Performers were all talented and entertaining, but you won't get a fire-knife guy or an emcee who's cracking jokes. If you're looking for a minstrel show for tourists, this ain't it. The 4 course-menu was tastefully prepared and presented. Our server explained each of the dishes and I got the sense that everything was locally sourced within a few mile radius. The service was outstanding. Before dinner, you'll get the typical roast pig unearthing. And there were a few other stations that were interesting - Hawaiian bowling, hula demonstration, live band, etc. And of course, you're right on the waterfront so you can watch the sun set and have a beautiful view while you sip the aforementioned unlimited mai tai's. This luau has been going strong for 40 years, and I am so glad they survived the Lahaina fires. I felt good about supporting a Lahaina community that takes pride in their heritage and history.

I also feel like they were taking advantage of people with the additional fees for using their own app that you had to use unless you wanted to stand in the mile long lines for cash. The food booths were decent with a lot of new foods but I feel like we were missing some of the old traditional favorites. Or maybe I'm just getting old ! I did enjoy seeing people that I haven't seen in a long time some family and friends. I feel like a lot of the ride options were for the younger crowd. It just seemed like there was not as much for the teenagers and younger adults. I am at the age where I was there more for the food and the social interaction. It would have been nice if they had found a way to include all of the fair in to the one area instead of having some exhibits at the mall. Like they went as cheap as they could on the mix. The Mahi mahi fish plate was pretty good just small portions, the poke was really good, the gyro was good very skimpy meat portions. But in the end i knew it was going to good causes so overall a good deal and i got to spend time with my family. The one that I really enjoyed was the kulolo Sunday with the Lilikoi butter. Over all the event felt rushed. But it has not happened in five years so that is understandable.

Basically it's a community block party that features great music, great food, great vendors, and tons of fun! They close down a two-block stretch of street, turn on the festive lights, and start the music! There are many food choices available; food trucks, fundraiser food booths featuring filipino, Chinese, Greek, Mexican, etc., so you won't go hungry. You'll be jiving down the street to the lively music...and you won't be the only ones! You'll find street vendors selling their wares, but do yourself a favor and step into many of the brick-and-mortar storefronts and support their businesses as well. I stopped into Ceci Chennault Studio featuring Aloha Maui Creations and purchased the cutest "Maui" pillow! Each succeeding Friday a different town hosts the party. Lahaina hosts "Second Friday", Makawao hosts "Third Friday", and Kihei hosts "Fourth Friday". We went to the Lahaina event but it wasn't even close to being as much fun as Wailuku's. Step away from the tourist traps and visit this cool local happening!

This year I finally made it to the Made In Maui County Festival. I went with my cousin and we had…read moreso much fun. We already had our eyes on certain vendors so we could not wait. LOCATION: Located at the MACC. We wanted to get there super early on Saturday to park there but we didn't so we parked at War Memorial Stadium and caught one of the free shuttles. We were prepared to buy tickets at the box office but we didn't have to because a nice lady on the shuttle gave us a bunch of free tickets. That was so nice of her. After shopping we were going to eat food from the Food Trucks there but because it was super hot that day, we decided to go somewhere else for lunch. Maybe next year. HIGHLIGHTS: Maui Mules with Pau Vodka, sampling various local treats, Na Koa Brand/Ho'omana Poly Apparel, Moloka'i Bread, Rosebuds , HI Spice Hot Sauce, Maui Olive Company, Bella Vita Apothecary, Maui Lavender & Tea, Upcountry Maui Favorites and Skelefin Studios (Amanda Joy Bowers). There were so many great vendors TIPS: Bring a fan and a big bag/bags for your purchases. Wear a hat too and bring a beverage like we did. OVERALL: So much fun. Got a lot of Christmas shopping done as well as shopping for myself of course. I plan on going every year from now on. Check it out!

Not one to turn down the chance to try something new, we headed to Makawao town to check out their town party. The main event happens on Baldwin Avenue where they close off a portion of the street from Komoda Bakery down the whole block. I was delighted to see a bunch of people line dancing, totally reminding me of my years living in Colorado. Where my country music loving people at?! Those were the days. Anywho, I was on a mission to find something to eat, so we didn't really peruse any of the stores, craft, art, clothing vendors etc., but they're there for those that are interested. Food. I just wanted food and that they had, but nothing that really tickled my fancy. If anything, I would've wanted to try Pele's Pizza, but my husband can't eat pizza anymore so I wasn't about to torture him, lol. I think another Friday town party features much much better food and A LOT more choices, but overall it's a-ok. I tried a food truck that I haven't tried previously and we were able to find some seats at the little table area they have set-up rather quickly. On a side note, I saw people walking around with beers so they must sell alcohol somewhere? Not sure where though. I also saw people with ice cream cones and have no clue where they got those either! One thing that did stand out to me at this town party though, which would make it worthy of a return visit, was the entertainment. They had fire dancers in the streets, line dancing, & live bands. Didn't get the name of the band we saw, but they were really good! Parking is a bit harder to find here compared to other town parties, but if you're lucky, you can find a spot in the public parking lot just down the block. Otherwise, I saw some places charging $5 for event parking.

