We saw these great board shorts that were sold out except they had my size in the return rack so I wanted to buy them. I bought another pair of shorts as well. Get to the counter. The lady ( Jessica ) asked me if I have a membership of which I do not have. Apparently you need a membership to buy their returns.. and membership cost another $30. I told her I said this is ridiculous. I have to be a member and it cost money to do it. What is this? Hermes? ( more like Costco for Campers without good prices ) So I told her I'm not to pay $30 extra for something that was on your return rack. She had the audacity to say I was purchasing something the equivalent of a yard sale item since it had been a return! LOL Whoa. She did go check and see if they had any more but obviously they were sold out so I would never shop here again. It's beyond ridiculous. Plus I didn't even get a bag for my purchase. Stopped in looking for dog day packs as well as a new weekend pack for my wife. Dog day packs they had some, not a lot, tho this particular item is more a specialty item that isn't in high demand. Understandable they didn't have a lot. The backpack for my wife, they had a plenty. I've not had a new pack since my days in the Corps, and they've changed a lot. They carry a lot of packs made specifically for women. Straps are different and hip strap sits higher. The gentleman that helped us was so patient with explaining all of this and helping us find one. They carry a brand called Osprey, which is a bit more expensive but well worth the cost. The suspension system on it is what ups the cost, and it makes the pack way more comfortable. REI has a membership available that allows members some special benefits. One benefit is free shipping from their REI Outlet which has a LOT of clearance items for super cheap. Wife's looking at walking sticks on the outlet website an they had some $115 sticks for $40! Yep, I'm in. Funny thing is, we didn't realize we even had this membership until we asked the lady at the counter, who was extremely helpful and joyful. This is a specially place for most things outdoors, some items change with the seasons. The staff here was awesome! read more

The only thing knowledgeable about the employees here, their ability to hassle you about a membership. It took going to an REI in Colorado to figure out the pack the "knowledgeable" staff member sold me, was a size too small, causing quite a bit of back pain. Once you show up, not only will you not be greeted, but treated as an inconvenience to their seasonal staff. I say make the trip to Dallas and avoid this REI like the plague. It's mostly set up to serve foot traffic in the shopping center. Good luck finding actual outdoor gear, let alone an employee who's actually knowledgeable. read more

I took my road bike to REI bike shop, Jakob, Jon and the rest of team, took it like a personal challenge to get my bike in perfect condition. They troubleshoot the ghost shift issue until the found the culprit. They use the original parts, not an off brand part they have laying around. I understand that was not an easy task. Great place for outdoor recreational gear, if you're not already familiar! This and the Southlake location are the closest ones to me in Arlington. This Fort Worth location conveniently has a Whole Foods along with a bunch of restaurants and other shops in the same small shopping center. The several times I've shopped at this location, the employees have been friendly and helpful. read more

A great store for all of your outdoor recreational needs and the customer service is outstanding. I have been to this location several times and each time the store is spotless, organized and some of the best trained employees of any retail outlet. Also the bicycles experts make this REI the place to go. They are extremely helpful and they really know their products well. Any adjustments for the bike to fit you perfectly are done on site. As well as the latest and best technology in bike helmets are available. The store is huge and you can get lost, but even if your not out to buy something it's cool just to check out the store. read more

Whats not to love about REI!? First of all before you buy ANYTHING join the co-op and get 10% back on all purchases at the end of the year! I shop at rei all the time and was so happy when a Fort Worth Location opened! Last week I decided to take the plunge and INVEST in a really good pair of hiking boots. So I nervously went to REI alone to pick out a pair. Now I should mention I am a plus size woman and have had an issue in the past with customer service....I guess I dont look like an outdoorsey person! This time however I had an AMAZING sales associate really take the time to show me the different styles, talked to me about what/where I was planning to hike. She helped me try on 3 pair to compare fit/feel. Then once I had chosen a pair she really took the time to ensure I had a proper fit, b/c a bad pair if boots will ruin any outdoor activity especially hiking! She also gave me some great tips on lacing my boots and picking the right socks! Buying $190 pair of boots isnt quite as painful knowing I will get 10% back to spend in store at the end of the year! read more

