Cool educational facts around the playground
Ricarta C.

Absolutely enjoyed this park in winter springs . So many activities there and the views are amazing. From fishing , to jogging the train, playground area , splash pad area to a huge sandpit area .. it has it all ?'!! My family truly enjoyed being out doors and we will frequent this park more now . 5 stars for all ages.

I was here on an early Sunday morning and it was pretty much just me. However, I am sure this place is pretty busy later with the water play area. They have kind of a rustic nautical thing going on and for the most part, it works. My biggest complaint with this park is that they should put some effort into cleaning up the little lake on the property. Torcaso Park is a nice enough park overall and i would ultimately recommend a visit here.

A really nice park to go and hang out with the friendly birds. Best time is to go during the week daytime as it's pretty quiet.

As a nature lover I enjoyed the many boardwalks with views of the lake and the sidewalk which meanders through the entire park. It is perfect for walking for exercise and I saw the cutest marsh rabbit as I made my way through the park. There are also two fishing piers. Kids will spend hours playing and on the two imaginative playgrounds. Secret Lake Park is also home to the recently renovated Casselberry Recreation Center which has a main room, ballroom, billiards room, computer room, outdoor deck area, activity room, and outdoor pavilions. Merrill Park is a lovely little gem of a park that is nestled in the heart of Altamonte Springs, FL…read morenear the Altamonte Mall. I found out about this park because I came with my wife, our son, and our granddaughter for a playdate. The park is home to the Altamonte Fast Pitch Academy and Babe Ruth Softball. They have three full size softball fields that are used for the softball academy, for Babe Ruth Softball, and you can also use them to practice on as well. Located between the three fields is a concession stand and the restrooms. What I really lived about this park is the three playground areas they have, each playground has their own set of things for kids to play on and a different theme for each area. They also have a swing-set area which includes a swing that you can sit in with your child and be able to swing together. There are also to pavilion areas for you to choose from one is called Oak Pavilion and the other is the Beach Pavilion which has two beach volleyball courts for you to play volleyball on which is a nice touch. Lastly I love the scenery of the park it has lots of great looking trees around the park. So if you are ever in the Altamonte, FL area and you want a nice secluded park to take your family to then I would recommend Merrill Park.

Located in Altamonte Springs near Jamestown and 434, Merrill Park has three softball fields and three beach volleyball courts. Overlooking the softball fields from atop a hill is a nice shaded playground, picnic pavilions and swings for kids. There are concessions and restrooms. Although the restroom aren't the best at least they are real working bathrooms! The park was well maintained and clean and this Saturday we went, quite busy. There is ample parking nearby and a fitness trail leading from the entrance into the park. Overall a great find and so close to Altamonte and I-4! I've driven around the area many times and never knew this quiet park was tucked away amongst the trees!

This lovely neighborhood park was named in honor of Wilson Phelps, a Chicago businessman who toured…read morethe area in 1874 and purchased land east of Lake Osceola for a citrus business. In addition to growing citrus, Phelps sold lots to fellow Chicagoans and mentored Loring Chase and Oliver Chapman into turning this largely unsettled area into an upscale winter resort. Phelps, acting as a one-man chamber of commerce, provided the basis of the promotional materials used by Chase and Chapman who marketed Winter Park to wealthy northerners. This nearly six acre park, in Winter Park, provides both natural beauty and recreational opportunities. One of the nicest features of this park is the playground that was rebuilt in 2021 by Kompan Design with input from area residents. This playground was designed to improve physical, cognitive, creative, and social development while fostering imaginative play and friendships. Other park amenities include basketball courts, tennis courts, pavilions available for rental, restrooms, picnic tables, and outdoor fitness equipment. There are also two hardcourts for pickleball. This park is fully fenced for safety and is beautifully landscaped and it is close to downtown Winter Park where you can find shopping and dining options. This park is the perfect place for a morning stroll, a birthday party, play, or a picnic. Phelps Park appeals to all ages. Community Parks don't come much nicer than this one.

The playground includes an Eclipse Net Plus which is a climbing net and a fun Rush Slide. Little ones will enjoy the Weevos playsystem for safe climbing, sliding, and bouncing. The SkyWays shade keeps kids cool and protects them from the sun. Other park amenities include a restroom, boardwalk, and Sam's Deck donated by the Tuskawilla Pioneer Gardening Club. There are covered picnic pavilions, tables, and grills for a family fathering or a cookout. There is also a 0.7-mile loop trail that goes to the back of the park and around the lake. The coolest thing about this park for me was that I saw so many red-shouldered hawks. They were everywhere, in the trees and on the ground. In Florida, the red-shouldered hawk is perhaps the most commonly seen and heard raptor species outside of black and turkey vultures. They prey on small rodents and one of them had a squirrel. His mate was screaming at him from the tree to bring it for dinner now! Seeing all of those amazing hawks is a memory I will not soon forget.

There are multiple play areas for children and they have a few nice gazebos and a pavilion, not to mention the deck overlooking a small what appears to be a retention pond. There are plenty of housing developments around this area and I'm sure that they are all very appreciative of this small park. We need these little parks to help define our communities. We need a place to gather in recreation and relaxation. Well this park is by no means large, it is a good place to come and hang out and escape the stress of the modern world for a while. I would definitely recommend here and I give it five stars.
