We decided on Jamaican and Reggaex2 Vibes seemed like a good option since it's near our house. The beef short ribs platter is reasonably priced for the portion size. The two chosen sides were mach and cheese and collard greens. The short ribs were incredibly tender and had a nice flavor. They were a little salty for my taste, but not by much. The greens and macaroni and cheese were good sides. The star of the order was the candied yams. OMG!!! Those get 10 stars! I also ordered garlic string beans and jerk chicken. This place has been on my to-try list for a while. As I was walking down the street, I stopped to look at the menu. I didn't realize I'd stopped in front of the ordering window. When a man opened the door, I took that as my sign that I needed to try it TODAY. I ordered a curry chicken platter with kale and collards and with rice and peas. The greens were my favorite; I ate them all right away. They used smoked turkey instead of pork to flavor them, which I prefer. I had enough chicken and rice/peas left for a second meal. The Oxtail cheesesteak is so good, if I was going to curse in joy about how good something is, it would be on here. You get a lot of meat and no bones on the cheesesteak, its so delicious. Now the price on their menu is $18, but be careful cause on Uber Eats it's charging $24. On their Online ordering website its $20. Just call and go pick it up for the least expensive way. And if you don't eat beef, their fall off the bone chicken cheesesteak is so good too. It's $13 on their menu, $15 on Uber Eats, and $13 on their Online Ordering. So it's a really good less expensive alternative if you want chicken rather than beef. But the more I order from them, the more it seems to be not as great as the first 3 others. They always miss my order notes or some of the items. One time, I ordered jerk chicken with mac n cheese, sweet plantains, beef patty, and potato salad. They never send my potato salad or the beef patty. I recently got Uber eats from this restaurant. I ordered jerk chicken, sweet potatoes, mac & cheese. I also ordered the vegetarian platter which had rice and peas, cabbage and plantains. The food was just OK. I like the jerk chicken and there was plenty of it in the platter. The mac & cheese was OK, but they didn't quite have a lot of flavor. The other sides, the plantains, cabbage, rice and peas were all a little lackluster, but they weren't bad. for some reason, I could not get past the flavor of the sweet potatoes. I'm sure that it was something they seasoned the sweet potatoes with, and I could not figure out what the flavor was. It reminded me of an after taste of dish soap. Initially, I thought it was something that was just on a bit of the food, but it went through the entire serving of sweet potatoes. And later, while eating the jerk chicken, I taste the flavor again. a pretty significant update- i think when I first reviewed, it was delivery and I was more unimpressed with the food via delivery apps. I've learned my lesson and started walking to pickup since this place is within a few blocks of a friends house. Delicious! While ordering over the phone in the evening can sometimes involve a medium length hood (since they cater to other delivery services first) it is well worth it! The short ribs on friday and saturday are my favorite, but in a close second, the curried goat always knocks my socks off in tenderness and quantity. Jerk chicken is always awesome too, even walking to the corner you get hyped by the smells emanating from the kitchen down the block. Cabbage, string beans and callalo are great sides. Ordered delivery last night for dinner - Uber Eats had a promo so I took advantage to try something new. I was skeptical b/c of the horrific Jamaican food Philly is usually out here serving me. But baybeee!! This was delicious!! They are trying To right everything wrong the other trash Jamaican restaurants are committing. LOL! It arrived hot, fresh, & ahead of schedule. We're having leftovers for dinner, and I might have to go over there to get more patties. (Also note the portions are so big, we have leftovers!) Because I can only judge Jamaican food by the very traditional staple standards, I ordered curry chicken and jerk chicken. I cannot spend $25 on oxtails when I don't know what you're doing over there. I've had to throw expensive $&& oxtail platters in the trash because I got "got" in the past with fraudulent Jamaican food. Reggae Reggae Vibes is my favorite Jamaican spot in Philly. I've been here countless times and typically order the weekend sampler, fried whiting, jerk chicken, mac, and candied yams. The only time I've ever had a "bad" experience here was when I tried a jerk cheesesteak, and the meat was full of fat. I however tried it again, and it was great. I recently used reggae reggae for catering at a birthday party. They're transparent with their catering prices on their website, and the process of ordering, paying, and picking up was seamless. The go to item for me is the jerk chicken cheesesteak. It's always good and is a perfect combo of cheesy, sweet and spicy. Ask for some jerk sauce on the side for extra kick. Not pictured is the jerk chicken. The flavor was on point and I love the bites where you get char and the spice. I would definitely recommend trying it. Their side items I wasn't too impressed with. The kitchen seems reasonably clean for a take out place. They have a small seating area. You place your order, grab your seat and eat. Chilled Caribbean music playing in the background. The place does get very busy during the peak hours. Also, it is BYOB..yeah... Now for the food. The food is delicious. The seasoning adds flavor to the food. However, it was definitely lacking in seasoning and spice. Spiced it up with some of my own BBQ sauce, but not great when I have to use my own. Stopped by today and ordered the oxtail with rice and peas and fried plantain. Had to wait about 30 minutes but I think it's because it was being freshly made, however the oxtail was nothing more than fat with very little meat and was too salty. The plantain was cooked too hard and the rice and peas were a bit dry. Price for the platter was 21.50......they could have provided more meat but instead chose to load you up on rice and peas in the hope you'd be full and not notice the lack of meat. I've been on a take-out kick of trying new-to-me restaurants and I'm glad I took a chance on Reggae Reggae Vibes. Jamaican food is known to be very spicy, but I found their food to be on the milder side. Still great smoke-y, grilled flavor! Also you get a lot of food for what it's worth. I would say get this side to cut down on the heaviness of the chicken. -Fried Plantain: Very sweet. Sweeter than I expected plantains to be. If the slices weren't so large, I would have mistook these for fried banana. -Jamaican Patties (Beef): I loved this so much! A little more dough than beef filling, but a steal at only $3. The outside is crispy, dough is thick so not sogginess. Just a little oily, but the filling is well seasoned. -Tropical Punch: Very interesting mix of guava and pineapple? Refreshing and a great way to wash down all this food. Orders come in a standard 16oz size. +PRICE: Well worth the price in my opinion. A lot more food than I was anticipating. Once I found this place about 2 years ago and now its my favorite Jamaican restaurant in Philly. Today, I called ahead for an order of snapper and not until I arrived did I find out it was sold out. Thankfully the staff was accommodating and allowed me to get something else to make up for it. I never had their curry shrimp before so although I didn't have the snapper, I will say the curry shrimp and jerk chicken was delicious.