I went in to get new shoes. I work on my feet all day and couldn't find a shoe that fit all my needs. Abbie in the store was absolutely amazing. I asked to try on several different brands and then asked for a recommendation from Abbie. Seeing as she is on her feet all day also. Needless to say I purchased the shoes Abbie recommended. They had everything I needed in a shoe. They didn't have the colors I wanted in store but Bailey at the register made ordering them a breeze. Will definitely be buying all my shoes from this REI from now on. read more

Although I did end up purchasing a pair of hiking pants for $50, I found the customer service to be way lacking. I was in the store for around 20 minutes (looking around, trying things on) and no one said "welcome in", "hello" or "can I help you?". Upon checkout, you can bet I was given the REI co-op membership hard sell. No thanks. And frankly, what's even the point of frequenting a brick and mortar if there's no around to make you feel welcome as a customer and potential "co-op member"? Disappointing as this was my first (and last) time inside the Fort Worth REI store. I will go back to ordering my North Face online from Zappos where the VIP program doesn't require an annual $20 fee. read more

This place looks awesome! It's built on top of part of the old GDRA/LRA grounds so such an ideal spot for them to go. It's right off the river and walking trails and not far from TCU campus. The opening day bash is right now as I'm standing here in line. They are giving promo gift cards of $10, $50, and $100 for first 200 which is obviously encouraging an already great place. They have vendors out front with tacos, sandwiches, and drinks. I'm told there were people camping out all night to wait for doors to open both today and yesterday. Great products. It's a coop so you do get dividend on products you purchase if your a member. Check it out if you are an outdoor type and need high quality gear. read more

I went to REI recently. We needed a luggage rack (in a hurry). Let me just say they were fantastic! Jon from the bike shop helped us out. He was great! Very polite and professional. He was a normal everyday guy (no eccentricities or fake personality, a huge plus). He was helpful and answered all questions about the product with skill and proficiency. With one minor exception I have been very pleased with every visit to REI. I live very close and I enjoy the proximity of the store for sure. I haven't written a review as of yet, however, the buying experience I had on Saturday was outstanding and I felt Jon and his co-worker (can't remember the other gentlemen's name) deserved an outstanding review! REI member and fan, but would not recommend this locations bike servicing shop. Brought my Look road bike in for a basic tune up, bar wrap, cable replacement, and new chain. Upon my first ride, found the gear changing completely out of synch, returned immediately to store, where I was told that they had given the project to a new employee who wasn't familiar with campagnolo parts, so that's why it wasn't adjusted (not very reassuring). Left it with the tech to adjust, and when he was done, informed me that my shifter was worn out, and would eventually need replacing, and couldn't be rebuilt (absolutely not true with chorus shifters, rebuild kits are available), and this was why my bike was shifting worse than when I brought it in. The cleaning of the drive train was abysmal, if it was done at all, the bar wrap began to unravel in just a matter of weeks. Eventually took my bike to another shop, where they quickly adjusted the gear shifting to spot on, and said the stickiness in my shifting would go away if I replaced the cable, which was very worn (remember this was something I paid to have done at REI). I'm a devoted member, but I will use the store for camping, not using my bike to train new wrenches. read more

Some of the greatest customer service I've had in a long time. I went in looking for a pack for a back country trip coming up and the two ladies manning the backpack area were absolutely awesome today (May 19th, 2018)! They helped me find the perfect pack and the perfect fit for what I needed. Even though the store was super busy with their anniversary sale going on right now, they both still took the time to make sure I was taken care of. Awesome job y'all! The store was of course clean (as always) and so well taken care of. All the employees really know their stuff and are willing to take the time to help you out. We'll be coming back again and again for all our camping/outdoor needs, that's for sure. Completely worth the 2 hour drive we have to make. Also, the membership is totally worth it and got to love that 20% off an item! read more
