place to explore on a Saturday evening. I'll definitely be back in March to see the azaleas in bloom. Good to know: there's convenient parking across the street at the adjacent Mayor Carl T. Langford Park, which also has additional amenities.
