Very beautiful forest like course challenging with lots of obstacles but very fun and feels amazing !

I really enjoy this park. I walk or run the trail weekly at least and while I can't say everything there is always and forever rainbows and unicorns, is McKinley either? No. Unfortunately that element can show up no matter how beautiful the surroundings. It goes without saying always be vigilant for yourself of surroundings. It doesn't make the amenities or the experience undesirable for me, but then again I didn't find the "objects" the other reviewer did. With that said, I haven't found any questionable object on the trail or at the park, I also haven't seen a transient or prevalent trash on the trail; maybe a napkin or two over time. The park itself is cute. There is also a baseball diamond and larger soccer field there too. Kids are usually at the playground from the surrounding areas. The tennis courts usually have at least one available too which is convenient. Paramedic fire station is right next door too, I figure it helps odds if ever an emergency.

Okay, not much has changed from my last review as far as atmosphere. The drug dealers and homeless still linger at this park which is soooo unfortunate! I did give two more stars on this update because the newly built playground is significantly better than the last. Completely new play structure with a fire fighter theme. There are many components to the new playground, all with different function and purpose. Also there is a dual swing (see pic) that I found interesting and made me L.O.L. Though at the same time I thought it was an awesome addition to the swing sets. Although this park as a whole isn't my favorite for safety reasons, Reichmuth does has everything the surrounding neighborhood needs. From a skate park to baseball and open fields, the new playground just adds more value.

Taking a stroll with our dog around our new neighborhood, I happened to run into new friends and neighbors. I asked if there was a creek nearby and was directed to the Reichmuth Park Nature Area. Despite the official Reichmuth Park address, which will lead you to the conventional grassy area of the park, the best way to access the Nature Area is from Silver Lake Drive off of South Land Park Drive. As I walked into the canopy by Sump Station 65 on Silver Lake Drive, my trepidation turned to delight as I discovered a wild wetland forest right in the middle of our urban neighborhood! There is a beautiful trail which meanders and eventually leads to the grassy areas of Reichmuth Park. Along the way, we spotted wild blackberries, grapevines, cat tails, and even a fig tree nestled among the native oaks. We heard crickets, frogs and saw a shallow pool full of tadpoles. Even though we didn't see any, there are reportedly bunnies. And birds. Lots of birds. Apparently, per the Sacramento Audobon Society Reichmuth Park is home to many uncommon birds. One hundred years ago, Reichmuth Park used to be an area called Munger Lake. It was later renamed Reichmuth Park after it was owned by Joseph and Amelia Reichmuth, who also operated a 358-acre dairy. If you want to melt away the stress of urban living, I suggest a walk with your dog here. For safety reasons, I suggest you don't go alone. My kids really loved the "secret" nature walk. Except for the wet shoe in the boggy water incident, but the shoe was washed and no harm done. This morning, my six year old son stated that he's pretty sure Master Yoda lives there but only comes out at night when it's foggy. Only the birds and the bunnies may know for sure.

Many years later, I bring my children here and now a few generations later my grandchildren enjoy this park. My dad volunteered at the library at the park for many years and we ended up holding his celebration of life here (both in the rose garden and inside library). I have years of memories of hanging out here using the swimming pool, climbing trees, playing tennis & I used to run around the park when I lived nearby. We had roses planted in the Rose garden for my grandmother, my aunt and a child who died at birth. However, when they were redoing the rose garden, we had to take the plaques with us and now I have my aunts and grandma's plaque in my backyard with the same rose from the original rose garden. Shortly before my mother passed, we brought her to this park in her wheelchair and sat under a tree, enjoying a picnic with three generations of us. Needless to say this park holds numerous cherished memories.

Interestingly, the Sacramento Street Railway Company built the park in 1871 to attract people to take its trains. Then the park became a recreational area around the train line and continued to serve as a gathering spot for the residents in this neighborhood and the greater Sacramento community. Recently, we visited again to hang out with friends who wanted to meet up and have our kids play together and get out their wiggles while we chat and catch up. After the kids played for some time at the (new to us) playground, we walked over to enjoy the pond and to take a walk over to the Rose Garden. There's a path that surrounds the pond so you can get exercise with a view. We saw a lot of ducks and geese that day. Please don't feed them. They were friendly and very used to humans. After hanging out w/said friends of the fowl flavor for a few minutes, we walked towards the Rose Garden to enjoy the beauty of the roses and to people watch as they get their pictures taken and to hang out some more. Overall, I enjoyed visiting McKinley Park again, I really should come down here more often as it's a pretty great park, so big it takes up a whole city block and there's just so much nicely landscaped grounds, plant life, wildlife. It also offers a bunch of facilities to include a community pool, basketball court, a community center, picnic areas w/tables, several sports fields, plus tennis and volleyball courts. A lot offered here in one location!

However, I was having lunch in the area last week and realized I have never reviewed it. The highlight of the park for me is the beautiful World Peace Rose Garden, which is especially stunning right now because all of the roses are in bloom. The gardens' central fountain creates a peaceful atmosphere and makes this a wonderful place to relax and walk around or sit and just enjoy the scenery. I almost always have my dog with me and she loves watching all the squirrels in the park and there are so many settings that make for a great photo ops of her. There are also lots of great manicured paths for me to walk with her. Another thing that I love about this park is the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. As the mother of a veteran, I am always very moved by this tribute to those who have served. The statues are incredibly well done and it's a beautiful space for some quiet reflection. Parking can sometimes be hard and expensive, but it's a lovely park where I am rarely bothered, no matter how busy it can get at times. I definitely recommend stopping by if you haven't already and I will continue to return to this park again and again whenever I'm downtown.

We even came on a windy day, and it was still a wonderful place to be. It is so spacious that it's the perfect spot to fly kites. A few of us were flying kites together, and it was such a relaxing, heartwarming experience. It's incredibly family and dog friendly, super roomy, and has so much going on. Because it's so clean and well maintained, this might just become the park I bring my kids to most often, and it is definitely a top choice for hosting future family events! It is perfect for a workout, sports activities, or just letting the kids play. I love the layout, especially how they designed the two separate grass areas where one sits at a lower elevation, while the other is level with the rest of the park. But honestly, what really blew me away was the restroom. I know that sounds like an exaggeration, but I'm serious! So many park restrooms are cold, dark, dirty, and lacking privacy. This one felt downright luxurious. It is completely temperature controlled, which was especially nice since it was breezy outside! It was warm, well lit, exceptionally clean, and had absolutely no odor. It even sounded like it had a great ventilation system running. The only minor downside was the lack of toilet seat covers, but that's an easy fix. The entire park feels pretty new with a beautiful, modern design, conveniently located right behind the Sky River Casino. Highly recommend checking it out! Rate: 10/10
