It's such a shame! I have struggled to find a good hairdresser around here, so was really happy to finally find Reids. I had 2 or 3 great haircuts with one of the stylists, Lupsanna - she was really sensitive to my hair type, recommended honest products to try (not necessarily from the salon) and I was always delighted with the result. Sadly, Lupsanna no longer works here, and I have only had traumatising experiences with any of the other hairdressers.
The first was a guy who cut a fringe without asking. A fringe! That's a big style statement. OK, granted, it was partly my fault for not stopping him - I was head-down in my book - but I had clearly requested just a shapely trim as I was trying to grow it and I didn't think I needed to supervise him. Big mistake. It took months to even grow it long enough to put behind my ears, let alone up. On top of that, he finished the cut with about as much finesse as truck driver. My hair is fine and the products he put in were so thick my hair was clumpy and stiff.
BUT, that said, I explained my shock/ disappointment to the manager and he offered me some vouchers to compensate (not a refund, mind). I accepted the gesture and respecfully didn't write a review.
My boyfriend said I was crazy to even consider the place again.... But a few months later, I went back in good faith, this time for highlights. Lupsanna wasn't available, so the top colourist was recommended to me. We talked about my hair and I explained that I wanted an ash blonde, not a golden blonde. After the colour was applied, she kept checking and checking and after an hour and a half, she stuck me under the heat lamp. It was way too hot, I could feel it burning my scalp, and I had to alert the secretary, because the stylist had disappeared. When I couldn't take the lamp anymore, she checked it again and obviously went to mix up another colour to fix whatever she'd done, because she came back and reapplied all the foils (this is after 2 hours already!) bizarrely proclaiming that it was the "definitely the same mix", even though I hadn't asked and didn't care (all I wanted was the right result and to leave before Christmas).
Finally the foils came out and I politely declined a cut, having decided to go back when I could definitely get an appointment with Lupsanna. Truth be told, the colour was good, exactly what I wanted, so I was happy.... for 24 hours. Then my hair began to fall out. I can only imagine that my scalp was so traumatised by the 3 hour chemical onslaught, that the follicles gave up and let go.
Even after all this, I still went back to ask Lupsanna for help (half grown out fringe and wispy thin bleached hair) - and she gave me a good cut and great service.
Last time I called up, however, I discovered that she'd left and with her, so went all my faith in Reids. It's pretty cheap but I'm afraid you couldn't pay me to go back there. read more
