This park is about 45 minutes from me and yet we've been several times. It's just that good! Theres so many different areas and things to play on. There's a big play area for the older kids and a smaller but plenty big area for the younger kids to play on. My son is only 17 months but loves to climb and I can appreciate that this park was designed for smaller kids in mind and there are less places where he could yeet himself off so as a parent I don't have to watch every single step he makes. read more

This lovely neighborhood park was named in honor of Wilson Phelps, a Chicago businessman who toured the area in 1874 and purchased land east of Lake Osceola for a citrus business. In addition to growing citrus, Phelps sold lots to fellow Chicagoans and mentored Loring Chase and Oliver Chapman into turning this largely unsettled area into an upscale winter resort. Phelps, acting as a one-man chamber of commerce, provided the basis of the promotional materials used by Chase and Chapman who marketed Winter Park to wealthy northerners. This nearly six acre park, in Winter Park, provides both natural beauty and recreational opportunities. One of the nicest features of this park is the playground that was rebuilt in 2021 by Kompan Design with input from area residents. This playground was designed to improve physical, cognitive, creative, and social development while fostering imaginative play and friendships. Other park amenities include basketball courts, tennis courts, pavilions available for rental, restrooms, picnic tables, and outdoor fitness equipment. There are also two hardcourts for pickleball. This park is fully fenced for safety and is beautifully landscaped and it is close to downtown Winter Park where you can find shopping and dining options. This park is the perfect place for a morning stroll, a birthday party, play, or a picnic. Phelps Park appeals to all ages. Community Parks don't come much nicer than this one. read more

Great park with tons of grass areas and things to do for families. Great for birthday parties as well. My only issue is the larger Play area seems a bit too risky as everything is an obstacle . Today 4-5 children fell or were hurt playing on the larger play area. Seeing a child fall from the top of the space was terrifying but thankfully he was ok. read more

Phelps Park is an amazing park. My grandkids and I had so much fun playing around there. The playground equipment is awesome. There is a lot for kids to do and explore. I got on a spinney equipment, and I laughed like I haven't laughed in a while. The park is beautiful and clean. There's clean bathrooms, a water fountain, basketball and tennis courts, soccer field, even a free book box. read more

I've been outside a lot more at parks and playgrounds in 2020, and Phelps Park is another great one on my list! The park is right in the middle of a neighborhood in Winter Park. There aren't very many parking spaces in the lot but I think you may be able to park off the side streets if needed. There is a playground, tennis courts, and basketball court. The coolest thing about this playground is that it has two large wooden playground structures as well as a newer one. There's something about the fun of a wooden playground; the thrill of playing hide and seek inside or maybe it's climbing to the top and pretending you're king or queen of the castle. There are swings, slides, and a huge rock for climbing as well. Amenity wise, there is one set of bathrooms and one water fountain. The covered pavilions were taped off as of September 2020 due to the pandemic but there are benches. There is a bit of shade from trees to help with the heat. Phelps Park is a nice find for its playground in Winter Park! read more

Our son loved Thai park. We were staying in the area and our little guy needed a playground day. He loved climbing and running. The big slides were his favorites! We really like this park. We frequent it often after school and sometimes on the weekend. The park has a basketball court, tennis court, and 3 playgrounds. Also, there are newly built pavilions that you can sit under the shade and watch your kiddos burn all their energy. You can reserve the pavilions if you want to have a party. We've seen 3 parties at one time right after school. It was packed with kids and parents running all over the place. The park can be also have down times, which is really nice and peaceful. Occasionally, the ice cream van will come and all the kids will be lined up to get theirs. The basketball courts are usually being used by kids. The tennis courts often have someone taking lessons. There are many things to do at this park. There's a big field that the kids can run around and play freely, too. The bathrooms are decent. I love how the water fountain now has a filtered water fountain to refill your water bottles. They have recycling bins next to the trash cans, for those that are environmentally aware. read more