I've driven down this road many times but never walked on it and never at night. The atmosphere is very charming. I love the architecture of the buildings and how they light up at night with their quaintness. It reminds me of Main Street USA in Disneyland. FOOD: Not the greatest in terms of quantity. There were 2 food trucks - Kinaole Grill, and Iron Imu BBQ, and a few booths like Badua's crepes, Wow Wow Waffles, Monsoon (Indian), and Al's BBQ Pit. The majority of the vendors can be found at the other Friday events. I was full off of our food from Polli's so I didn't purchase anything on the street. VENDORS: There were a few people selling jewelry and trinkets and majority of the shops were open. ENTERTAINMENT: The band changes monthly - one main stage in middle of the event. BEER GARDEN: Non-existent unfortunately. There is a nice and protected gravel lot that'd be perfect for one! OVERALL: I haven't been to Second Friday Lahaina yet but Third Friday Makawao is definitely in third place behind First Friday Wailuku and Fourth Friday Kihei (confused yet?) in terms of the fun-factor. This place has so much potential and has too many empty spaces. Add a beer garden and more food booths and we'll be long-time friends!

Entry is free, entertainment is awesome and the atmosphere is very relaxing and laid-back. There are several entertainers who devote their time to putting on this remarkable show, and each perform for about 15-20 minutes each. Bring your beach chairs, towels or blankets and plop down anywhere on the grass. There's a small amount of bleacher seating, and a covered section with seats but that's reserved for elderly guests. There's beer and wine for sale (credit cards accepted) as well as a few food vendors though not enough to my liking. The food choices could be way better, but who ever is there does a great job. Not sure why more vendors don't turn out.

It was not well kept or well clean for the fees that they charged to stay here. The shower curtain liner was stained or molded and the hooks to hold it were broken or too small for the rod that was holding it. There is very little amenity. They only provided one trash bag and the trash can was dirty. The sofa bed has no sheet for use. The deck was not swept. The laundry washer has sand in it. The swimming pool has so many leaves that no one cleans. The resort is in the prime location, but the upkeep of the resort is lacking and the fees that were charged were high for what was provided as amenity.

We feel we are fairly good judges of what people are seeking so we would like to share our experiences with the Kamale Beach Club. Our visit was from 4 20 24 to 4/27|24. Weather was low 80's in the days and mid to high 60' in the evening with little to no rain... (perfect)! Ok so what are we looking for when going to the islands? First of all location location... Right? Well I have to say KBC (Kamaole Beach Club) fits this request perfectly! From our lanai I could throw a rock to the ocean... really! You are basically a few 100 feet to the water. So yes ocean view is real! Everything conveniently located. Ok now for the grounds and the condition of the buildings. The KBC scores a 5 star rating here also. The grounds are impeccable! In fact one morning I saw tourist taking pictures of the flowers on the property... Yes it is that nice! The buildings are older say late 60's but are well painted and NO bugs!! Now this was impressive! Except for a few Geckos running around no bugs... not even a fly or mosquito. Ok now we drive up to the office which is in the parking lot of the property. The office is extremely small with only a sliding door as an entry. You would think the office personal would be grumpy working in such a small cramped space but, what we found was exactly the opposite. Suzie and Patti were amazingly friendly and helpful to all our questions and needs. In fact we were in need of a small ice chest to take with us to drive the road to Hana and Suzie loaned us her own personal one. Now who does that? Amazing service! Ok now for my next request... Parking!! The parking is FREE!! And we parked maybe 20 steps from our front door. Now I don't know about you but my wife uses every bit of the 50lbs limit the airlines gives you and of course she makes sure my suitcase has to equal hers... so that short walk sure was nice. We were on the first floor so you guys on the upper floors be aware there are no elevators. The locks/keys are the old paddle type but they give you a lock box on your door incase you lose your key or lock yourself out. This was a nice idea. The rooms are spacious as most of the older building are of that era, but be aware there is no central AC. At least in our room. You do have two AC portable units. One in the bedroom and one in the living room. Honestly we did not use them for we were gone most of the days. When we were in we just left the front door open (there is a heavy duty screen door) and the back patio door open. The way the buildings are situated the ocean breeze sweeps through the rooms keeping things nice and comfy. There are also quiet decorative ceiling fans in each one of those rooms to move the air. Speaking about quiet we did not hear other guest. You know the ones slamming the doors at 2am of kids running ramped past your door. This place was amazingly quiet. The water pressure (another pet peeve coming from CA) was plentiful with lots of pressure and you have your own hot water tank! The furnishing along with dishes and cookware were aged but serviceable and, a full size new refrigerator/ ice maker made it nice to stock it up for the week. Now I did read other reviews and people if you are going to give this wonderful beach front (cottage) the white glove test it is most likely going to fail by your standards. Leave those gloves at home! This is Maui! Embrace the area, the food, the ocean, and most importantly the people and, have a great time! We totally loved it here and are anxious to return in the near future!
