Please do not buy anything online from this company. I made a purchase on September 26th. One month later I still do not have the backpack I purchased. I sent an email and a Facebook message with no response. I called on October 12th and spoke to someone who said the person responsible for shipping was going to take care of it, then on the 20th I was told the person handling shipping orders is away for a week and they do not have the product in store so they would ship it directly from the manufacturer. I've called today October 25th and can't get a hold of anyone. I will continue calling but do yourself a favor and save a headache. Do not purchase from them. read more

We LOVE Backwoods, and we stop in EVERY TIME we are on W 7th street in Fort Worth. Today we were in FW for International Geocaching Fay, and I needed a new travel bug bag. Staff at Backwoods greeted us immediately and directed us to the two places in the store where we could find the kind of smallerish bag we needed. Unfortunately, they did not have bags that were small enough and heavy duty enough for our purpose -- geocaching is hard on gear! We were about to leave empty-handed when one of the staff overheard us talking about how we would have to look elsewhere. He asked us if we wanted to take a look at their customer birthday gift, which happened to be the PERFECT size and attachable to packs or belts with a carabiner! It's JUST what we needed, and it was FREE, since Hubby's birthday us next week!! Is that outstanding customer service, or what?? We are customers for LIFE!! Had already made up my mind which rod I wanted and they had it. I walked in looking around at flies and the rod. The guy there never offered any help, I found it weird but whatever. He went to help another customer that's fine. Then a man walks in and the service guy says to the customer he's helping, hold on let me check on this guy, and walks over to the new guy looking at me. Now I'm wondering what's up I've been here 10 minutes haven't even been acknowledged but people walking in after me are getting helped immediately. Then I realized they all had masks and I didn't. This guy wouldn't help me because of his belief that I may be contaminated. Cost yourself at least a $400 sell on that one. There's too many other places to buy stuff I won't go back. read more

Stopped in here for the first time today. They didn't have the hiking boots I was looking for, but I was pretty impressed with this place. It's similar to REI and has a nice selection of outdoor brand name apparel. They have an upstairs area, which also holds their clearance items. I ended up buying a couple things from there. What I really liked about this place was the service. We were greeted by one guy when we entered, and another guy helped us in the shoe department. They were both very friendly, easy-going, and not pushy at all. The girl who rang up my sale was also very nice. I'll be sure to stop in whenever I'm in the area now. read more

Stopped by this place one night before i went into the pour house(next to it). Found the staff to be friendly and wanted to help me with any questions i had, but they weren't pushy. Nothing special or an over abundance of items as far as selection goes. I did find the shoe selection horrible though! If for some strange reason your into fly fishing they have the items to make your own flys which is really great, but when it came to other items such as poles reels ect it was well below par. Looks like they were holding a seminar while i was there on picking the right sleeping bag(very useful). This store is just alright, if your in the area and don't want to drive to an REI or other outdoor this place you will find the products you're looking for, just don't expect a great selection of items to choose from. Sidenote: upstars to the right on the tables is items from the other stores they are trying to get rid of, so you can find some good deals on things. read more

I had a return trip to Backwoods to get some Eagle Creek pack-it gear the day before my trip to Ireland. I was pleased this time to find the staff very friendly. The upstairs was staffed with a very knowlegable older gentlemen who indulged my numerous questions about packing systems and what was best. He invited me to the in-store packing seminar, which, unfortunately, I could not attend. Also, the clerk at the register was very friendly. Things appear to have changed for the better at Backwoods... or I was just there on an "off" day. I will be returning in the future for my travel needs. I loved the modular packing system, would recommend it to anyone, and intend to buy more of it! read more

I come in here often with my boyfriend and while I never buy anything, he usually always leaves with something he just couldn't live without. This is a great little store and the next best thing to REI considering we don't have one in Ft. Worth. I usually always take a seat in their awesome leather chairs in the back of the store (great for those girlfriends who are drug along aka me). I can't really say I do a ton of outdoor activities that warrant me shopping here. I mostly come here to prep for music festivals or camping. Occasionally I'll get shoes here since they have a great flip flop selection in the summer. The staff is very helpful. I had been using Camelbak hydration packs for years and went in to buy a new one- the guy on the floor introduced me to the Osprey brand. I love it! Much better than Camelbak, good frames, easy to clean, and holds a lot more than my Camelbak ever did. Make sure when you pay that you sign up for the birthday list. They send you sweet coupons once a year! read more

I've been to the store several times but have never purchased anything from there because the selection is limited and the prices are higher than anywhere else I've seen. And it's not like the quality is superior... I once received a pair of Merrell shoes as a gift from Backwoods and they came apart after roughly 30 miles of trail hiking in them. I was recently given a gift card to Backwoods so I thought I'd use it to buy something online. Their web store also sells gift cards, and it clearly says that gift cards can be used online. At checkout time, though, no option to pay with a gift card is available. Consider Cabela's or Lands' End instead. You'll probably save a lot of $$$. read more

This was an awesome shoe shopping trip! Two employees helped us during this shopping trip. I was buying some Chacos and they were very helpful, as they told me what will be the best style/fit/comfort. A friend of mine was there and told them that her Chacos were getting too tight and they were able to fix them up and tell us how to keep them that way. They also told me how to get certain parts of the Chaco fixed without having to buy a whole new pair- ReChaco! The staff is excellent! I definitely recommend shopping here, for any outdoor activity supplies. read more