A great park for the whole family! There is a small playground for little kids that is easily crawled through, and then a bigger playground for kids who like to climb up rock walls and nets. There's also a series of seats, that twist and turn, plenty of swings. Lovely Park. Has a real "park" feel with various jungle gyms, tennis courts and a basketball court! Stopped here this morning to let my puppy get her energy out so I did not have to feel bad for ignoring her while I worked today =) The moment we pulled up it was immediately welcoming with various joggers, other dog walkers and 2 kids (w/ a coach it appeared) practicing their foul shots ;o) They have various benches, shaded areas and even bathrooms. When my son was first learning to walk/climb, I could take him to the toddler area and didn't have to worry about him being trampled by bigger kids. What a great gem just under 12 min drive from my house. I am surprised it took me few months to vidit this place, but I am coming back every week now since the discovery. It has tennis courts with the single wall that I can swing my racket if my son is busy, it has several wooden playgrounds where kids go wild and have a great time, it has bathrooms which is super important with kids, and you can do birthday parties there as well. We were over by that side of town eating when the baby started going crazy so we immediately had to find a park. We came across this one and it was pretty sweet. It was open and there was plenty room for kids to play as well as most of it being shaded. Great park for little ones and others wanting to run, play basketball or play tennis. The only reason I know about Phelps Park is because it happens to be one of the water/gatorade stops along my running route every Saturday morning....and it's frequented by hundreds of other runners during the wee hours of the morning each and every weekend. However, there is more to this place than the wide open parking lot. Beyond the wire fence, there is a wide open space with lots of room to run around in, a play area for kids and adults alike, tennis courts and benches to sit and rest on. This park is definitely convenient for those who live nearby because it's located in the center of a neighborhood area and far away from any major intersections or roads. There is a good amount of parking available, but again it's within walking distance if you live close. read more

Very good park, love all the playgrounds for the kids and that they have them divided by age group. Lot's of shade and a big grass space in the back if you rather run or play ball. This park is not in my area but I sometimes I make the effort to drive here because of how nice it is. read more

I found Phelps park while searching for free tennis courts in the area. This is a small park in a cute neighborhood with tennis courts, bathrooms, childrens play area, and medium sized field. There is one tennis court that has is enclosed with netting, and two tennis courts that are open. The park is well maintained and I enjoyed playing here. Will definitely be back. read more

We've taken our 9 month old to this park a handful of times now and always have a good visit! There is one baby/toddler swing that is attached to an adult swing so you can swing together, and three regular baby swings on the other side of the playground. It's nicely shaded and has lots of space to walk around all sides of the playground areas. The fact that the playground is sort of divided by age was really nice for us. There are three tennis courts, two of which were being used by private lessons when we were there. read more

Great park/playground tucked off the main road. The large wooden playground and ample tree canopy make this a fun park for kids year round. Tennis courts always seem to have people using them. They have bathrooms which aren't great but are decent. This is also my running groups go-to spot for many of their weekday and Saturday morning runs. You could lose yourself for miles along the brick roads of Winter Park. Phelps parks allows for a good amount of parking and a central location. read more

This is a really nice park for kids that has been around for a long time. I remember coming here as a child myself. Like others have mentioned there is plenty of playground equipment for kids to run around for hours. There is also a small basketball court and grassy field area. Plenty of parking and nice shady trees. This is also a really nice part of Winter Park to walk around and I would recommend parking at the park and taking a stroll west down Elm and around Lake Knowles. There are plenty of sidewalks throughout this route is a really nice peaceful walk. Overall, really nice shady park with plenty of equipment and area to run around. read more

Love this park! My son is only 2 so I am always looking for a good park that is right size for him to play. The park has 3 different playgrounds to accommodate different ages. There is also a big open area right behind the basketball court, so my husband race his remote control car around the open field while nearby my son and I hang out on the playground. There are a couple pavilions for birthdays too. The parking lot is not very big so we try to go at a time that isn't too busy. Definitely one of my favorites and I love that this great park is so close to my location! read more

Great park! Nice playground for kids, three tennis courts, a full size basketball court, and a huge L shape field to play other sports or walk the dog in. The location is perfect for us. Right in the heart of Winter Park and right behind the Winter Park YMCA. We come here all the time to play tennis and every Thursday night I meet a bunch of old friends to play basketball and then ultimate frisbee in the field. Super safe and always full of people. We are not quite within walking distance but it's well worth the short drive to spend some time outdoors in a safe and clean park. read more
