I'm going to tell you the things I wish they had told me before I moved into Regency Park. Let me start off with what's great...
Pros:
- The location is prime. You're a short walk from UH Manoa, Chaminade, Times, City Mill, and a plethora of restaurants.
- The staff. The security guards and resident manager are some of the most friendly people I have ever met.
- The safety. The apartments are protected by cameras, a tall fence, a door that only opens with a key fob, and 24/7 security guards.
- The pool and the rec room are both quality. Reserving the rec room with the gas grill is easy.
- The parking. There are two stalls for every apartment and plenty of guest stalls.
-The view. I can see Diamond Head and a sliver of ocean from my apartment.
Cons:
- The noise. This is a huge negative. My apartment faces campus on one side and the street on the other. I get the vulgar students during the day and the loud fans at the basketball games in the evening. I also get the noise from street traffic. Noise alone would keep me from moving into this particular apartment again. It might be better on the other side of the building.
- The gym. The gym is outdated and lacks a lot of equipment that you might want. The biggest thing it lacks is dumbbells and a cooling system.
- The apartment itself. I was told moving in that everything was up to par. I feel lied to because there have been so many things that needed repair over the last year. Leaky windows, a frozen fridge, a squeaky toilet, poor draining in the shower, and draining when you fill the bathtub are all problems that came with the apartment from day one. The landlord fixed a few of them but not most of them. This only reflects poorly on the building because they didn't hold our landlord to high enough standards. Overall the apartment appears nice but is very outdated and in need of repair.
- The price. Because of the outdatedness I would say the rent here is a little high. If the apartment was up to par I'd say the rent isn't too bad.
Final verdict:
I would love to live here if I was in an updated apartment and not facing campus/the street. There are a lot of little things that would make living here year round annoying. That said, the community and safety are hard to beat. When you're in the center of the apartment complex, it's easy to forget that you're in the city.
I give Regency Park a 4/5 as a whole but the apartment I have been staying in a 2/5. Since the apartment is a reflection of the Park, I give it a 3/5 overall. read more
